Hey all, posted something similar in response to another thread but I figured I deserved it's own thread.

Never played DAOC before (was busy with EQ and early WoW) and this seemed like a good opportunity to try it fresh.

I generally prefer rogue/hunter and warlock/necromancer type characters, but the animist looks cool with it's turret pets.

Any advice for a first time player on character selection? I kind of want someone good/decent for everything but won't get wrecked in PvP because everyone on the server has 10 years more experience than me.

Thanks!

Well, depends a bit on the type of RvR you would like to do. If by Rogue type characters you mean actual stealthers, than these are all more or less "solo classes" and difficult to level up as well. If you are thinking more about a dual-wielding damage dealer, than you should look at Blademaster/Mercenary/Berserker. All solid PvP classes for group play and ok for PvE groups.

Necromancer is pretty much a PvE solo class (great for farming) and can do well in Solo PvP, but is rarely invited to groups. Animist is an OK choice - very powerful in PvE, and decent in RvR (great for zerg fights, but not as useful in groups).

If you are looking for classes that you will be able to find groups with in both PvE and PvP and that do not require a good understanding of the game to begin with, solid choices are:

Albion: Cleric, Mercenary, Armsman, maybe Theurgist and Paladin (the latter is great in PvE but at this patch level not super popular for group PvP)

Hibernia: Druid, Hero, Enchanter, Eldritch, Blademaster

Midgard: Shaman, Berserker, Warrior
