Hey all

My friend and I are just starting on uthgard (we both have a couple years experience with daoc, but we never played alb, only hib/mid)

He is definately making a sorcerer (he wanted to play a useful good caster, so i told him sorc or theurg, and he didn't want to be a theurg, so that narrowed it down)

Now comes down to me picking a class

What goes well with a sorc?
For:
PVE leveling (gotta hit 50 somehow right? :P)
Fitting into a group (for group RVR mainly, no plans to run as a duo in RVR, 2 desirable classes preferred if possible)

I'm willing to play just about anything alb has to offer (especially necromancer!! <yeah that was a joke :D )

and occasionally my wife might join us, so even a 3rd (but not a dependable third) class would be nice if that suggestion could be made as well :)

Thanks a bunch in advance~~

See you on the warfields!~

Depends on what u like to play. Obviouse pick would be cleri. Allso needed in RvR grps.
A tank could be another pick, slam ftw.

Even a cabbie would work nice, allso faster for xping.

What would u like to play, comes down to that as usually.

If you play a cleric, you have the best pvp duo in the whole game and if your wife plays a cabalist you have the best trio as well ;)

But for leveling, it's pretty hard to duo with a sorc, because they are just a pom and save the ass with mezz bot there (I'm a sorc myself) ^^.

Grab a nice healing pet and you can level with just about anything. Or you staff down oj/reds solo :P

Mmk, as clarification:

I like to play pretty much everything, in my MMO playing, i commonly play healers, ranged DPS's, mages, and occasionally melee DPS (although i usually prefer to stay with a ranged)

The only thing i haven't really played / don't have much experience playing is tanks (other than the occasional playing of friends accounts)

So far looking like cleric being the best option with a maybe on a cabalist

Thanks for the input so far everyone :)

I'd suggest, if you like ranged gameplay, to play a cabby. Leveling one myself now, pretty nice. I psec mostly matter/some points in body, so as to be polyvalent in pve: in matter you can play focus pulling (there the sorc is intended to povide pom, to drain a little bit on the mobs) and with a healer pet the sorc can act as a backup if something goes wrong. You need 3 points in spirit to have the Sacrifice Pet ability that kills your pet in return for power. It's your pocket manaward :)

Alternatively, you pull focus, and you spec dot the mobs, the sorc goes base dot, and draining then the bad guys till death :)

A third class in this setup would be a healing/buffing one, to level fast with focus pulls, but then the sorc is useless as far as pve is going ^^ or, he can spec differently from mezz/pet and respec at lvl 40.
Or a melee. Why not a friar? (I know, lots of people will say a friar is useless in a group, but here, it gives basebuffs, heals, and peeling capability in PvE. In rvr it can come in handy too.)
Or a shield stunner that does a quick job of assisting, like a reaver.

Then for Braemar I'd suggest staying bi-spec with the cabby, trispec is not much reliable damage in small setups.

In fine, you'll get a sorc: speed, mezz, drain, pet
A cabby: i'd go bispec first, then trispec with rank, but you can have: nearsight, dots (pretty powerful in a noToA server), disease, drain, snare, debuff on your drain damage (if trispec) which debuffs for the sorc too.
And for an occasional third player, a reaver could allow for more groupability than a friar, given the habits of the server.

Or run a trio, with double or nothing gameplay it can be fun :) mezz, mage assist with shield stuns and the reaver as a free electron :) kamikaze, but definetly gratifying :)

I've gone as a cleric, just because it seems like the two go hand in hand with an RVR group quite well

Moving me into my next line of question:

Would it be ok to level as Enhance/Smite (just to make things die faster)
(Using the 40 line respec to take smite out completely)

Or should i still go restoration/enhance to keep the pet/sorc/myself alive?

Once again, thanks for the advice and thanks in advance :3

I wouldn't go with Smite. You'll be using the stun for offense mostly, which is baseline. You'll want the heals for emergencies and when you start heading to the BGs.

My suggestion for leveling would be to grab a caster pet (plenty of good ones suggested in several other threads), let the sorc pull, and stun the mob while the sorc and pet nuke it down.

either 42, or 40 enhance seems to be most popular.

I'd prolly go 42 enhance 33 rejuv if I were you.
