Hello all since a couple weeks i am playing on Uthgard Mid side with my Skald , named " Panzerfaust " now suddenly i see him renamed with the weird lol name skelesh or something like that .
Now i was wondering if there are people who can tell me if they find "Panzerfaust" an offending name, kept in mind that it actually is German for " The fist of an Armor" . If u look it up on Wiki u can see that there are multiple meanings for this name but i personaly wanted to use the name as being the Fist of an Armor, nothing else. Why should it be renamed without warning or contacting me in game before doing ? And if the GM's realy have good reason for it ,..is there no option for me to choose another name in some way? Thx in advance and hope to see u in game soon. P.S. been trying to contact a GM ingame trough /who 100 but so far no succes.... ![]() |

if you had read the rules, you would had seen that to contact a GM /who 100 isn't the good way and that /callgm <text> is .

we are not roleplaying server but RP names are enforced, get used to it

i think there are/were many worse names on this server but it has been discussed so many times on wich name is appropiate and wich is not. you might call "the fist of armor" but i think the majority would call it simply Bazooka. Last edited by Esme on Jun 11, 2009 09:56, edited 1 time in total.

Quoted for truth. What it is and how people see it are distinct. Remember Uthgard is international, and GMs are to be cautious about this. Different people, different cultures, different points of view. A swastika could be described as an ancient symbol of good luck, but the majority of people won't see it that way, understandably. I'm not shocked by panzerfaust and I honestly don't care. But I can understand easily why it has been considered as inappropriate. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

You must be joking. |

it was unappropriate learn to live with it |

I don't see how this name could be offensive. Because of the WWII panzerfaust ? No, please, that would be just too ridiculous. A panzerfaust doesn't have anything in common with a svastika or other symbols of ******, it was just a conventional weapon that they happened to use.
Not saying names shouldn't be censored, but this is just a bit too much. |

read the rules
they found it unappropriate |

Well ,....
first,.... i also USed the command callGM a couple times but that didn't give any result either. second,.... i have read the rules and i was realy playing in mind with a character who did not have an inappropriate name.(Also because it is a name i used for about 3 years on the official servers) third,.... I'm still wondering if a GM can contact me trough this forum or in game to explain how they see this as inappropriate, and if possible give me the right to change it atleast in another name. Final , i have never had the intention to use a name that would be offending others or that would implicit some agressive statements to other players or the universe. thx for all the replies so far. |

Then simply contact privately one of them. Such things are not to be settled in a public topic anyway. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

Thanks for sharing that, we didn't get it the first time. Now, what about actually talking about the issue here ? Not that I'm complaining for myself as I never had a problem with my names. Also, I fully understand the need to censor some names, but there has to be some some guidelines to help people avoid this problem. Simply answering something like "THEY DUN LIEK IT, BRO" doesn't help. So, looking at the rules, we have some pretty usefull stuff, way more helpfull than your answers :
Now, what I would like is an explanation of how something like Panzerfaust would fit into one or more of these categories. It is nowhere near Zyklon B or svastika, remember this was just an anti-tank weapon. It's similar to someone naming his char Bigsword, or some stuff like that. Still not QQing, just want to understand the logic. Also if we have a nice staff answer, we will be able to point people to it in the future. @kikoo : i beg to differ, if we have some good explanations, perhaps it will : 1 - prevent others from doing the same, thus saving staff time in the future 2 - help those who don't understand why their name got changed to understand it. Only advantages ! |

I see your logic, but I don't see how this can fit in name's cases. You can't go 100% "by-the-book" for name choices. GMs can't make a list that would include every and any good/bad names (would be silly to try), as well as they can't state a precise rule that would summarize how they deal with any case. And even if they would, there would still be a good amount of people that would play with rule's flaws (people love to play, don't they ![]() GMs can deal with this only on a case-by-case basis. That may lead some person to "break" a rule he couldn't know, and feel the name change as a punishment. Nothing a private message can't sort out IMO. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

This is a helpful answer. If we as staff consider a name not fitting we simply have the right to rename a character. A "Panzerfaust" being a weapon to attack armored vehicles (e.g. tanks like a Sherman Tank, Tiger Tank, Leopard2, Abrams and so on / not tank in terms of Warrior, Hero or Armsman,...) makes no sense as name due to armored vehicles not being part of the DAoC lore. If you want your character re-renamed I suggest to contact us via callgm. With kind regards, Haldan |
