the way SCing works has been changed since then, so this wouldn´t help. |

This presents a problem ![]() Having not played live since changes were made I don't know what the new mechanic is. I knew that they had normalised the capacity of all items to have the same imbue points as MP items what else did they change? Scratch that... from VN boards "I can't help you on the actual formula, but mostly because it doesn't matter a whole lot anymore. You might blow yourself up, and lose a gem (or gems), but the item itself is no longer destroyed. Ever. Gem quality is no longer relevant. Item quality is no longer relevant to determining imbue points, though it does effect failure rates. What most are doing now if they're concerned about blowing up the gems is imbuing the more expensive three first, then doing the cheapest one as a separate imbue (since gem quality doesn't matter anymore, we can break up the imbue process into stages if we choose). ... dumbed down SC /facepalm I recall that in the original system an epmty socket counted as the lowest quality possible (94%) iirc instant boom if attempting an OC with 3 gems |

I have done some googling but not found much...
taken from http://rayzor.co.uk/html/the_prettybubb ... rafti.html
On Uthgard with 30% success rate on 99% item 4*99% gem combinations you combine each piece 3,33 times on average, with 1% chance of explosion each combine that also means 3,33% chance of explosion per item... or the fellow spellcrafter quoted above wouldve lost 20 items in 600 instead of 1 with the Uthgard formula. Not even factoring in the written down hearsay of 98% gems being used without any explosion. ![]() |

I have been doing the same not much joy either. I am absolutely certain from the experiments I did back then that my previously quoted mechanic worked on my server. I never made a big thing about the results it at the time as it enabled me to corner the SC market for about a month as I could craft suits cheaper than my competitors. Ultimately this was self destructive as soon after I was getting PMs every few minutes for orders when I still had a good weeks worth or orders to process; spent the next 6 months /anon though every so often I would get a send... Blahblah sends> "." then... Blahblah sends> "I have a SCing order for you..." I wish I had documented it all back then with screenies, oh hindsight what a great thing you are. Something else I meant to ask actually was about SCers and enchanting. On live I was able to buy tinctures from one of the pages on a SCing merchant and through them I was able to enchant the bonus stat on items. The trick I gleamed from experimentation on that was to appraise an armour piece or weapon at a vendor, by the tincture things of the NPC so that the sum of the monetary value was just under half the appraise value offered for sell back to the NPC and combine and it would then increase the "Bon"(us) value of the item to its cap. If more was added it would just go to cap and money was wasted on the excess. If less, then it would not reach its bonus cap but more could be added subsequently, often costing more overall than getting it right first off. Doing this, akin to crafted dyes, it worked out about half the cost of NPC enchanters. Anyone else remmeber this, have any records of this? |

Sorry to necro an old thread but was this every agreed on and/or fixed?
I'm also a past live player who SC'd hundreds of items using the 2 99% gem 2 98% gem minimum formula for zero failures on 99% qual items. |

Bump.
Looking for insight into this and current best practice to OC 99% gear. Thanks |
|
OC explosion chance is still 1% with all 99% (item + 4 gems) currently. To eliminate that risk, one of the components (be it one of the gems or the item itself) has to be a masterpiece. I hope that helps. |

Shoudl it be fixed ? Or it's not considered a bug ? RIP : Ectoplasme

Not entirely certain on this, you'll have to wait for one of the internal staff members to comment. To make this topic more easily accessible, I've also moved it into the right subforum. |

Thanks guys.
Man the current rules are much rougher than it was on live. I went looking for support for this but sadly the best source was probably the old DAoC ign boards which are gone. A lot of the older SC sites, even those with great detailed formulas, are often wrong. Do most people then take the 1% chance or ensure they get an mp gem and 3 99% gems? My SC suit just got a whole lot more expensive ![]() |

Well depends on the rarity of the item itself I would say, one time I did SC for an entire FG, so 8 people, about 7+ items each. I always tried to have 4x99%, needless to say I did blow up twice ^^
I usually try to use at least one +1 all melee/magic skills in each piece, they are dirt cheap and super fast to craft, so if you want you get those as MP, just a bit annoying. |
