I installed DAoC, updated to v 1.83, and modified the .bat file in the loader directory. One thing stands in my way from playing on the server....I dont know how to edit the update.dat file....is there some way to change it manually or do I need a special program to alter the file?

right click on the update.dat -> open with -> choose notepad (or whatever standard text editor you have available)

Once the File is opened in Notepad or any other editor for plain text, you can easily edit it as described in the tutorials.

If you already have installed 1.83 there is no real need to change update.dat...unless you want to upgrade from a lower add-on to a higher one.
Happy hunting!

Thanks for the help T-man and sokrana, I really appriciate it...I upgraded to catacombs, so Ill try updating the .dat file and if that doesnt work, Ill uninstall and do a fresh reinstall with just the regular v. 1.83.
