Hi there,
I was very excited to find this server. I started playing DAOC shortly after launch and played until the Darkness Rising release. It's been a long time since I started characters completely fresh with no money/items/etc. I've introduced my 2 sons to the game (7 & 11) and we're leveling up a bard/BM/Eld trio. We're all level 6 currently.
It's hard for me to remember all the way back to the original camelot and where to find items/money etc. I've also read that most quests aren't working?
Will trying to complete quests to get decent gear end up being a waste of time due to them being broken/unimplemented? Any tips on how to get some items/money because even buying the merchant equipment is way beyond our means currently. We were barely able to scrap together money to get yellow/blue weapons for our BM.

I really want to thank the people who put this server together! We will be making a donation for sure.

Hi Dredkin and welcome to Uthgard  ,

first to say I´m not the biggest quest loving player of daoc, when I m doing quests, then for the items you can archive there. Most of npc show you what you get after finishing it in advance so you can decide if you take it or not. Quests are nice but not really need to make them. But the staff worked really hard to get them working and afaik most of the old classic quests are implemented on uthgard and most of them work without bugs. The one time drops are implemented too, I think there is a list somewhere in this froum too.

At the beginning it ´s always hard to start without money and decent gear, this is the point where many new players abandon the game because compared to other mmorpgs daoc it pretty hard to start at.

I suggest you to focus your gear and money to your blademaster primary, he is your tank and will take most of the damage from monsters: more damage =more heals= more mana use = more downtime /deaths.

Most of times the Torso gets hitten, so you take care you have good quality item there, after lvl. 10 or 15 till 25? I m not sure you can receive a vest with 100% quality for free at your Trainer in Tir na nogh every 5 Levels.
Legs and arms shall be good equipped too, these parts of armor get hitten often too. Helm, Hands and boots are hit the less.

Earning Money: as soon as you reach Level 15 you can try to get in Darkness Falls when Hibernia has access, the seals you get there can be used to buy better armor and nice jewelery or trade to other players. But beware, there are some grey gankers out there that try to ruin your day, therefore I prefer hunting in the frontiers, not so crowded like Darkness Falls, less other players who kill mobs and there are some nice Drops too. You can go there when you reach Level 17 right side of dl above the hill.
Dungeons are nice for item hunting but a bit dangerous, ist not so easy to escape when something is going wrong, most of time you need a good group and a leader that knows what to do when you enter a dungeon, otherwise it can be frustrating.

Where to get Drops? human monsters drop primary weapons and armor, animals primary jewelery. There is another sticky thread here where you can see which mobs and camps are nice for your level. When you hit lvl. 15 it shall get easier because you ve more optional places for hunting.

If you have futher question I suggest you to ask other Players in game, some of them are nasty trolls but the majority is a nice and helpfully community :-). Good luck and have fun.

regards
Jerrian

Thanks, it's good to know the quests are working. It's at least a way to get some decent items. Thanks for the advice.

I d give you some starter money but I only play alb. Maybe some others help you.

Also check tutorial section. I wrote a beginners guide to get some gear ... it is for alb side but you can translate it at least partly for hib, too.

What I did when I started here was to go to the capital and ask crafters politely if they would craft a set of lvl 15 armor and weapon for me... for free. I simply took the first item they made, no matter what quality it had... and let's face it: you don't need 100% quality items for leveling.
A full set of lvl 15 studded armor cost like... hmmm... this is a wild guess... 2 gold maybe? A lvl 50 toon only needs to kill one mob to get that money.
Having that equipment, I could kill rats in DF who would drop emerald seals. These I traded in for new equipment at the DF merchants. Took a while to get enough seals... but well... this is an mmo... you only play it if you have plenty of time

So my advice for beginners is: be friendly and ask crafters politely. There are tons of helpful people out there who will help you if you ask them personally. Spamming "I need noob stuff" in /broad usually doesn't get you anywhere though.

Whisper Celteen or Sneakeen for some start up money.
That money you use to buy some crafted weapons lvl 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 and lvl 20 + lvl 30 armor, just whisper for first try and some crafters might be kind enough to craft it for the money. The Eld just needs a focus staff for DF seals + lvl30 cloth set which costs maybe 50g.

Welcome to Uthgard and Hibernia! You can also whisper me, usually on Aimia or Cailia for some start up money, and I have a vault full of various items from level 1 to 50 I have been trying to clear out, lets go shopping?

I play after 7pm PST.

Thanks Everyone for your generosity. I will try to look some of you up this evening. I tend to get on around 9-10pm PDT and play my new druid, Skidoo. Have to get the kids down for bed first. :D

All the rats do... even the alb ones. Just been there yesterday. They don't have a very good drop chance... I'd say 1 out of 10... but they actually do drop emerald seals

ps: make sure they don't con grey though

Ah, the memories! :D I remember grinding away at all those camps on my first character in Jan 2002.

Who's up for a fins group in the frontier?! :P

We do fins in Cursed Forest due to their high repop rate but a favorite lately has been the SH xp raids. If you have any questions about my guide please feel free to ask me, i'm in <The Covenant> and you can usually ask anyone if Ayb is on. I'll be happy to lend you a hand. You have a fairly strong trio starting up which should work well for xping and even gathering gear later on. Good luck to you and welcome to Hib-Uthgard

@Dredkin...
Hard to believe that after almost 10 years, I randomly see a post from you while doing a quick search for old times... Remember DC from Ny?

Of course I do. How are you? Can you believe I'm playing with my 2 boys who weren't even born when I started this game? Are you doing well? My old email should still work if you want to catch up, otherwise PM me here.
