Making the RR gap smaller.

Lo all, this idea originated from the "A New Way to get RPs" thread. I think it could help lower RR players compete with the sometimes immense RR gap between them and other players/groups.
It's just an idea really, feel free to discuss! |

getting to rank 4 is alrdy covered by BGs and most do not have a gap in the bgs, and when you get to 50 at rr4, that should be enough pts to have some chance vs higher rank, if you spend your realm points smart. Like instead of getting purge 2, get purge 1 and learn to time your purge. And this is kinda unfair to those who worked hard for there rank 5 and 6 without a bonus, even if that bonus you suggest is small.

In my opinion this idea will not give much advantage: Because of the strong exponential growth in need of realm points towards higher realm ranks the bonusses your suggested will not be of much help. Of course on the other hand it wont hurt much for the same reason. I still do not like it because I think that gaining realm ranks should not be too easy. Nevertheless the principle idea of reducing the gap is not bad. I remember that Mythic once introduced a bonus for low-RR-players killing high-RR-players and a malus vice versa. So I searched through the patch notes and found the following in Patch 1.72: "Realm Point Earning Changes Due to player feedback, we have made the following changes to the realm point earning system to lessen the penalty against higher realm rank players and to provide a bonus for lower realm rank players. - The amount of realm points received for killing someone of lower realm rank/level than you has been increased significantly. - If you are of a lower realm rank/level than the player you killed, you will now receive more realm points than you would if you killed a player with an equal or lower realm rank/level. - Note that the above are based on a sliding scale, the difference between the two realm rank/levels determines the amount of realm points earned. For example: A realm rank 9 player killing a realm rank 2 player will make fewer realm points than when killing a realm rank 8 player. Or conversely, a realm rank 3 player killing a realm rank 8 player will make considerably more realm points than when killing a realm rank 5 player." Maybe we can implement something like that (if it has not been implemented yet, that is). |

I agree that the RR advantage is too strong right now and the RP-bonus-for-low-RR could be a small solution while we play in this realm-rank-wise (and otherwise) unbalanced NF-RA setup.
Why ToA-RAs advance high RR groups more than old RAs do:

Have you ever thought about how the system is working? It's exactly like you described it. The difference to your thought is that everyone gets the same amount of realmpoints and the higher your realmrank raises, the more realmpoints you need for the next level. You even get more realmpoints for killing high-rr players.
![]() (Graph by www.daocpedia.eu) If we would bring your wish into the game, the gap would still be there, but newcomers would even have to work harder for sticking up with old players. |
|
Well, it's not my wish, it's just an idea like I said. I really don't see how newcomers would have to work harder than they have to do now though.
Of course I know how the RRs are scaling... I'm an end-RvR player you know, unlike 70% of the server's population. ![]() |

On Uthgard high-RR players are worth more RPs.
I think on live you get an extra bonus for the difference. On Uthgard a RR7 is worth more than RR3 but a RR5 and a RR3 get the same when killing those RR7 - the difference is not important. Uthgard till 2003!

omg why ppl flame all the time about realm rank? realm rank is only 1 part... a party of rr 11l who dont know how to play cant kill a party of rr5l who know how to play... comm'on get serius guys...

agree Smart RA choices on top of a smart game play can go alot farther then someone with a high RR with poor choices of RAs and a poor game play style. Now someone with a lower rr with a good play style can preform as good as a high rr with poor game play style, only diffrence is the low rr gains more RPs if he/she wins. |
|
..Do have to point out that the majority of high RR players on Uthgard don't play all that bad. ![]() |
|
Not all of them, but i have ran into my share of high ranked stealthers, who make poor choices. And no im not a full melee ranger or have high Physical Defense... yet.
|
|
Hmmm...
You forget that the RP's were increased a lot from where I started e.g. I remember times when rr5 was pretty high and rr8 seemed to be unreachable. Even if u are unskilled u can reach RR6-9 with zerging/ganking etc. Being High RR doesnt make u win at all... |
|
It's not a bad idea to increase RP under 5L,'caus when we see graphic, you see that you earn nothing under this RR.Good thing to do is to increase RP when players played together.Too much players play only with friends or guildmate.Allready seen half guild grp runing with 3/4 players screaming LFG at Emain portal keep.Something like +10RP/kill/member can be nice.
|
|
that is a community problem and not a game design problem giving more rps/grp member would be bad imo as it would encourage more zerging and farming at low peak hours |
|
WTF... the graph says nothing about how many RPs you earn at what RR but how many you need to reach a certain RR. ![]()
I found the following things in the patch notes of Patch 1.49: "- Groups now get more Realm Points when killing other players. A full group of 8 people gets a 100% bonus - 12.5% per person in the group. - The range that Realm Points are awarded for group members has been doubled from 4000 to 8000 units." If this has not been implemented yet I suggest to do so. Else there already is a bonus for inviting people into your group for RvR. |
