How exactly is any caster in the game supposed to function vs charge?

no seriously... I wanna know.

Its insane... its not even like SoS where you can at least stand there like a moron and wait for them to swing at you and THEN do something....

charge persists even after combat has started... so

tell me... exactly... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COUNTER CHARGE?

oh ya. I cant. /release.

Well, NF RA's were made for ToA mostly ... including Bodyguard/Grapple Battlemaster abilities for example. It's useless to play a Caster with ToA RA's without ToA Abilities and without ToA Bonus to counter some of them.

Roll a Tank, as everyone else does. If you don't -> live with being killed almost every inc, at least the Clerics/Pala might get some Rezz-RP, the positive aspect. :)

couldnt you just get like MoC 2 or 3 and purge 1 or 2 and try and kill them before they kill you ? If you have a lifetap, it would possibly keep you a live maybe. But yes these RAs are based on things we do not have also.

humm Charge was also Giving to light Tanks Pre ToA ^^

only way to conter it, is to live long enough for it to wear off...

I know some higher RR caster do spec points into PD, to help stay alive long enough, so they can start doing there job later ^^ or if you got MoC3 even during the attack :+)

Heho,

You can pre kite, so if you see tanks coming to you turn around and run.
Thats include maybe that you don´t cast at the beginning of a fight to have speed.

Some Tanks don´t charge at the beginning so you can root them, if they use charge when you try ro root, try to run away before the cast is done.

Charge is an active ability that does cost some points. There are many abilities that can counter charge, ist just that they also cost some time or points.

1st Charge is an active RA that costs some points, so if you want to counter it, youve also got to invest points, into moc for example. Else, most classes do have a special ability that they gain at rr5 to counter charge.

2nd youre a speedclass(sorc, theurg, ench, rm), you see an enemy charge, run for your life. If youre lucky, to the point they reach you, their charge will be gone and you just qc-root/mezz/stun+bomb them. To counter this one, tanks need to invest points into det, else an ench will be easily able to kill with stun+bomb, like vs mobs as an example. So as you see, tanks need to invest lots of points into RAs that would help counter casters.
But thats not something most of you think about.

It is true, that speedtrap actually made it easy to survive charge, but cmon, its not like its so hard to outrun a charging tank, especially on inc when you still got speed5 from skald/bard/minstrel.

    - root / snare the tank before she charges

As he someone said... Charge contering is more a supporter job than a caster job.

On my Druid, I always try to kite first, to root melee charge class, or shear them while they reach their target, or just starting to heal from far.

The cast havn't many choice to counter it, I'll just advice you to try to reach the 1st def tank to guard you and slam the enemies at soon as it can be.

Why moc to counter? You're not gonna nuke it down unless maybe you take moc3 and ra's like moc3 or pd5 shouldn't be specced untill you took mana ra's and dmg ra's. Which would be at a lot higher rr than det5 and charge which can be attained at rr4l9.

Prekiting a charge is most of the time impossible unless with eld rr5 cause your caster is gonna be in combat almost the entire fight if it even has speed (hib grp w/o warden/chanter). Sure if they charge on inc but then they're just dumb and you should win regardless of charge :p.

Those are not COUNTERS to charge just as purge is not supposed to be a COUNTER for ns.

There are many counters to charge :
- Pray your supports can heal you
- Pray your supports have DI/BOF up
- Pray your guardbot is near and blocks enough hits
- Pray the tanks don't get aog
- Accept rez

and lol moc3 on uthgard. Unless you play pure solo with a lifetap char (and even then you will need purge 2/3) you will just be oom in 15 seconds without kiling anyone.

Yes and it was sprint speed without cc immunities, doesn't really compare to NF one.

Here we have a problem with all the tank grps on utgard, caster here are almost useless vs any ( ANY) tank grp, high miss ratio and low damage vs tank damage and charges make any caster 2 /3 hit before kiss the grass .

Do you want to counter charge, or do you want to be a strong damage-caster that is able to counter charge?

As a lifeleech-caster moc2+purge1(vs slam). is enough to counter charge. And much cheaper than det5 charge1.
As a DD-caster youd rather have moc2+purge1(vs slam)+mom+wp+acu+dex+pd since you need to deal more damage than your enemy, but beside caby and ench (and theurg on uthgard) every other caster has a rr5 to counter charge or damage. Cabby doesnt need a rr5 as counter, since hes a LL+debuff caster, similar to BD, while Ench can have a pet that heals him, and therefore has a chance to survive as long as he has pd specced and pet can keep casting heals, theurg is the only class without any valid counter with uthgard settings(due to rr5 beeing bugged).

I belive, every single tutorial about daoc-classes says that playing casters is the hardest and most complex way to play this game(there are exceptions though). So dont start crying about having to think when playing a caster.

If you cant think of a way to counter charge yourself and are too stubborn to try things i tell you, ask Haiden, Mentha or Akejode(a theurg) how they counter charge, since ive seen em running solo quite often in the past(and Akejode still runs alot solo even in OF).
