Dear Gms,

pls dont get distracted by noob ppl qqing about what alb/hib or mid is missing and "unbalancing " the game. Keep straight the original patchstand and dont make mistake like in the past by doing custom changes or nerfs on any class/ra. I think the patchstand is great balanced and each realm has unique and powerfull utilitys. Thats why ppl loved classic patch so much .

And genesis expirience is to ignore ,cause nothing works there right. Not one ra is right there or any mechanic or formula.

Great Job and cant wait to test Open Beta.

Yea, thats exactly the point, 2001-2004

There was this Hatefullll group with Skald + Thane
There was Shenziro, who played with his Infil in 8v8 (cheers, garotte for anytime snare)
There was Deceda with his... dunno.. rr11 pala 6 month after release (yea, Im overdoing it, you get the point)

And many more who were really sucessfull that days... The days where "confuse by minstrel resets the quickbar of other players", "nearsight?" and "take your cloaks off for less lag" were valid points and the chat was used infight to communicate.

But nowadays, well, its nowadays. Please stop comparing the times, just wont work.

If i bring my memories back to 2004, i was playing Albion on the italian server (which was closed before reaching patch 1.65).

I remember the typical albion tank group for 8v8 was 1 sorc, 2 cler, 1 minstrel, 3 merc (or 2 merc and 1 arms), and 1 paladin.
That used to work really well (of course we were all at least 7L rr), and the paladin used to play one of the most fundamental roles, not only for the end regen, but also as a bodyguard for the clerics, as additional resser allowing clerics to not lose time and pow for that during a combat, and for having the instant group heal among its ra, an added value compared to the other realms.

It's true that pala had not det, however with a good minstrel using sos and demezz at the right time the problem was not so harsh to deal with. Furthermore purge was always a good escape route in case of root or stun, even though i would not expect a good hib or mid player wasting time to stun a paladin during a 8v8 fight (otherwise i would call him NOOB :D).

Therefore I would argue that paladin have still a great utility on alb. Clerics need protection in rvr, and i think that paladin can do it much better than an arms (have you ever tried to convince and arms to guard the clerics rather than dps? :D).

This is just my point though.

(Of course i cannot speak in absolute terms. There will be always the occasion in which your purge or the minstrel's sos are in cd, or whatever happens that make you suck. And that will be the moment in which you will be screaming against DAOC's God for not having det on your pally)

Yeah except people know wtf theyre doing now which is why the end pot duration/charges came later to cater for people now knowing wtf theyre doing.
We can roll back the patches but we cant roll back our game knowledge unfortunately!

They have the best RAs over other stealthers so at high RR they are superior. As mentioned, Viper, but I would say even more so that they are the only assassin to get Avoid Pain (ABS buff that lasts 60 seconds and only has a 15m cooldown).

All that being said, without AP or Purge up you will likely lose to any Infiltrator that lands a Dragonfang (9s stun from evade) on you.

Wondering if one of the Uthgard staff can address this please, I saw it posted earlier and perhaps it got buried in all the wonderful posts. I generally play Mid with my husband but I have a dear friend who plays Hib, do we know what kind of a timer will be enacted before switching realms? I thought I saw this addressed but the thread is getting large and I have went through it twice this morning, I cant seem to find it.
Thanks so much! Cant wait for BETA!

They have not publicly announced yet what that timer is. Only that it will be significant. Maybe you should all give a new realm a try and go Alb together :)

In 24:22:46:10, the Beta timer will be down to 00:00:00:00.

At that point, the final timer will be revealed :D With a 27" widescreen monitor, I think i'll be prepared for its digits ;)

some one start a poll where you choose what realm you will play.

We are going back to dark age of tank a lot.

I fear that many of you don't truly remember just what the game was like all those years ago...

I totally agree. People only remember the "good" times and intentionally forget the "bad" times. Old RAs have too many powerful RAs on a long timer, thus resulting in a fight more determined by which RA is available more than skill/tactics. New RAs weren't perfect, but they tried to minimize this inherit flaw in the Old RAs.

People like Old RAs because they remember using it at the right time and winning that great fight. They forget all the times they lost because the RA wasn't available to them but was available to their enemy. Having people scream about using RAs in voice chat, so we then sit around for a long time to smoke/eat/whatever to wait for the RAs to be available again.

Fun times.....not.

its allways fun to see ppl argue about the usefullnes off a class in 8vs8 by recalling up on memorys from like 10-15 years ago...
there is literally no way any sane person would choose to take a pala over an arms or even a def merc

i would rly appreciate longer timer on end pots or more charges ... not because of the bad state of the pala (any good grp will be able to play without one and if you can get that going alb actually got a few quite nice setups your grp just has to be very well coordinated) but because it would help any casual grp to actually compete with equally casual grps from mid and hib wich means we got more ppl in alb and a healthier population

Well there is that option as well, I remember I was one heck of a rvr healing/buffing cleric way back then :)
