Welcome to the server.

For your first class I would not recommend a stealther. The healer and shaman are good for getting groups but you might also want to make a character for when you can't find a group.

A summoning spiritmaster is kind of boring with the downtime and probably has little use in pvp but he is a pretty good pve class. He would also be a good first character since he doesnt require great gear either.

I think you'll be unhappy with a stealther as your first/main. They are expensive to gear and not really wanted in leveling. If you hate casters then I would suggest a skald.

Being a Detroit native and fan, I may look for my information from someone else

I have a buddy who is going to play with me(he wants to do Skald) so I will probably do something like a damage dealer to speed up the processs.

If your buddy rolls a skald, you should consider doing a shaman - great duo, overall (buffs, heals, resist, endurance reg, etc).

Over all you have SPEED - which is all you need to have some fun.

besides, shaman + skald is one of the best combos for everything, leveling, farming and duo RvR (at least in the BGs)

Just my 2 peneth.

I don't really hold with the it is easy to get a group with a Sham or a Healer. My Sham made it to 10 before he got a group. Admitedly he did get a couple of easy group in DF. The last being with a Bonedances and a Healer! (He is now 14) - So it may get better later on (I do like Shams - back in the old days my main was a Sham until my guild needed a Warrior for guild hunts).

Sticking to the it's NOT easy to get a grp as a Sham. It does not suprise me. A group (PvE) is really good with a Sham, a Pac healer and lots of tanks (I include Bezerkers, Thanes, Savages and Skalds as tanks). So the group has more space for Tanks and damgae dealers so it is easier to group them, imho.

As a Sham/Healer I quite like Shadowblades. The seem to have a good damage output, it would be nice if they let the tanks pick up the aggro first, but in my experience good to have in a group. Especially as they can start by just putting points in to damage dealing before worring about stealth when they go to Bremar (lvl ~ 30).

As has been said a really good duo is a Sham and Skald (especially since they removed the hasteners). It is this combo that currently gives me my highest main - lvl 32 Skald. With the speed you can happily explore.

Finally it does not take a lot of work to get a character to lvl 10-12 which is where you really get a feal for what they are about (PvE - RvR is another matter) so don't be frighted to have a go with other characters.

:)

Grinding as a shaman 1-10 is as painful as soloing on a rogue in EverQuest. I just cannot do it.

Why would you need to solo, if your buddy rolls a skald? Prolly the best duo on Mid. Skald + Second DPS is wasted and will get even more painful, believe me. Go with Shaman+Skald ^^

I'm currently undecided on Healer or Berserker, have both around 7, but if you see me on feel free to give me a shout. Grinding solo is boring :(

Toloa - Healer (aug so far for solo)
Beylir - Zerker

hope to hear from you!

you aren't kidding! Last night I did the level 5 part of my epic quest, finished out my journal and literally said, what now?

Reminds me of release actually. I can't seem to find a decent camp of things near 6-8 that don't have a level 12+ aggro who makes me run like a frightened school girl.

I seem to remember down by Gna Faste from the old days... maybe there?
