I agree on the fact that is kinda stupid argue about the utility of CCs on a RvR game (which should be obvious..), but "people" aren't the ones who will decide nor vote about those gameplay things.. even if anyone kinda think that could do it. I guess that if you checked their forums, you probably saw my thread about Mez, and almost everyone that is against it (or CCs) usually doesn't bring much concrete arguments than "i don't want to stand still doing nothing for 2 minutes" which everyone know that its not the point of CCs and actually it has never been neither a matter of minutes (usually not more than 40sec) on DAoC due to the many factors which reduce all CC durations (resist, RAs, AE ranges, etc) and not even counting on all perks/abilities to avoid/cure them, so i guess that the CU Staff will be smart enough to understand how "small-minded" these people are on the RvR context, thus end up ignoring them/giving them some good motivation to keep hard CCs. @Uth2.0: There will be again the teleport from the border keep to the Ninjable Keep like last days of Uth 1.0? (Eras/Nott/Crim - or maybe Beno/Bled/Crau) There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

@Austerim your gif's are "EPIC" ![]() @Caemma & Co. the days of hard cc's and small men ganking/roaming grp's (solo too) are end ... new on-line mmo players don't like it, every new game is the same: "a massive zerg going over another massive zerg pressing 2/3 buttons (utimate/elite & bla bla bla)" for exemple GW2 and TESO, seem to me the exact same thing on the pvp/wvw/rvr aspect ... and about pve, instanced doungeons to farm over and over all day long ... every game is the same, i'am not trying nothing new anymore will w8 for Uthgard 2.0 and continue play Minecraft or some cool Xbox while w8ing ![]() cya soon (i hope) realac0 ---------- UTHGARD 1.0 ------------

Thank you for the news. Was along the lines of what I expected, and I am personally glad you are skipping a few time-consuming development bits and pieces in order to move to a launch date before we grow old and die.
I still want to emphasize that I think you should just launch, especially if you are intending to launch a beta. In a beta you would be allowed to mess with the server constantly anyways. Other than that, I hope that you do not wipe the database for the beta launch - I would like to see my chars again and play around with them on old RA's in the beta ![]() Do your best, that is all we can hope for. Yeh this is a shame, many of the players over there seem to want easy, instant access flexible group size grouping, little to no CC, structure sieges with PvDoor that last days - basically perma zerg warfare where bringing more numbers is more or less guaranteed to win any combat, all for the sake of the 'MMO' terminology. Honestly this is where DAoC got it right for me, with smaller guilds and groups that form alliances and cooperate on occasion for the large scale events, instead of massive 'gaming community' guilds that bring hundreds of players to be able to do absolutely everything themselves, give themselves a bunch of 'awards', then move on to the next MMO. The topics on socialization, sieges and CC are the reason I'm reluctant to fork out $ for alpha. -Nugusta |

Funny is Uthgard was shut down specifically so the mods could work on SI, and now bringing it back without SI. Interesting.
This has been asked repeatedly since at least 2013 when the mods first announced Old RA. I am curious as well. I spent hours of my time back then scouring google and in the See Hidden thread posted the old equation they used post See Hidden Nerf which equaled I think 900 units for a level 50 spotting a level 50.

I don't know what server you played on back on live but "perma zerg warfare" is exactly what Merlin was. Mid ran things because they had the numbers. Conquest/Combine were seen as the main "elite" guilds there and they would roll over you with 5+ full groups when Albion could field maybe 2-3 tops, then go on the VN boards and go on and on and on about how elite and amazing they were. So I am curious what server you played on near launch.

I played EU Excalibur. Sure there were unorganized zerg guilds still but I'd say the majority of guilds quickly focused on FG warfare and came together for Relic Raids. In many MMOs these days you get large 'hardcore' gaming communities come to games with hundreds of players and claim accolades for themselves and simply dominate through sheer numbers and can do all these large scale events by themselves. I never experienced that myself, or atleast as much, in older MMOs. At least with DAoC you had mezz to better be able to deal with the larger groups of players - on the CU boards many vocal players want to get rid of any CC that lasts more than 10-20 seconds.

Spoken like a true random.. there was actually ALOT of 8v8 on merlin, ofc zergs happend coz the population was 3000+ at some points. Had 8v8 guilds like The Guardians, MIRA, QQ, Angri Elves, The dark Arcane etc.. even Lagged Again moved there on hib and run a 8 man group. - Honey Badgers

The problem with CU is how many people are against things "like CC" which make RvR skill based and not just a numbers game.

I was not a random, I was guilded the entire time I played back in Dec 2001-Jan 2003 when I cancelled my DAOC subscription. Was one of the first 50s in my first guild so I changed guilds to one with more 50s, called Divine. We spent countless hours in Emain. The zerging wasn't a rare thing, emain was a constant, ceaseless, endless zerg. It would die down after 11 pm on weekdays but even then since Mid had the numbers they would still outnumber you. You fielded ONE 8 man? Well mid would field 3, zerg you down, /emote your dead body, take screenshots, post them to VNboards, and brag about how elite they were and how they "ran the server" Got so bad I knew alb guilds that deleted their toons and rerolled midgard to be on the winning team. Cruell the GM of M.Y.T.H. was big on mid merlin at the time even he admits it was like this. This is the main reason I went stealth only and completely avoided visi RvR before I quit. If after January 2003 there was a nice 8 man scene I will take your word for it because I had cancelled my account at that point.

Divine? No wonder you only encountered zergs, there was plenty of 8v8 on Merlin, you havent done it is most likely because of the guild you were a part of.
