Let me start by saying that I am new to Uthgard after years of break from live servers. I'm trying to get back on my feet as quick as possible :?

I rolled a bard out of the box and enjoy it fully. However, I am looking for a class which I can play solo from time-to-time, and as I plan on making the bard my main, I am wanting to gear my next towards farming.

I have nerrowed it down to chanter or animist and I'm leaning more towards animist.

Here is my question: Of the two, which class has highest probability if making money at the end game, and (part two) which spec line would you use.

Thank you in advance, and happy hunting!

I do not play hib, but what I say should be viable for all three realms...

The most money you'll make from high end pve raids, like Prince-,Legion-,Dragon-,Summoners Hall-Raids and so on... and not from killing mobs solo for money and salvage stuff.

And for these raids a bard is vital.

Of course, there will be times, where you do not find a group, then a nice solo toon would be nice - cant help you much with this. I both saw solo ani and ench in df killing quite some mobs - until I killed em :-)

Or you could raise a crafter in those times with no group.

I had read that a lot of money could be made through end game grouping.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm ready to profit from crafting ATM. It was my understanding that I would need the overhead to fund the craft as well as a house so that I can sell and profit.

Is crafting that profitable that it would over shadow solo/duo farming?

You wont make too much money with crafting, as its time consuming, many competitors with low prices and yes, you need a house in starting zone to be able to sell stuff well, but I used my crafter to be able to salvage drops while exping - also buying seals and drops from others - this made me some good starter money. And I can repair my armor myself :-)

So the hint to make a crafter was not to make money from day one, but to possibly fill the time, when there is no action - you cant solo that well with bard. Also, to get a tailor to a few hundred skill points isnt that expensive - maybe you get a few gold in TNN from veterans to get you started.

Tailor would be the cheapest crafter - but inform beforehand about the armor situation on hib. On Albion, most Classes need Chain - but Armorcrafter needs a Tailor for linings, so my choice to raise an Armorcrafter as first toon wasnt that wise :-) But I think on hib a tailor can do studded, which most chars use? dunno

Btw, we had several discussions on alb forum about farming mobs for pure money - the statement is.. not worth it, as droprate was nerfed here on server.

So at this point in the shards life, gaining money by farming mobs for drops / coin is pretty much a dead end effort all together?

And by "nerfed" or "destroyed" they surely mean "Adjusted downward from wildly inaccurate, untested or incorrect rates" to "a reasonable baseline or validated droprates based on data gathering"

Well, I won ´t open a new discussion about loot table, but leperechaun droprate for staff i´s a joke for example and has nerfed here so much it ´s useless to farm these Mobs any further. I farmed these Mobs over and over at live Server and there was a higher droprate at live Servers.
But nevermind, Dirtmyind is right, doing pve raids is much more effective for earning money, especially if you ´re a good leader on your own and have ppl up that support you. But it ´s not wrong to have a leg. tailor with leg. salvage skills too, when nothing is going on you can farm mobs as well.

Give me ample logs of kills, I'll adjust it accordingly (assuming there is no patch note that says "increased drop rate of monsters in xyz zone or monster xyz")

I had my pally parked on a mob for 6 months loggin him every 45-60 mins while playing other chars and some days the mob was not up AT ALL (I dont play 24h day but I was playing some hours/day when this happend)

at the end I had to remake my mins temp because this mob only had 1 drop = bag of coins :wall:

the mob is Kaq and was reported to be bugged but as always happens when albs report something bugged there was no answer

Its quite off topic, but we camped Kaq, too for quite a while for the reaver belt... killed him lots of times... no drop except money.

I had the same question about a month ago when I discovered Uthgard. I went Animist. I have not spent a copper on anything but alchemy training (which I have over 700 skill level atm) and my house lot, which cost me 300g. Now I am grinding toward 1 platinum = 1000 gold for the cottage deed I need to start selling water breathing pots and dyes. I played DAoC years ago, so I am accustomed to the brutalizing amount of time everything takes without the amenities that a horse and gold can afford. Good luck!

You'll want the animist, the Enchanter -can- farm solo but not at as good at rate as the animist. With the proper RAs though both can really do some insane things. Enchanter though can duo-trio bosses. Animist just farms Reds (low purps) all day everyday. Serenity 4-5 and you're a happy shroomer. Use the bard and get in raids though it'll pay off more. The solo farm bit is just for when you want to be alone or are bored. Tailoring for salvaging (drops are kinda low these days or so it 'feels') not so much for crafting stuff though you could make armor for your animist or enchanter (whichever you choose)

shrouded isles is in the works so solo farming might be all the rage again! Oh and why not solo some mobs that drop important template items, like Orey Eye Ogamist or Sheeroe Hills mobs for bracers!
