pretty nice investment. if you build it nice enough its years of legal free internet for maybe $100, less or free if you got most of the supplies.

plus u can take it with you around town if u get an external antenna card for your laptop or take the keyboard off and patch it into your internal nic. drive around and find all the unsecured routers with default login and mac filter a whole neighborhood as nonsesne mac addresses then change the router login password to pantsontheground as a maximum troll maneuver.

well you can do that without a long range antenna too...

I dont think he wants to spend his time war driving with a 32"inch 28dbi antenna or so. I think he just wants to play daoc and do more post on bow damage or the lack of procs (which I support).

If he just wants to fix it with a one time cost for a point to point link from his GF house to his PC then a ubnt radio would be the way to go or a pringles which is less bulky to set up in a room then a dish.

He could go use something like wireshark and start reading packetheaders to pull out a wep or ssid maybe a wpa but why bother when the internet you want and is accessible that's down the street?

Eclipse if you cant get your problem resolved and this its wifi related send me a PM with a address of your choosing and I will send you some used radios that you can have. Should make the link if your GF is down your street.

Na its ok. I have setup the free laptop i had gotten and it seems to be able to play daoc, with everything turned down and at 1024x768. Its still gets some video lag, but is playable. I have my big computer setup to get the connection from my GF house ( 350-400 feet ), then it shares that connection from my computer as an AP for my laptop. This way i dont need to use my big computer, which would of lead to losing connection as the cpu was being used.

In game on the laptop seems to work just fine, not much of any connection lag, not the best frame rate, but at least i can play. Hopefuly i can get out of this finacil rut and get my internet back. Till then this will work.

Well this laptop seems to be working out. But even with all the game settings to low, models, view distance, shadows and so on, it still gets large lag spikes, normaly when looking into the distance with many mobs in view. I have found a program ( GMA Booster ), that increases my onboard video core speed, from 233Mhz to 333 Mhz without trouble and seems to help a little.

Does anyone know of other ways to improve frame rate in game ? Is there any way to lower the game quality even more, possibly by some DirectX tools or something. This video card doesnt have any options for DirectX, just openGL. Here is what im working on.

Toshiba Satellite M45-S2693 Laptop
CPU: 1.73Ghz ; RAM: 2GB DDR2
Chipset: Intel 915

GPU: Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family

Window XP/SP3 x86

For now, i will have to avoid the lag area's in DF, when im in there, till i can find more ways to improve frame rate, or get my own internet connection back and can use my Desktop Computer's Ati 3870 Card.
