Thanks for the news !
About the lag and the possible change of server host? What would be the amount of money (yealry) that you'd require to improve things on this matter?
Maybe it is time to launch a Donate campaign?
Is there a way to help aside of Donate ? For instance will it be illegal if Uthgard (without reference to DAoC) would sell T-shirts with a nice banner (if a poll show that people would buy them at least) ?

Anyway, congratulations to the Uthgard Staff, ancient and new members, you do a terrific job !

Any News regarding Megalodon ? Guess for most people he's more important than The Green Knight, Glacier Giant and Evern :D

We're not really sure about that right now, but as it seems we are going to put Megalodon's loot on other bossmobs.

The yearly amount? If they don't change the values it would be 600 € per year plus an additional cost of 149€ for the initial setup. The only problem might be the traffic which isn't unlimited there. Depending on the playercount it could be more than 2000 GB/month which is the free-of-charge limit. However this does not include possible support needs like we had sometimes during the past year.

A fundraiser would be a great idea. "If you love Uthgard, and want to reduce lag, donate a little. A lot of littles go a long way!"

We're having over 600 players on every single day now, and if everyone donates 10 cents a month we would have probably $1200 dollars a year to run the server. I don't know how much that is in Euros, but I do know it's a large enough amount to host a server that could handle at least 1000 simultaneous players.

Now I know that not everyone will donate, but just remember that every little bit helps.[/b]

So basically if 10% or something of the active population were to donate the price of a couple of beers, the shard could be hosted on a better server?
Honest I thought it was costing alot more - I will retrieve my Paypal IDs after work today :)

And about Uthgard T-Shirt? I would be interested for instance.
I guess it would need some artistic concept to put in place first but plenty of us in the community have probably some talent to design something cool.
I don't know the cost for such a thing though (I've sent a textile print company to get an idea) and shipping costs need to be investigated too.

Not too much my thing but maybe some people would want to participate to a cosplay contest with an participation fee out of which the three first contestant would get some price and the rest of the money could go for the server?

Some sort of once-a-year event that would raise funds in fact, I dunno - let me know, I'm willing to help :)

The T-Shirt is an interesting thing, of course. The problem I would see in that is the commercial aspect which could definitely become a problem with EAMythic.

Yeah and I guess that now that you host more people than they do on their servers they might be ****** and ready to use any opportunity to try to shutdown Uthgard :S

Is the forum legally bound also? Could it be used to talk about a for-profit project? For instance if one artist here was to design a t-shirt and sell it to this specific community and decide on his personal ground to refund his/her benefits to the server ?

Some other i50 shard was shut down because they tried to make money out of it. I don't think DoL allows commercial activities.

And that's the point I am talking about. Nice idea though but hard if not even impossible to realize.

I just registered to thank you guys for the amazing work!

I've been on this server for 2 months now (a friend brought me back to daoc after a 3(?)-years-break) and the community is just great!

It already feels like home. :D

You really should ask the people to donate a small amount via server-message.
Explain your situation and the expenses you have to cover, just like you did in this forum.
The community is growing and that's great for everyone (the 1000 mark isn't so far away anymore), but the costs are also growing.
I'm sure many people can relate to that fact.

Set a donation goal (for 2009) and make a request once every month.

Make clear, that every donation, regardless how much, helps immense.

When i reach 50, i will definitely donate something.
Which brings me to my question: How and where can i donate?
Is it even legally possible?

Greetings from Germany,

Whoot ;)
