Just curious if there are any ultra melee spec rangers out there, and what is ur experience.

Heres a template I came up with:

34 Pierce
39 CD
50 Path
24 Stealth
Auto Bow

Less path more CD and stealth

A good melee ranger should have 44 cd just for better offhandhits. The lvl 50 style is fine aswell, if youre hitting capped speed, its a dream-combo that hits PA-like with 3 styles 0,7, 1,1 and 1,3 grs...

Hows about this:

Path 36
Stealth 29
CD 50
Pierce 34

or this

Path 46
Stealth 29
CD 39
Pierce 34

Im thinking that last Dmg add for an extra 2.1 dps MIGHT be worth losing the added styles in the CD line. I figure I can get close to or over 50 composite CD/Pierce so offhand hits should be the same as speccing 50 CD correct? Thoughts?

First has too low path and second too low stealth, but the second sounds interesting for sure.

lower pierce/stealth and increase CD as RR grows

doubt the 46 dmg add is worth not having decent stealth

At lower RR, you can go 44 pierce and have 30ish CD instead as well. Dmg is overall the same basically.


At RR8 you can get 44CD, composite 51 weapon, composite 50 stealth and still have 42pf.

I agree with that, the diffrince between 9.4 and 7.3 is only a few dmg, minus resists, at a great cost of spec pts. And i think 39 CD is decent enough, going to 44 is to costly at a small bonus in dual hit chance, which i think is like 3 - 4 %. Just raise it with RR as nix said.

Cool, I think I may give it a try. As a ranger in the olden days I was 100% focused on bows, and if I ever had to go toe to toe with any other class I was TOAST. Im really looking forward to ruining some Infs/SBs day . I honestly think I have a better chance against Infs/Sbs with this spec than as a NS. Am I in fantasy land?

It's just that you'll realize soon that you'll have to compete for your kills with more rangers than anyone would dare imagine...

ya, tons of rangers out there in OF. No way youl see assasins out there lol.

that's why there are more Rangers in the top 50 LWRP than Infiltrators, Nightshades, Hunters, and Scouts combined lol.

I was mostly hybrid on my Ranger on blue servers but at RR7 I switched to:

12 bow(think it was +14 with bow up)
30 stealth +18
39 blades
44 CD
42 path

And it was pretty nice, I could take on any melee class depending on how many abilities I had active although some were very tough like Reavers and Mercs, really had to put a couple arrows in them and dump RA's and ML's and hope for a friendly RNG to win.

Then they nerfed the crap out of Rangers and gave away half their unique ability to the other archers and I stopped playing it.

At RR8 I was going to drop Path to 36 and stealth to 29 and raise CD to 50. Of course without bots I'd want higher path here.

Top 10 lvl 50's Of each class for RPLW combined.

Ranger - 1,293,353 (24%) \
Nightshade - 672,027 (12%) / 1,965,380 (36%)

Scout - 545,486 (10%) \
Infi - 1,041,653 (19%) / 1,587,139 (29%)

Hunter - 540,865 (10%) \
Shadowblade - 1,385,207 (25%) / 1,926,072 (35%)

So as you can see in OF/DF the most popular archer is the ranger, with the scout and hunter about equal. While the SB is the greatest assasin currently, with the infi in second and NS as the most lacking. I assume that is because many prefer a melee ranger over the NS, not hybrid or bow spec, but melee. And that its not the bow that is making a ranger strong, but the high melee spec and of course PD. One reason for that could be , because there is no Elemental weapon, so PD is a good choice for the ranger and casters. But as you can see the SB is still doing just fine, even better then the ranger. So to claim the ranger is OP, youl have to aggre the SB is too or is it assasins are suppose to kill all archers and archer classes shouldnt, non sense thinking. Now with elemental weapons, youl get past the PD, at the cost of being attack with heat weapons and suffering the +15% dmg vs your leather while cold vs archers is only +10%, and specing pierc for a ranger will work out even better, since str/con debuff is only half effective and the dmg type with a heat piercer works out good. And if there is many out there with leg weapons, instead of PD, they can go to thoughtness/AoM. So when it comes down to it, its still going to be able the same. No wonder rangers where a liked meleeing class on live, back then. Compared to other stealth classes.

I thought about it, but at 39 u get a decent 2 style chain that starts from any position, where super nova requires u to start from the side. Thats ALOT of points to invest as well at the detriment of ur main wep skill. I think u will lose alot of dmg with low pierce like that, and unless u get that side style off, it will be for nothing.
