8v8 Pole Armsman?

I haven't played DAoC in years, and last I did, I played an Arms on the classic servers. I loved him, but he rarely got any groups. I was the second highest RR'ed active armsman on the server. If I roll up an Alb on Uthgard, I was thinking of an Arms or Merc.
On Uthgard, are Armsman worth leveling up for playing with an 8v8 team? I don't have my own team, so finding a guild/pugging would be my only option. There is nothing worse than zerging with an Arms, and soloing gets old quick. I've also read in another thread that Arms polearm seems to not do enough damage on this server. Is that correct? I used to be able to 1 or 2 shot some casters on my classic pole Arms... is that not the case on Uthgard? Thanks, BB |

Unless you have DW/CD/LA mechanics you won't be able to do any damage to someone with a guard up. If that person with the guard up also has s shield you will basically never hit them. I've seen 90% block rates versus RR3 cleric guarded by RR3 pally, over 50+ combat rounds...and this has happened multiple times, so really hundreds of combat rounds...and the rate holds true for a guarded player with a shield at around 90%+
if the person doesn't have shield themselves but just a guard its somewhere between the high 60s% and 75% in my experience. You will be able to guard well, and having det5 and guard is nice, but most groups just run a paladin for guard right now it seems, since pallies get end. after 1.69 RAs armsman will be the better of the guards I would guess. If the block rate is ever working correctly I don't see why armsman wouldn't be good. |

Thanks for that info. Is guard actually used a lot in 8v8? In my mostly ToA/NF experience, I haven't seen it used in 8v8.

yes, guard is used a lot in 8v8. Most of the decent mids you fight will have a warrior slamming, back snaring, and guarding. I'd say the same thing about hibs too, but it will be either a hero or a BM that's doing it normally.

I strongly recommend merc, more damage, charge, less affected by guard/supports lolblockrate. Most 8vs8 groups run with 2 mercs in average, while absolutely none is running regularly with an armsman.
Definitely not. I am assuming direct control.

If u dont mind 5-6 second swing time and u are ready for constant miss, out of view, out of range, block, parry, evade messages, Armsman is a very good char. And not to mention 250-350 hits with low qui temp, ofc some random shots might get to 450 against armor types that are weak to your dmg type.
But dont worry after u get it to rr6000 im sure it might deal some dmg. |

i have been playing my armsman for about a month now. Haven't rly done a complete rvr grouip but in just duels and stuff i hit for around 380ish. I am using the dragon polearm which is the slowest one in game atm i believe. Very dissappointing. compared to the 700's i saw on my hib getting hit by an arms lol....

the slowest pole is a crafted 6.0 halbert
or a crafted 5.9 pike |
|
slowest "usefull" poles: slash=Poleaxe (5. 8 ), spiked hammer=crush (5.9) and excpeptional partisan=thrust (5.7)
the halbert that musikus suggested is just 15.9 dps and a pike have 4.4 dly with 15.0 dps so yeah, they are maybe the slowest, but pretty useless in level 50 rvr i think its a good choice to take the dragonpole, but i dont remember the proc ![]() Last edited by Dialia on Aug 13, 2010 22:25, edited 1 time in total.

heal proc on dragon pole..
that proc could be handsome but since the healprocs have a varianze they are useless. right now they heal for 9 up to 70.. but as already prooved with live-screens those value 80 healprocs are supposed to heal for a fixed amount of 180 HP.. |
