Hello fellow Hibbies! I am just coming back after years of being absent from DAoC, and have decided to join Uthgard for that classic feel. I decided to start a Bard, and I am wondering if any of you experienced Bards out there may have any good tips for a noobie. This is the first Bard I have played, and being a healer/buffer seems a little intimidating at first. I am definitely enjoying the server though!

If its your first bard i would suggest you to visit the bgs for some practice. Bards can be a hard class to master and youll need some experience and practice.

For xping keep nurture on your level and rest in regrowth. Maybe less regrowth and more music for bgs. But bgs might be kinda different from 50 rvr. There are groups with no druids so youll have to heal.

RvR wise you won't heal much. Bards are more for rupt and cc and only emergency healers. I mostly heal with am :)

If it can't cast it won't hurt your groupmates :)

A macro like "Srry had lag couldn't get mezz/endu off" could also be helpfull at the beginning :)

If you got more specific questions feel free to ask.

Marialea is a very good source!

if u don't have a good machine or connection id say avoid playing a critical class like bard, almost everyone rely on firts mezz (id say is not the most important on a bard, but most ppl will cry if u dont).

if u have friends or players that play at the same time as u, might be really fun, even a solo bard can be nice for RvR not PvM.

1 friendly guild open to new players is Mystical Knights.

have fun and if u dont... dont be ashamed to choose a new class suitable to ur conditions, this server is awesome!

i'm totally with maria!

just would like to add that or to strengthen your rvr main task:

first mezz, endurance must be on, rupt them

your amnesias (lullabys) are really great in rvr and this is your big advantage point comparing to the other realms mezzer.
learn to use them wise, then you will land your firstmezz with maximum efficiency

have fun playing here on Uthgard and good luck!

hah , awesome xD

well my advice:

read a bard guide

read another bard guide

and read a third bard guide

try to understand them

try to use/practice what you ve learned

this is at least the way i got used to minstrels and learned to play them quite decently in just 1 week (minstrels have kinda equal complex tasks : mechanics )

think we re all just talking bout RvR here
so for PvE a bard as first class is kinda good option
or have you played daoc before?

for RvR bard as first class ,.. mhh i mean ,.. might be a tough way

At what point do I respec to go nurture/music/ rest in regrowth

My 2 copper:

If you are a hardcore player and/or know what you are doing, then bard is a good class. The reason I say this:

You are responsible for first mez. WHich is insanely easy to do since you have an instant long range interupt against sorcs/healers, yet I never see anyone doing this.

You are responsible for backup healing.

You are responsible for demezzing.

You are responsible for endo song, speed song, and in some rare cases, crack song.

You are responsible to interupt.

You are responsible, USUALLY, to drive.

You are likely the first if not 2nd target on every tank assist train due to the huge "KILL MEEEEE" target you carry in your hand.

If you wipe because of MANY reasons, including but not limited to: Lost mez war, lack of healing, lack of endo, lack of interupts, and not SOSing at the right time, it will likely be your fault if it happens on more than one occasion. (This is usually what determines a good bard vs a ****** one)

If you want to open that can of worms, then bard is for you. I played one to RR10L4 on live back in the day on bors, and its fun, but you got to be on top of your game, and not like some of these idiots I see in bgs thinking they are just speedbots.

Any specific realm build that Bards for stick to such as must haves and where we have some flexibility?

More specifically a bard going 43 nurture, 48 music, 16 regrowth or somewhere along those lines.

Also I'm a firbolg bard so will having 20 less dex than the celt bard really hurt me here in classic of with old ra's?

There are some threads about it.

purge -> moc -> sos -> mcl -> dex

then purge3 as soon as you can effort it.
