Yea, and its easy to want something you have no clue about either like all the people who are asking for Old RA's and dont have a clue about how they worked in the past...

It's easy to stereotype every call for a change like this. Who are you to tell other players that might aswell have played the game since release or beta aswell, that they don't have a clue about how things worked in the past?

Anyway, if that's how you look towards people stating their opinion, you might aswell remove the forums and let the staff do as they please, even if it is the opposite of what the community thinks of it. Not everyone is trying to force only their own personal will onto the devs without thinking twice about the complete picture and overall impact of that change, not giving any attention to the fact that the change is not a matter of magic, but hard work from the staff. Most of us in fact do want whats best for the server, and yes, that's also because we actually play on the server and hope for things to improve so that we could have a better time ourselves. It would be unnatural to ask for things that are not beneficial to the things u are related to or to your experience in general. In fact, most people want to improve the server just as good as the devs, the big difference however is, that not all of us are able to help them out as well as a co-staff member could regarding work or assistance, most of us can only watch what is happening to the server, evaluate gameplay experience and give feedback to the staff. Of course we respect and thank the staff for what effort and time they are and have put into the server, though does that mean we can not evaluate and give feedback while sometimes critisizing certain decisions?

For instance, attracting more players would be beneficial for the gameplay experience, which is one of the things I see would be accomplished by implementing OF. This and weighing off the good and bad sides of my proposal leads me to posting and defending it because I feel it would in fact benefit the server in general and in the long term, thus indirectly or even directly benefit myself. A proposal that's not thought trough, would have no or very few chances on getting accepted or even considered, which is why I'm trying to dig as deep as I can into the subject and its possible place on Uthgard.

Isn't it logical that when you create a server with a classic concept, that it will attract players fond of the original classic setting, containing Old RAs and Old Frontiers? Especially when they see how New RAs and New Frontiers not only not fit the concept, but also create a situation where mechanics -based on a concept totally different from the classic one- are affecting certain balances in the gameplay (for instance caster-tank balance, end RvR gameplay experience, ...)?
I don't see how it's wrong to ask for changes that are honestly considered to be worth the effort in the complete picture. However, I must admit that not everyone thinks this far when asking for a certain change.

Edit; this does not mean players are stating Old RAs for instance will provide the perfect balance. It would just be a way better mechanic to have as a starting point on the way to Classic balance, then new RAs that are fully ToA orientated, because New RAs will indifferently end up in having to add those ToA mechanics in some way, whereas the Old RAs do not have that prerequisite in order to be succesful.
Anyway, i'm terribly going off-topic here, my apologies.

Yes, a temporary fix. As i see it, uthgard has a major leakage of players from here to Wotw server. It would be advisable to do something soon or situation is only going to get worse.

Staff sometimes say that changes are temporary, and we will see how it works after them, and if it prooves wrong we chance back, but nothing went back since i play here.

You obviously never played OF emain or just have no idea what you're talking about.
mids/albs do have easy mode getting to port in. and its only easy because they just get to sit there afk and wait for the porters to port them. hibs on the other hand, DONT have to wait for porters, but they do have to use their brains and run, they dont get to just afk and wait, but its not like they dont get speed while leaving DC, they do.

So its not like hibs get shafted...they dont have to wait for port...they just start running back when they die...mids/albs wait for port before they can start running back. it pretty much evens itself out in the end and again this is WHY emain was gold back in the day.

So this suggests taking original delayed port timer for Albs and Mids to make it fair?

Well.. that's how it was ^^.

I would suggest letting hibs port on a reduced timer (~5mins) to Bolg of Crim. Of course other realms have the same timer (~5mins).

if the hib frontier is the main rvr area then yes you do need the port timer for albs and mids...it balances itself out as i have said.

Hibs die = /rele to DC, running out of DC, getting speed, running to emain. *notice no "wait for port*

Mids die = /rele, wait for port, emain

Albs die = /rele, wait for port, emain

In the end it evens out the amount of time each realm has to wait until they get back into RvR emain action. Now it doesnt have to be 100% this way...you can allow hibs to port somewhere closer, but in the end you just have to make sure each realm is balanced in the death/return to emain time.

