I used to be able to play DAOC with no problems before I had Vista. Now after a long wait I'm back playing DAOC and I freeze up randomly. I have all my updates and latest patches and drivers so I'm stuck and have no idea what to do next.

Maybe it's a setting or something.

I have 32 bit Vista updated, Nvidia 7600 updated, dirextx updated, 4 gigs of memory, plenty of virtual memory and no other game freeze on my computer. I've even tried lowest settings.

Please someone help I really want to play.

Does it just freeze up during gameplay, or when firing up? Any more specifics you can get?

It sometimes freezes up at the character selection/creation screen. Other times after an hour of play. When I log back in it may be anywhere between over an hour to 5 minutes before my computer freezes again.

xp sp2 or 2003 sp1? Also do I change the comp. for the DAOC Portal or another file in my DAOC folder?

This doesn't work, the problem is the game (game.dll) not the launcher (daocportal.exe). Are two different software.
Btw, are you using the last official Nvidea drivers? To be sure try also a virus/maleware checkup.
I had a similar problem in winxp with my old computer with a Nvidea gfx card and games , fixed updating the video drivers.

Yes the latest Nvidia drivers. Virus free. The comp. only shows XP sp 2 there is no sp 1 option for XP.

is there a way to get it to not freeze?

Sounds crazy, but in some cases, older nvidia-drivers works better than the newest.

If you use an old gfx-card try an older driver, could fix the problem maybe.
The other thing could be some kind of overheating.

I repeat my question, do you use iTunes? If I have iTunes running, I crash after character selection and if I launch iTunes after Ive logged a char in, I get an occasional crash of game.dll. Killing the game doesnt kill game.dll and after a minute or 2, my PC freezes completely.

This is on Vista 64bit.
