Running it myself on Win 7 with no problems, also on a laptop. Have you tried enabling WinXP Compatibility mode?

Yup, I couldn't even get it to start otherwise. A friend of mine however could run it right off the bat without any tweaking (also on Win7). O.o

Im running win7 64bit and daoc runs as it has allwes without tweaks or anything. Maybe the game is causing the laptop to over heat and shuts down the game when it gets too hot and some hardware causes the game to crash because its too hot. Make sure all the heat vents from the CPU and so on are not full of dust or what ever and not blocked when using the laptop. Try running the game for a little while, then have /clientsleep background set or minimize set and minimize it for a little , so it can cool down, then contenue and see if it lets you play longer, if it does, it could possibley be a heat issue. If not, maybe a custom UI is causing the issues or maybe try re-downloading the game again and see if it was something wrong with a file. Good Luck

i think this could be the problem, earlier i was just browsing forums and it was crazy hot on my lap.

thanks again to everyone for your speedy replies.

sidenote: for anyone else, does it seem like the built-in laptop keyboard lags on daoc? or is it just the laptop keyboard itself?

Ok, I searched and found this, I am running a computer with a 64 bit system, but I chose to run the program in xp mode and as an admin. I get to the creating a character section, make my thane, and when i try to go play I get a black screen for a minute and back to the character screen again. Im not real tech savy so keeping the answer in small words would be great. :)

Thanks in advance.

if you have multiple cpus you need to set affinity to only 1 for the game, it doesn't like to run on more than 1 processor.

I have downloaded the game, however I can't get it to run on my computer. I can't even get it to patch for some reason. Is there something I am doing wrong?