If hib runs they can't rebuff in that time. That adds to the return time.

so the 5 mins wait ain't on EVERY SINGLE death (QQ)

In regards to hib's return time:

1st - they dont have to port...if a mid or alb grp /rele right as the porters port they have to wait a FULL 5 minutes. hib grp with spd 5 can def get back to emain faster then them, even after rebuffing...maybe a retarded pug grp will waste more time rebuffing, but thats their fault.

if mid/albs /rele and have to wait full 5 mins hib 8 man grp will get back first.

if mid/albs /rele and have to wait 2.5 mins, hib 8 man grp will get back around same time/

if mid albs /rele and dont have to wait at all obviously theyll get back first...but again this balances itself out due to the fact that hibs grps have a chance of getting back earlier if alb/mid have to wait the full 5mins

2nd - hibs don't have a single entrance/exit milegate that they have to pass through to get to emain...alb and mid both have a MG to pass through.

3rd - even the hib solo'ers receive a speed buff from the tree guy when leaving DC so its not like they are running at normal speed back to emain.

4th - hibs know that getting to emain = rvr/kills...motivation for running their asses their. if we are talking about a solo hib stealther...they get to camp MPK, MMG and they also get to camp APK, AMG. albs and mids have to run all the way to DC WITHOUT speed if they want to camp HPK (which most will RARELY do), and they have no HMG to camp. even though 2 of the 3 realms are pretty much equal and 1 isnt...it still balances out in the end.

i sure as hell don't want to see some server named "war of the realms" have more then half the amount of people as uthgard online...i wanna see uthgard dominate the list...i wanna see uthgard be the #1 free daoc server by miles...i wanna see uthgard be the Origins that mythic wish they would have made a long time ago. I really do believe it can be done. I never expected to find a server with a staff so dedicated...i expected free daoc servers to be a bunch of "insta level 50 servers" and unfortunately that doesnt stay fun for very long....uthgard proved all of my expectations wrong...keep an open mind devs....

If the current rvr map/situation doesnt work out...watch old rvr videos of 8 man grps and solo stealthers from back in the emain days...im almost positive just watching videos of it will bring back some sort of spark inside you...hell i posted a video earlier of 8 man rvr in emain ( http://files.filefront.com/Desolateavi/ ... einfo.html )...i dont think its physically possible for a DAoC vet to watch that and not be envious...

Mids/Albs would have to buff up in their telekeep after their port aswell. Same thing really.

Anyway what I'd like to know is if there's any chance of this happening?
Blue has been discussing with us over the matter and thanks to him for that but if staff say: "sorry it's never gonna happen", we're pretty much just wasting our time talking about it.
I think everyone knows everyone's arguments. Maybe time for an (ingame) poll? Idea

I said earlier that running from DL to Emain took 11/12 minutes, this timing included buffing. On speed 6 it is actually faster to run, than to wait 10 mins for port. I think the soloer's forget that you can "bounce" between keeps for hastener speed while running to emain.

in the 3 years that i played daoc, buffs never carried over through the teleport. so again buffs would be applied once alb or mid teleports into emain at their PK....so NO alb/mid WOULDNT buff while waiting for the teleport.

and again why is it you think buffing is so time consuming? buffing is probably the simplest thing known to man...it takes what a minute...if that?? i dunno what groups you are running with but if buffing takes longer then that, then you sir are probably in some crappy pug and you should probably find another group to run with...

you're making it out to seem like buffing your grp is the greatest challenge in DAoC and takes 15 minutes lol

hell if you think the amount of time spent buffing is a big deal...what do you have to say about the amount of time it takes to level to 50 solo lol?

regarding wheelchairs comments...for the hib solo'ers...time how long it takes a solo hib with the tree speed buff to run from their outpost bind spot to right before emain and make the tree speed buff from the outpost that amount of time...that way theyll receive spd the full time it takes to get to emain, and make things a lil easier on them by not forcing them to bounce between the keeps to get the speed buff...since apparently we feel so sorry for the hibs and need to make their lives easier even though the proposed implementation is pretty fair as is.
