I agree that the drop rate is supposed to be low, the best gear shouldn't just be handed out to anyone that doesn't like working for it. Just keep at it and you will get it eventually.

I might be spiraling the thread in a different direction now and/or be influenced by how modern day MMO's function. But let's be real, its not fun in any way shape or form to 'work at it' if that directly means: Grinding easy as hell mobs over and over again. Whether the drop rate reflects the old version or not, this argument just does not sit well with how games work today. You expect dynamic and difficult encounters associated with 'hard work', not repetitive grind. If a guy gets lucky, he might get this ring within the first hour, otherwise it will take him days - that's really not fun for anyone, whereas a difficult to beat ecounter is. Anyway, has nothing to do with this thread, just my 2cent. I do however believe that the drop change might be too low, also compared to the old live version. ***GM of <Kattegat> (Danish/Nordic guild)***

"Modern MMOs" miss one particular thing though, and that is the sandbox aspect of DAoC.
No items are soulbound, you can trade every single piece of gear. Economy is completely player-driven. I agree, "Modern MMOs" don't have those grindy low-droprate worlddrops anymore (or at least nobody needs them that bad compared to DAoC), because you would have no other choice then to farm it. In DAoC however, you can decide on multiple things. Don't want to farm that ring because you hate Malmo? Farm other jewelry and try to trade. Don't want to farm specific items at all? Go farm salvage loot and make money for buying the drop in the housing zone. People always focus on the "one and only optimal way" to get to their goal, that's what "Modern MMOs" teach them. Everybody smashes their head against the wall of farming the one particular drop. But people have found it, and people are selling it for a reasonable price. Maybe you found jewelry during leveling as well by being terribly lucky? BoI, Flame Wrought Belt, Vial of Fetid Bog Water, Etched Ice Bracer, Alexandrite Ring, just to name a few. Use the sandbox to your advantage. Know your drops and what they're worth, and invest your time wisely. Don't like an items droprate? Farm something else and deal with it. |

Solid response, probably better than mine to be frank ![]() Nevertheless, I think it is worth investigating whether the drop rate is in fact too low or not. ***GM of <Kattegat> (Danish/Nordic guild)***

The drop rate being wonky is one thing.
but crying about having to grind in daoc is... well silly |

I, too, require Flame Wrought Ring and would greatly appreciate them.

Yes, I agree that modern MMO's dont function this way...but this isnt a modern MMO. It is purposefully set up to be a Classic DAoC server. If people are looking for a modern MMO experience, then perhaps they shouldn't play on a server that's purpose is to literally not be a modern MMO. |

It's super low, I'd argue it's lower than 1% even. On uthgard 1.0 we've killed thousands and thousands of those mobs, I've seen only one drop in 3 years. Some other people did get lucky though. In beta the drop rate was much better, I'd reckon around 2% on average. Now it's kinda ****** again, but people are getting it so it's not impossible to get. And no, you don't need two of those in melee templates. It is what it is.
