Got myself a lil' hunter up to lvl 35. Valkyn, but I have one question..

I'm gonna swap to sword at 40 for the evade stun, and was wondering if Valk was such a bad choice over Dwarf for sword?

I mean, Valk has better evade/block (even if it is only 5% base)/bow damage but Dwarf has a massive +35 con (something like 150hp extra at lvl 50). Am I really gonna have a big disadvantage at 50? I could just invest in toughness 3 to make up for it.. Or am I being paranoid.. :P

Valkyn is fine. I would say it's better than a dwarf even. Just make sure ur qui doesn't go over 250 with selfbuffs (acennan stones r cheap these days).

Hit points gain per level are mostly determined by your class, and not your race. I believe difference on lvl 50 between a valk and a dwarf is around 100 hits(probably less). Now, for a melee hunter(sword mostly), I'd take a dwarf. For hybrid definitely a valk. Both races have much better solo resists than norse or kobold(5% body and 2x melee 2-3%), and valkyn even has 5% cold resist in addition, which is cool because I believe studded is weak to cold(not sure), but then again you probably don't face as much cold dmg as body, so as far as stealth wars are concerned, I believe both dwarf and valk are viable for their great resists :). Personally, my choice is valkyn(I'm currently around your level) and I've talked to many high RR hunters about spec/playstyle etc., conclusion is both races are good :). Still, I like higher dex and will go for spear because of dmg type switch. Also, with the recent nerfs on assassins and rangers, hunter should be a wonderful toon once pet gets fixed :). Btw, whatever spec you go, you can put a dex/qui debuff charge on your shield or any item available, I have found it extremely useful against assassins and shielders on my skald, should be great on hunter as well :). Make sure you are buffed and use your ablative charges(150 value ablative on a cheap few hundred gold Yar cloak that you can switch just for charge, or use bracer of shattering for the 100 value charge). As for sword valk, you can always try, why not? SI will be implemented eventually anyway and you will have easier access to str/con charges than now, so it's cool. Even now I think it should not matter much, since difference in strength between a valkyn and dwarf is not a big issue like for example dwarf-troll difference for any viable class for those races :).

"He was concerned only with the naked fundamentals of life. The warm intimacies of small, kindly things, the sentiments and delicious trivialities that make up so much of civilized men's lives were meaningless to him. A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs. Bloodshed and violence and savagery were the natural elements of the life Conan knew; he could not, and would never, understand the little things that are so dear to civilized men and women."

Thanks for the advice lads. Helpful! I like your style with the d/q debuff, definetally gonna do that on my shield. Think ill give sword Valk a shot at 40 still, if it sucks it doesn't mean i can swap back to spear!
