why did you choose Blunt over piercing?
Not too hard to fast switch shield manually?

Blunt is neutral to mid, and has slower weapon speed than pierce, also your weaponskill will always be higher with blunt or slash since they are pure strength and not str+dex/2. Thrust hits chain really well, but sometimes you aren't always able to just sit on the squishy backline and you have to sit on tank trains, in which case they are resistant to thrust (mid zerk+savage). Going crush was just so I didn't have to pick and choose targets on mid based on weapon type, and I wasn't really worried about alb, but being able to hit armsman will be nice for the random tank 8v8s we might see. I imagine most successful alb groups will be casters, so it would be neutral regardless of weapon type.

Commenting on your temp:

Why did you go for +11 Parry? That is only useful in these 1on1 situations when you encounter your enemy up front while dual-wielding.

I myself went for +0 Parry but instead got +11 shield to improve the hit-rate of slam and the block rate while guarding.

Commenting on your spec:

Looks solid. I personally would always use either Blades or Piercing due to the snide snare. There is nothing similar in blunt line.

Plus I would lower weapon to 36 (aiming for RR5 which should be doable pretty quick) and raise Parry but this is only a minor issue.

To sum things up:

In my opinion you rob yourself a bit of utility because of +11 Parry instead of +11 Shield and because of not using either Blades or Piercing.

Good itemset, except for the use of book of arcane dealings. Your actual utility drops to about 40 because you overcap resists. The epic quest jewel is a good alternative.

You lost me at "I would go blades or piercing due to side snare" - I don't even put weapon styles on my bar because I use 100% CD styles, rear style in CD works just fine for a snare, in fact behind snare is easier to land than a side snare due to people attempting to flee.

That being side I understand the idea behind going 11 shield over parry, but when I am duel wielding (which is what I do 99% of the time in RvR) that utility on items will help me none at all whereas I could still /face on tank trains and be mitigating some damage initially or continuing to dps the focus target while pivoting around them keeping the tank in my frontal area in the hope of parrying as well.

I plan to be killing dragon before RR5 and will respec accordingly, until that time the lower composite weapon skill would only hurt me to get to that point. Funny that you would lower your weapon skill in favor of parry, but waste utility in your SC on shield instead of parry? Can you make up your mind :) To parry or not to parry?...that is the question.

edit: It should be noted that on my SC I have +shield on my shield that I swap in so that I gain some more shield skill when shield comes out, but I really see no point in wasting 8-11 points on +shield when you may not even be the one slamming 100% of the time (obviously situational). I am running in a tank setup with Hero who spams Annihilate and/or Valewalker who also has a back stun that rivals that of Slam, so for me it's not a guaranteed thing to be slamming when it's already built into the other classes I play with mains dps rotation. In the future when money allows I will obviously have a full MP SC suit that can max everything, including those skills which may only be used infrequently.

Yep, it had crossed my mind at the time, didn't really want to fuss with it over 4 utility, and resists are always more heavily weighted when doing SC over stats. Yes in the end over capping 2% on matter/cold does bring the books utility down, I was aware, its unfortunate hib has so few options for jewels that melee have to use a jewel with +power on it for a template item.

Now this is where you lost me, you need to further explain this. :) For I never stated to lower weapon skill in favor of parry.

Thank you for the explanation. :)

It all depends on playstyle:

When you are running in a fixed tank group then things can be considered from a different point of view. In this case specialization actually is preferable which is what you are doing.

However from my point of view being not part of a fixed tank group I prefer a more flexible spec and template, including such things as side snare and guard --- but as said before this is depending on the playstyle. :)

By speccing for RR5, while you are only RR1-4 you are losing weapon skill because you will not be at optimal composite weapon spec. This is why most people go 39 initially, then respec as they gain RRs (+1 @ RR2, +2 @ RR3 so that they always have composite 50-51 weapon spec). By doing this all you gain is more parry (or shield I guess??) because you will already have 50 CD, so by opting for less into weapon you are effectively trading more parry or shield for less weaponskill. Even assuming you are 2L0 by 50 you will be sitting @ 36+12 for your weapon line. To give you an example of this, when I lose +4 blunts I lose 90 weaponskill (I go from 38+12 to 38+8... no other stats are lost that effect WS). Hopefully this was clear, I would recommend going 38-39 in your weapon, unless you think 3L0 is going to be quick, and 37 would be optimal as well, but by no means will RR5 be quick and easy and worth not having composite 50-51. To each their own though :).

Now I gotcha! :)

Actually I thought about exactly the same problem. I came to the conclusion that aiming for RR 5 will likely prove to be the best spec in regard to the non-availability of RR respect stones.

On the other hand you are right regarding the weapon skill and that for lowering Piercing I only gain more Parry which again I myself stated to be of less importance.

So the logical conclusion for me now is to indeed aim for RR 3 which leaves me at 50 CD / 42 Shield / 38 Piercing / 10 Parry.

(Ty Zobz)

You cap everything except :
Loose 1 qui/1 body/6 heat/1 crush/1 energy

Hey guys,

i like to help other people at finishing some good templates and i often find a great diversity on items in those templates, but these BM templates tend to always use the same basic setup?

2 x Warshadow Bracers/ 2 x Glimmer Spirit Band / DF Neck / DF Belt / Book of Arcane Dealings and Quest Cloak...

If we take Moras SpellCalculator we get 371,7 base value with those items. But some resis are overcaping so lets try to optimize that. After some calculations the best base value available was 377,9 (no dragon / worm items of course). That would be Warshadow Bracer / Glimmershade Bracer / Glimmer Spirit Band / Revelin's Ring / DF Neck / DF Belt / Blademaster's Jewel and Quest Cloak. Its even cheaper because 2 of this 3 new items are from Quests.

Another mistake i often see is that people tend to give different resis and stats the same value. It may look way better if you got all of you resists between 24% and 26%, and your stats between +70 and +75 but in terms of min/max templates you have to choose proper. For Hibernia the least important stat is heat resist so don't sacrifice 2% slash and 2% cold to 4% heat, its not worth it.

This resistance list is pretty accurate for Uthgard 2.0. As you can see only a firewizz (and maybe some procs) will do heat dmg, so every other stat is more important.

Based on those information above i did a 99% / 2 MP BM template.

- +75 on all stats, +200 hp, +11 weapon / cd/ parry and +26% at all resists except heat
- all items overloaded at 5.0 or 5.5 points
- works with all types of weapons because all +weapon comes through spellcrafting so you can change it as you like
- only cheap / easy to get items (2xDF, 3xQuest, 3xSH)
- if switching to 100% shield, gain +6shield and only lose 4cd and 7%heat
