Hi Albions,

So new to Uthgard and deciding what class to play. My go-to Albion class is a Heretic, which obviously isn't available here so looking for other ideas. Because leveling is actually going to take some work here (I'm actually happy about that!), I thought a Cleric would be over all more painful, slower and might end up becoming boring, so I'm searching for other ideas. I don't usually play casters, Heretic and Shaman was as far into a caster class that I ventured or really care to. So I'm down to Armsman, Friar, Mercenary, Ministrel, Reaver, or Scout (Infiltrators seem to solitary like to me). Could someone give me a quick run down on how these classes generally perform (do Scouts use the old archery system?) in this environment, I admit I've forgotten how it was like way back when. Thanks!

First you should decide if u want to play a grp char or a solo char. As a solo char Infi would be best. As grp char i d recommend the merc out of ur list, since most slots in grp are for merc and it is a pretty good class to start with on Uth.

Definitely want to be a group friendly character, I'm a social player. I was thinking I'd play a Scout as an alternate, but can't decide on a main yet. I tend to like multi functional characters (Like Heretic), especially for the longer leveling it'll be on Uthgard. I'd jump on a Friar but I read on the forums yesterday that Friars have major issues on the RvR front. Since it'll be my main, this is a no go for me (however if I hear Scouts are bad here too, maybe I'll make a Friar as my alternate). I'd prefer a Paladin, with later ability to resurrect, twist Chants, play offensive or defensive over an Armsman and probably a Mercenary too. I'm not sure I could hold my interest long enough with a Mercenary or Armsman, although I'm sure they are good here. What about Ministrel or Reaver? Ministrel's should be very group friendly and Solo decently I'd think, at least higher levels with a pet to assist.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've played Albion and Midgard, I think I made a Hibernian character for Thidranki once with a friend but I'm pretty bred to hate Hibernia and definitely have no desire to play Hibernia as my main realm. :)

I'd really like to begin on Albion here and maybe play Midgard later (I played Midgard for the better part of the last three years. Change in scenery and all would do me well!). What do you think about a Ministrel, and how are Scouts here (old or new archery system for example)?

Tough choice between Minstrel and Paladin but since this is your first Char and you will be broke for quite a long time you should consider the cost to equip your toon. And here i would go for Paladin, since it's a bit cheaper to equip.

But that's just how it was for me.

Akip, i had the same idea and i'm happy that you pointed out the Warden - Battle-specced for ultra fast and fun leveling: maybe you will give Hib a try nonetheless, Dubren :)

Very sure Hibernia won't be the first realm I play here, if at all. :) So Paladin wins in the equipment department- what about grouping, leveling, utility, and so on, compared to the Ministrel (it seems the choice is down to between those two now).

This is true, but likewise wouldn't Ministrels be wanted for their speed? I think both the Paladin and Ministrel would be valued in groups and I probably wouldn't find it to problematic to get into groups- I'm more concerned with how they will function in a group. I read earlier this morning that 2Hand doesn't appear to be as useful on Uthgard and most paladins are regulated to endo/slam bots. If this is true, I'm probably going to reject that class to play (or attempt to play it differently and let the chips fall as they may). I know I'd probably like the utility and functional role of the Ministrel on Uthgard, although I sometimes find pets to be an annoyance. But Right now from what I've been reading on Uthgard, Ministrel seems more enjoyable than a Paladin to me. However perhaps I read the wrong information, or not enough. Another problem I have with the Paladin is its leveling. I recall Paladins being fairly slow but steady levelers, however at the lower levels I won't be able to keep up my endo all the time and I'm sure leveling will become pretty boring over-all as it doesn't take much skill nor can you really speed up its killing (I suppose this is where grouping will help keep me engaged however). When it comes to leveling a Ministrel though the speed and ability to get pets would probably make it quite nice to level. I don't know, maybe the obvious class to roll for me is a Ministrel, I guess in the back of my mind I was wanting to push for something that was more closely related to the Heretic, like being able to resurrect or heal. But if I don't accept a Friar/Cleric/Paladin, that just won't happen. So I need to decide how badly I'd like to be able to resurrect (Paladin) or if I should just go with the Ministrel.

I just realized I ended up talking to myself in this post mostly...Sorry. 0-:)

To make it more relevant for others reading this, anyone know of new Uthgard player friendly guilds I could look up to join?

both paladin and minstrel are ok for lvling, but you will find it hard to find a group with minstrel for the endgame. most 8man setup doesnt include minstrel. you can build your own small groups or find some infi/scout for stealth action ofc.

Yes after some more reading and contemplating I decided I wanted to be able to resurrect and while I might find it a bit repetitive at times (especially leveling) I'm hoping being in groups often and the socialization will help minimize those drawbacks. I just finished installing the necessary software to join the server, which was surprisingly very easy to do! I was expecting to be asking for some technical help doing so, or at least having to spend an hour or two figuring it all out. Well done staff for that!

So far no one has mentioned any Albion guilds that I could look to join. Are there any?

Well, you said you wanted a group friendly class, but it does depends if you want melee group friendly or caster group friendly... Note: This is from what I've examined and have discussed.

Merc (DPS/Light Tank)
Theurg (Cast DPS)
Sorc (This one is personal preference because I play Cabby and I want Sorcs for there crack)
Pally (Tank)

I'll usually also group with Minsts because they also have crack song.

I'm sure I'm missing one or two but I'm distracted right now. :)

Also, on the whole Guild thing... Teutonic Knights is recruiting new players, but, I personally prefer to remain in Clan Cotswold as I have a nice relationship with all (who are willing to type back) and nearly everyone is extremely helpful and always make free gear for people as needed and as do I. So, you can stay with lil' ol' me or move on. :?

Thanks for the reply. I rolled a Highlander Paladin, I'm level 7 at the moment, name is Dubren. Also thanks to whomever donated 5 gold to me last night, that was very nice of you. From what I could tell, Uthgard community seems extra helpful and nice, reminds me a lot of how it was years back. :) As for guild, I'm planning to stay in Cotswold until I'm higher or another guild invites me or something like that. The guild chat was active enough for me last night and I easily got a group once I was level 6 in Mithra. It was far more active than on the Mythic server anyway. :) Well planning to get to level 10 here so I best end this post and get at it!

Thought I would update and say that as of last night my Paladin, Dubren, is level 11. I've had some fun leveling the Paladin in Mithra and fighting boulderlings. It has been steady experience, I now chain yellows and can throw in an orange from time to time solo with downtime around every 10-12 mob kills (depending on how many oranges I take on). I've been in two groups and they enjoyed my Endurance chant. :)

Not sure how much time I will have the rest of the week to play, I hope to reach level 15 or so before the weekend and with some luck reach level 20 or higher by the end of the weekend. Any specific mob camps in Salisbury Plains that drops chain armor or crush weapons and shields?
