dex is currently the only way to increase your castspeed on uthgard. yepp.
---

melee got:
qui(on s/c)
d/q (buff/charge)
aug qui (ra)
haste (buff/charge)
cele (mid)

casters got:
dex (on s/c)
d/q (buff/charge)
aug dex (ra)

---

pre-toa casters(old ra´s):
got mastery of art (+%based castspeed as ra)

toa casters (new ra´s)
got +%castspeed on armor(along with additional 25 dex you can put on the armor)

uth casters (new ra´s - no toa)
got neither. another reason why uth is so tank heavy ^^

was ranting about the lack of castspeed cause of the custom-server settings in the german section(smth like 22 pages long).
want to be livelike ? at no time the live servers had a setting like this. you always got access to any form of +% castspeed (at some dark age even got armor castspeed+moa^^).

as a tank the faster you swing the less damage you do - your dps goes up anyways.
as caster you do the same damage but faster -> resulting in a massive dps gain.

currently a bm/merc/zerker outdamages any caster in a 8v8 fight unless you play your caster reckless (and die 10sec later or at least eat a full bar of healer mana).

casters are playable - but currently suffer from the lack of castspeed.
it´s not that bad as a utility caster (eld/cabby/sorc/sm) but truly hurts the dps casters (menta/wizz/rm).

every tank got the option to swing at capspeed - just need a charge.
as caster you have to invest heavy (20 ra points+) to even get to a "acceptable" castspeed.

To what extent? Someone knows how the formula is implemented on Uthgard?

You can go on and compare melee swing speed to casters, but just remember, Qui may increase your swing speed, but your overall dps will be the same. Unlike a caster , whos dps would go up as your cast speed goes up. Remember, this is a classic server, not Rapid fire casting like live has become. And if we go to 1.65 old RAs, will they remove the 25% toa bonus to buffs, will they keep charges or use this to remove stat charges ? All the dex you could end up losing, will prob not equal 15% cast speed and if it does a little, have fun spending all those points into it to get it lol.

I can't believe people hate casters so much, everytime some caster asks for much needed buff (or do you think casters are fine now?) there is always some doomsayer crying dark age of castalot.

Guess what, caster are strong in TOA, but not just because of casting speed, it's combination of casting speed, resist pierge, spell damage, stat overcap and several masterlevels - THAT is toa caster, not caster with 10% casting speed.

your DPS with increased quickness will be slightly higher because you will benefit from slower delays

when you hit with melee you have a base damage done by your weapon and one damage done by your style... you have to add growrate in the formula.

the damage done by your weapon is fix, your damage done by style is modified by your swing speed.

so if you hit unstyled your damage with a X2 speed your damage will be X2.

but the damage done by your style will not be increased.

not clear but i have to go ++

Ok, let's try the same question said differently:
How 1 dex point does affect the cast speed?

Do not see this post as a desperate attempt to bring this thread back on topic, but rather as a new hope for people who use forums to ask questions. :p

Q: I have heard a lot of questions and speculation about the Quickness stat, so was wondering if I could get a true answer in the Grab Bag?

We know that the higher your Quickness is, the faster your swing speed is. However, does this reduce "frontload" damage? If so, could you give us a good explanation on how this works? Also, do Realm Abilities such as "Mastery of Arms" and ToA bonuses to melee speed do the same?

A: I went to the Code Warrior for the answer to this one. If I understand "frontload" damage correctly, he's asking about the correlation between DPS and actual speed - slow weapons hitting slower but for more damage. Quickness does affect this; it can reduce the weapon's speed by up to 40%, and any Quickness over 250 has no effect. Mastery of Arms and TOA bonuses also reduce weapon speed by what's listed in their delve.

Increasing your Quickness decreases your swing time - style damage, however, is based on your swing time. Therefore by decreasing your swing time, you also decrease your style damage, thus reducing frontloading. Over time, increasing your swing speed adds more damage because the non-style damage comes faster while the style damage remains the same, however each individual hit will do less damage.

I got a little confused by this, but it sounds like quickness only reduces your style damage, not base damage. If im right, is that how it works on uthgard. And also i know for a fact on my bow, if i reduce my qui only, and test fire. My actual damage goes up because im firing slower, but if the above is currect. Shouldnt my bow damage be base at 5.5 spd, not 3.4 ? But maybe i read that wrong.

Bow-Speed doesn´t use quickness like swing-speed, as i know, bow-speed uses dexterity.

quickness for melee archery Xbow
dex for casting speed

with bow, your dex increase damage.
bow is not affected by haste where it does for melee only.
