Hey.
Old school DAoC player that left the game for WoW (do not hate me), and now my nostalgia has overpowered to a point where I just have to play this game again, without all the new expansions. I plan on joining the Hib side, as I have always favored it, but I am not yet sure what to play. One side of me wants to get something with range, to increase the amount of fun one can have in keep fights. But, how often are there keep fights? The other side of me wants to play maybe a Shield Hero or a LW Champion. But how good is Guard on this server? And how "liked" are LW Champions for 8v8 RvR? Any information about the classes and their state within the society would be appreciated. Thank you, Ciubhran. |

Champs, Animists and Wardens arent grouped that often like all other casters and tanks, although it is possible in non-leet (caster) groups.
On the other hand a 42 shield specced lw champ could do the same job as a hero in a caster group with det5. Moreover my recommendation would be 42 shields 50 lw and 39 valor, this is the common spec most group champs have on this server. |

Hm. Feels like a Hero would be better then, if it is a Guard you want in your team.
Is the server mostly melee or caster-centric when it comes to 8v8? Playing a Hero also opens up the chance to use Celtic Spear. And it seems the new skill tree is really good, with the 0.98 anytime Eagle Talon, and a "from-behind" 40% snare. |

Yes, guard is really nice but in terms of a champ i meant debuffing enemies and slaming tanks of the casters and rupt enemies too.

So many decisions, so many different fun aspects.
Hard to choose. A 50/42/39 LW/Shield/Valor Champ somehow feels gimped to me, whereas a 50/50 CS/Shield Hero feels more proper, in some way. Both do the same job (apart from the fact that the Hero is probably a bit more defensive), but like you said the Champ has some more options. But the Hero can take a bigger beating and doesn't have to sacrifice anything really (like the Champ sacrifices some valuable points Valor/Parry, to get 42 Shield). |

They have different jobs. Champ is more offensive but also has to slam off tanks from casteres. Hero is indeed a defensive char and he can also get the realm abitlies soldiers barricade or dashing defense.
On the other hand champs could get wrath of the champion (pbaoe) for cleaning massive petspam or static tempest for additional stun (but it is currently still bugged I think). Moreover 39 valor should be enough, you wont need a better selfbuff in groups and the second best debuffs are ok too (value vs manacosts). |

If you wanna play Hero, get 50 LW 42 AShield 39 Spear, you will gain utility, all different damage types and a backsnare, and you will not loose to much damage when using spear. Also having 1h weapon spec is good for PvE only, so you won´t miss it in RvR anyways.

Eh no there's only two ways to spec a group champ. 50 LW 50 valor 28 parry, and if you're not good at landing positionals 50 valor 42 shield 39 LW. Red debuffs are simply devastating if used properly, but then again nobody will invite a champion to a group anyway knowing static tempest doesn't work and 2h damage isn't the greatest on uthgard either. I know I wouldn't ![]() |

Level 23 now, so far this server has been awesome!
Been playing around alot in DF, and even though there is always some angry alb who decides to go greyganking, most people just run by you, which you NEVER saw on live servers back in 2003-2004 ![]() Also, the friendliness surpassed my expectations. You dont have to wait long for a crafter to take your order, and even better, I came across an Animist farming jewelry in Koalinth Caverns the other day, who decided to be nice enough to store all his scale loot and come drop it off to me in DF. And this did not benefit this person at all, he just did it out of kindness (probably). Epic win! Time to hit 30 today! |
