Is thane just a mistake at this patch level?

I noticed there are a ton of buffs missing in uthgards version of the thane. No increased speed/range dd's no doom hammer no spell/dd on melee styles. IM surprised they aloud the recastable dd version of thane. still on the old HEALER WS/HP table. I love hybrids. and the idea of a tank mage makes me ::swoon:: but i went through years of hardship (mostly becuase of stigma) the first time around playing the old school thane.. am I about to walk into the same crap again?

Their self buff makes them pretty strong solo, though solo'ing with a visible and slow class is definitely not for everyone (can't hide / flee, but you also have to hope other solo classes want to fight you). They are great in zergs and keep defense, definitely their strongest point. They are more than fine in small groups if purge is up or if you have the initiative. They are weak in 8vs8 where fights last longer, which makes the lack of Determination problematic (and their small power poll too, to a lesser extend).

So really it depends on what you plan to do. You can have fun as a Thane, but people won't take you for 8vs8.

I'm torn man. I love everything about the the thane. but this version is lacking all the fun toys AND i really want to group more. and even me with all my love for the thane, I cant say with a strait face that they are a good (best)group slot choice this patch. hell even vale walkers are monsters compared to thanes.

Thanes are what they are and that will never change on uthgard no matter how much good it would do to diversify grouping.

The class idea is great but at this patch you will have a hard time finding good groups to run with as they prefer their cookie cutter builds.

Personally, i play what i want and to hell with it. :)

so wait. thane will be accepted in everything except 8v8. So all i gota do is look for a rvr guild that doesnt 8v8. does that exsist?

I played VW through SI and ToA and I've been thinking a lot about that. In my opinion this was only true because of buffbots. Valewalkers are much less interesting on Uthgard where they probably can't have acuity and definitely can't have red haste (which makes their somewhat unreliable side chain even less reliable). Easy access to demez and group purge definitely help VW though.

There's a strong mindset around 8v8 currently, but I believe it will slowly die, with 3000+ players during prime time I don't think it'll be as prevalent as many people think. Hell even on my ~1200 pop server is was pretty difficult to have some 8v8 action.

The PvE was a blast with a Thane you'll see, you get to join bomb groups at lv 35+ (shaman pulls and you regroup with your DDs), that's fun :p

I'm reserving my Thane for Relic/Keep take. I usually just die first and watch everyone else fight.

No, Valkyns can only be Warrior, Zerk, and Savage.

How is weaponskill on a Thane. Do you hit any of the defensive classes at all?
Thats my largest concern making a Thane, because i know i would solo on him from time to time.

Can i also ask how you are doing solo vs other classes. If you have done any?

Even with the self buff It's still lower than a Warrior's weaponskill. My spec is a little awkward, 44 Weapon 50 SC 35 Shield, and I have 1395 WS (+11 weapon, RR2, 293 Str).

Minstrels are pretty easy to beat but maybe that's because most of them play poorly, Infiltrators are quit difficult but should get much better at a higher rank, Sorcerers and Theurgists are very difficult to catch. These are the only solo classes I can find.

Yeah Thane weapon skill is a bad joke. In my experience 50weapon and high strength just isn't worth it because all thats going to do is bring your damage to a mediocre level. the secret vrs high weapon skill/defense classes is to use your storm calling and your ability to defend.
