So, I've been thinking about rolling a melee alt and I've been looking at the different abilities that melee classes have. One thing that's jumped to my mind is how it seems that some classes simply have fewer toys to play with than others. Of course, this is only with a superficial look, since not all abilities are created equal. But I wanted to ask which class people believe has the most toys to play with? I don't like one trick ponies, which is why I love my healer.

Ah, I remember playing a VW a bit when SI came out. The Scythe path is interesting? This said, I recall reading that we're on a patch just before a patch that buffed VWs. I think I also read something about some bugged abilities and that they were unwanted in groups, since they were underperforming.

I personally would say stealthers can be the most complex melee class there is.. but that is how you make it.. all melee classes can be dull and boring and all can be exiting and complex.. it all depends how you play them..

personally I love my NS because of its complex parts.. so many different specs you can go and so many different style combos and so many different tactics to different targets.. and thats without even considering RA setup.. there is SO many ways to make your own NS unique and complex

Stealthers do seem interesting, but they miss out on the group dynamics. I suppose that a "shadowzerker" could still be possible, but I'm not sure if they're viable in groups.

My guild leader pre-SI was a melee ranger. That could also be an option.

MK often run a melee ranger when we do rvr

its good dps + takes less dmg than a BM + have a few nice tools

but MK isn't running 8v8 OMFG setups either so..

and its hard to find a complex melee char that both grp and solo.. atleast when it comes to RAs

If by melée you mean specs weapon, minstrel. They have prolly the most toys/tricks of almost any toon in the game, and can go from a soloer with a pet to a great insta interupter secondary ccer in a group.

If you want higher dps, I would say either valewalker, maybe skald, reaver could be an option.

But if you're looking for a chalenging class with a lot to do try minstrel or petstrel.

Well when looking at melee classes, those with less tools, tend to have the better dmg tables and less complex to melee but can be the easyer ones to play in melee, but if your looking for a challenge , with many game play styles, then i would go with a Valewalker or a ranger. The valewalker has many styles with procs on it, he has a instent root, and dot to intrupt, and lifetap to DD at range and gain life from it.

The ranger gets stealth, bow for ranged attacks to start a fight with and kiting, decent melee depending on spec and RAs to help with your game play. Some think PD5 makes this class OP, but to have the RAs you need and PD5 you need the higher RR, which will take time to earn. You also get self buffs, which you will have to work into your spec, because they are part of your balance and without will hurt your chances at killing anything. If you go with a hybrid spec, you can melee and use bow , which gives you the most utility. You will have to learn your enemys, and learn how to identify them in a small time frame before they are out of range, since a ranger has to know what to do vs each class to have a chance, like vs a reaver, you want to avoid being stunned and if you have to get stunned, have your back agenst the zone wall, building, or tree to avoid rear style, that is a i win for them.

But as said any class can be complex, it just depends on how you want to play, if you choose to run in a grp, fallow the main tank and button mash a few styles, you will not feel your char be that complex because of your game play you choose, but if you go out solo , things will change alot and youl have to learn a more complex strat for playing.

Troll Berserker is definitely the most complex melee class
