1. Download DAoC from the official site.
2. Patch it.
3. Wait for the beta to start.

That is all you need to know at this point.

Because on Dawn of Light, it was saying that we need a game.dll version of no later than .9

Hmm, so if the last slot in my inventory is say... a shield, so the shield is on my hotbar, is there then anyway of using a keybind to equip this item (i.e. shield swap for mercs and BM!!)

No, this has nothing to do with the actual last slot of your inventory. It just means that when you use a potion, the game will start at the TOP of your inventory and go down until it finds a potion of the same name that you tried to use. Then it will use that one, and because you placed one on your bar that was LOWER in your inventory, that potion won't be consumed, and will thus stay on your quick bar.

Inventory:
1. PotionA
2. PotionA
3. PotionB
...
30. PotionA -> Put on qbar

use potion on Qbar -> game uses #1
use potion on Qbar -> game uses #2
use potion on Qbar -> game uses #30 if there was not PotionA between 3 and 30.

Unfortunately there won't be any custom enhancements for swapping shields on mercs/bm's. You will need to get good with the old fashioned drag/drop.

Even live doesn't have anything for this.

I actually never met anyone on Uthgard that used speedhack, and since I played a solo kiting minstrel to RR9, I bet you that if one of my victims actually had a speedhack he would probably turn it on due to pure frustration of getting kited.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I think they have a pretty good auto ban feature for speedhacks.

Auto-ban? No.

Uth 1.0 making new accounts was trivial.

Make a new account, load up a speedhack and warp around on a level 1. You didn't get auto-banned I can tell you that much.

If that's not enough I'll give an actual example that a lot of people will remember.

Those of us who were playing near the end of Uthgard, there was a RR7 Female Norse Savage named Mdma (might have the name slightly wrong).

Ran most nights with the holsten/papper/etc mid pug.

Constant complaints on the forum for the guy speed hacking over a period of numerous months.

We finally got him banned one night when Abydos happened to be around, so we asked him to watch our 8vs8 fights because he was obvious speed hacking.

That was a case of very blatant speed hacking over a long period of time, and was only banned when we found a GM to specifically watch it happening.
