I've been thinking of leveling a Healer, since I only discovered the archetype in WAR and the Healer seems to me like the most interesting support class in DAoC.

But, I'll only have time to play as a casual player. My understanding is that leveling in Uthgard is precisely like pre-SI leveling, which is already a bit discouraging. However, as a support class on a freeshard (and probably low pop) server, I'm left wondering if this is going to be even more difficult.

I'd like to add that, though I think that simply speeding up the process would have been appropriate, I do respect the choice to make leveling pre-SI style, even if this might mean that the server is not for me (though I'll give it a try).

PS: I see that Midgard is now the high pop realm. In practice, is the difference significant? I'm definitely interested in playing Mid classes now, but I'm willing to reconsider.

Cheers.

if you go aug healer you should have no problems lvling

grp as much as you can with tanks and when there isn't any tanks to grp you can usually solo yellow-orange monsters which is good xp

healer is probably one of the easier support classes to level

Thanks.

I just found out that Thidranki seems accessible at all levels, which definitely makes leveling up more interesting.

In response to the "go aug" option: are respecs free on this server? Or are they expensive? In classic there were no respecs at all and I don't want to get stuck being an aug healer.

You get free single line respecs at lvl 20 and lvl 40,

You can buy single line respecs for 1000 bounty points (commonly sold for 1p from other players)

And full skill respec/RA respec for 2000 bounty points (commonly sold for 2p from other players)

You can buy them for diamond seals too.

Well, I'm L20 atm and I can say that I'm surprised by how well Aug Healers level. There's little to no downtime and I tend to solo on yellows and oranges. Since I have no combat styles, I just use autoattack, so I have DAoC in windowed mode and can read the news, play my midi keyboard or whatever else while fighting; if I'm on Firefox, I can still see my health and enemy health bars. This even works in groups when the action is predictible.

So, while I expected the leveling to be annoying, it turns out that Healers are the perfect class for me to level, since they make multitasking easy.

While I'm at it, I was wondering if anyone had tips on spec'ing for Braemar. I was think of going 19 Aug and the rest into Paci, until I reach 38 paci, and then everything in mending (for a final 33/19/38 spec).

This is exactly what I'm doing with my scout, since I barely get in any groups. I just do a crit-shot, switch to melee, press auto attack and do something else for a minute. Rinse, repeat :)

You mention possible troubles at leveling a healer on a low-pop freeshard... well I think you'd be surprised how fast the population here is growing. Player numbers have more than doubled during last year and we're still hitting server caps. I see hordes of lowbies running around and I'm sure there's a lot more to join. Finding a group at any level range, especially on Mid should not be a problem.
