Is speccing shield viable here? And I mean for more than just getting Slam. Basically what I'm asking is the defense rates in the Shield/Parry specs up to par like they are on Live servers. I believe it should be about for every one point in shield or parry you spec, you get 0.5% more defense.

Is this correct or at least near right here?

Blockrates are extremely high, shield is definitely the way to go.

I can't comment on the underlying equation uthgard uses, however it has been demonstrated that block rates on uthgard are much higher than on live, most likely because of a lack of defense penetration. The equation could be off too, but we know defense penetration is off for sure, and that block rates for both specced and unspecced shield are effectively higher because of at least that.

To answer your question, yes speccing shield for the purpose of increasing your block rate works.

as i've heard 50 shield skill equates to about 50% block rate here. i was told this by vangonaj.

No.. its not just that. You can have 50% block chances VS an enemy under special conditions..on live i had it when defender was 50 shield spec and had 330+ dext, attacker was a pala class with low WS .

Well with uthgard block rate + spec is very close to 50% or is 50%. When i have combats vs shield tanks they block half of hits.

Then the block rate is actually over 75% (capped), because your LA reduces their block rate by half. That means that their actual block rate is 100%.

No, seriously!

No XD. But is very high blockrate, and im sure that paladins, heroes or champs dont spec 50 shield. I think is very close to 50%, but maybe im wrong.

Vangonaj, think about it. DW/CD/LA classes reduce block rate by half, just like they reduce evade rate by half.

What is half of 100%?

Then why are you disagreeing with me? I'm not disagreeing with you. I believe you! A block rate of 100% is achievable with Uthgard's broken formula. The only reason you can hit a shield tank at all is because of the hard cap (75%), and the defense penalty from LA.

force is correct ;)

it's all defensive mechanisms that are wrong, so just nerfing/fixing block would be not constructive.

Also just throwing it out there - this defense helps support to survive on a server where charge tanks are too strong
