Why not?
There will be a group of people out there who will want this realm to be entirely Mythic-like. Exactly like vanilla, drop rates/xp rates, basically everything and you will not be able to please them unless it is exactly like vanilla.

These people have their nostalgia goggles on so tight it's cutting off the bloodflow to their brain and they believe that vanilla was perfect and nothing was wrong with it.

Think you will get farmed on a new server too.

So what? i have had fun on RvR even when i died, dying is just a part of the game, some people should know that...

Being stupid is one thing, not going to RvR because you will "die" is so stupid as going out and getting farmed over and over by zerg x a fg for example...

My DAOC experience tells me that sometimes an "elite group" (if u get invited to it) is AWAY more friendly and nice than a PUG where people keep blaming each other when they die just because they need to find someone to blame instead of their lack of experience and/or skill...

Saw this RvR QQ i seen on Uthgard for years on live, people lack skills and keep looking someone else to blame instead of their own...

Yes, im SURELLY gonna be farmed (just hope i can win some), specially that i have been "retired" for almost a decade and i wasnt playing anything else, i was taking care or irl stuff because surprisingly some people DO have life outside daoc... And i dont expect coming back to daoc and be able to play as before, experience makes u better everyday and some people dont even having that...

But well, this will not make me stay out of RvR specially because be out of RvR and QQ dont give u skill or experience...

Everyone loves a good time sink. Like riding a horse to AM instead of a dragonfly.
Same reason why there were no portal stones in BGs or PvE hasteners. That would save too much time.

Keep us updated plx!
I will start again, no matter what happens.
(Still, if most players who think a wipe is a good idea agree that money/RR/Item Wipe would be enough, maybe you should also take that into consideration)

I have only played for about a year. However I have a few points I would like to make. Maybe they have been made already and if so I will add my agreement to those that have made the points.

1. Its a free server, everyone has benefited and I hope appreciated the enormous amount of work this server must have been for the 11 yrs it has been up.

2. You have I would imagine trusted those who manage this server to know what the best thing is for the server for those 11 yrs or you wouldn't have played for so long.

3. So many of you are giving up years of work on your characters, so did I when I stopped playing live because of changes that EA made to the game. Do I think it was wasted time? If EA had fixed the game so it was better would I have said nope going to pout and never come back? No I would have started again because the game is fun to play.

4. I would like a fairer playing field not just for myself but for new players who aren't and never did RvR because of the fact that they would be destroyed with no chance.

5. Lastly I have truly appreciated the work that has gone into this server, I wish I had known about it from the beginning. I hope very much that it does come back but if not I am truly thankful, and to all the whiners out there.... I doubt you donated to the server and show some class.

I'm in awe at the work Uthgard staff has done.
I play the new server, but people have to be kidding themselves if they think it would ever have been made possible without Uthgard.

I think this decision, though not 100% certain what will happen (started reading thread at 32 pages, and gave up), is smart.
Work on the server, remove the things that annoy you/people, polish it. Relaunch.
People want daoc, and there is enough daoc lovers for two well run servers. I for one think Uthgard is the "safe" choice after a relaunch, due to stability, not of server alone, but of team.

Oh i've played a day on origins and its terrible, more than 50% exp bonus if you group, so i did lv 5-10 in about 14minutes.. Sell thing at lv 5 give 30-40silver , don't feel that exciting sensation when killing a mob and lv up with your cool equip and hard work. What you give easy will bore soon. Think about a Girl .. If she s easy you will not fall in love... that s the rule! :) joking but true !
Good luck and keep doing the best!!

LoL.
There are 2 opposite stupid way to think:

Easy things = fun
Hard things = fun

The funny is that none of these two are really fun!
The fun is in the middle.
There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

So nobody is going to mention that Origins may be getting shut down by EA? Heard that is the talk of the town over there since they were advertising on Live. No clue if its true, I just heard that it was spreading like wild fire in their forums and the GM's had not responded, which is unusual for them. Wonder if that will have an effect on this decision...

It's (IMO) true that the harder is something to accomplish, - the more is it worth.

easy XP, easy crafter, easy money (besides easy RL money  ), heck even easy RP is exciting at begin.. but in the long run it gets boring, worth nothing - because it was so easy to obtain .. and nothing special that keeps (binds) the player playing.

now.. with server wipe .. Uthgard has the ultimate chance to 'fix' the mistakes in the past.

Uthgard, - please - don't make it easier in what form ever to obtain/accomplish anything.. that's not fun in the long run.

since we all start with 0,0 from scratch.. it's finally - after 9 years?! - fair again .. nobody benefits from past XXX-XXX anymore .. and we all start with the same 'hard' settings. no more QQ needed because we're finally all even.

Thanks :)

Hi there, this is the next of my quite rare posts, but I think the special occasions need special treatments.......

Beeing none of the elitist players with about ten toons but only RR 5lx I cannot and will not comment on the RR side of the game, beeing one of the players with some houses, stacks with RR stones and about 500 plat I may consider commenting on the economic things a bit.

Yes, playing here for a long time gave me and others the chance of farming good, sometimes perhaps even too good items, and if it is possible, you will do that. Yes, I loved that economic power but I also loved the time farming and playing, so OKAY, that may be gone now. I will loose much, but perhaps I may gain new fun in actually finding stuff, cause having everything in stacks makes you loose the spirit to farm things, what I loved once. Loosing all, as hard as it is, trust me, may (and only if I really try to find SOMETHING good in it) be the beginning of new fun. And I guess you may translate all that in the loosing of RR's also.

But: Lossing my level 50 chars with the names, history and everything, that really would break my heart. leveling is and (hopefully) will be pain in the ass, and is definately NOT the funniest part in classic DAOC, having lesss and less time in RL I guess it would definately keep me away having to do all that again, so please consider the different options already mentioned here.....

Perhaps: Delete ALL RR, Items, houses, etc. pp and leave the chars alive
or
at least leave the Char/s with highest RR (without RR obvioulsy)

Leave Craftskills on those chars also, cause that also is a pain and (trust me) nothing to give a too big advantage in the beginning.

Just for your consideration.

I really do NOT know how to motivate me after this drastic measure you were presenting and after that (that was tooo short) implementing right now. I really LOVED my reskin, loved my nice houses level 4 paid for like in aeternitas, loved my chests full of barrels and Co., my trophies ....... that really makes me sad and kinda frustrated but ....... thats the game, its just a pity.

Whatever you decide for, please leave the NAMES as they are. Can be a naked lvl one character if you want to reset everything, but leave me my names :P
