That leaves nearsight as the only problem for albion according to your suggestions. This is however also a concern for midgard so it's hard to say it's a problem only for albion.

This is a stupid argument. Why would you make people suffer and craft 200 endo pots every day just so they could RVR? Do you think people enjoy porting back every 30 minutes to restock on pots? Do you think people enjoy wasting hours each day crafting 1 charge pots that last for 2 minutes? The answer is simple: **** no. People don't like doing stupid **** like this, so they don't. It's much easier to play on hib or mid, which is what people will end up doing.

The ONLY reason to keep 1 charge/2min endo pots is because "that's how it was back in the day at 1.65." Every other logical reason would lead you to change it in favor of a more balanced, convenient alternative.

Ppl did that on Uthgard 1.0 and will do it on Uthgard 2.0. No 8vs8 group will run without endu pots.

I can't speak for everyone but I honestly enjoy making pots. I ****** love it. I love crafting pots. It seems boring but I put some music on and go to town. It's very relaxing and a fun thing to do. Before Uth closed down I was making 3-400 pots a day. It was fun.

Looks like assassins get a passive RA detection thing and archers get an activated "see all hidden" RA that stays active for sixty seconds with a 30 minute cool down.

But that doesn't seem all that great considering how awesome mastery of stealth was for that class. Hunters will get raped now won't they, if assassins can see them all the time?

old RA MoS only give faster speed while stealthed, doesn't increase stealth detection

imho each class/realm have their own problems with a certain patchlevel, 1.65 is the best compromise I think

the last couple of pages (below my heretic comments earlier) show exactly whats gonna happen if you do one "minor" custom change, everybody else and their dog will want their custom changes to counter the perceived imbalance created, a never ending story

so instead of spreading doom and gloom messages "if that is not this way everybody will leave the server/die/go to Mid" etc. (and that even before Uth 2.0 is out), just be excited whats coming your way, enjoy the journey and try to have fun playing

cheers

It's silly to me that the Uth devs decide to choose a patch level to model the server off. Why? Because there isn't a patch level around this time where things were very balanced. 1.65 is a great start, but there are still many imbalance issues that could be fixed.

A better solution is to make custom changes to the classes to create more overall balance. We have a HUGE advantage compared to mythic devs in 2001 - we know literally everything there is to know about DAOC, so why not use this knowledge to our advantage? Would it be perfect? No. But it would be a lot more fair than picking a patch level that's 15 years old and severely flawed.

I assume that the Uth devs chose to use a patch level (rather than custom) to model the server off of because they're not willing to own up and take responsibility for custom changes on a server. After all, with custom changes, who gets to make the decisions? The custom changes would appear to be arbitrary and biased, which is a whole different type of unfair.

The solution is actually simple. If they aren't comfortable making the changes themselves, they should make a group of very knowledgeable players that would discuss, debate and suggest custom class changes in order to promote equality. The changes wouldn't be ground breaking or perfect, but the end result would be a much more fair server to rvr on.

Think of it this way: if we know 100% about DAOC, then anyone who plays a specific class can not complain about the fact that it can't do this or that, or losses to a specific class to another realm, or whatnot. This is why Mid will likely be the most populated realm, followed by Hib, then Alb a distant third. It's because we know what to expect.

On the other hand, if you tried to meddle with the patch, you wouldn't know what to expect and complaining would go through the roof.

Personally, I would favor some modest changes, all posted ahead of time, to the classes/server. Specifically, I'd prefer the New RAs to the Old RAs. But staff won't listen, so I don't bother.

This demonstrate that Uth 2.0 should be something more than just "emain-8v8-whining-for-add"

Actually I truly believe that the long-lived players appreciate the bigger picture, Uth 2.0 should aim for them rather than 3months of hype. Furthermore I'm ready to bet on these players being the same that donate to the Uthgard project.

After 1.65 is achieved and everything is how the Dev team wants it, will there be any changes made to the server based on popular demand? Knowing the flaws in the 1.65 build for certain classes/realms, does Uthgard plan to leave those issues unaddressed, because "not 1.65"?

ACrispyTaco wrote:So not only does Alb get the short end of the stick for RAs but the entire Alb community is going to be a bunch of try hard min/maxxers who refuse to group with you unless you are one of the 3 classes they deem worthy of playing.

3 classes? min/maxers? Alb has 7-8 classes that are viable for 8v8. It's not min/maxing to refuse to invite someone who doesn't bring anything to the table. Inviting a pally is like inviting a scout, inf or reaver to an 8man. Why intentionally hinder yourself?

Thalien wrote:That's the main problem with alb. Pugging is already horrible cause group setups are so strict and then most alb people seem to be either some of the mentioned elitists who won't group you until you are the right class, right rr etc. or are just pure noobs.

The problem isn't that alb is filled with more noobs or elitists. The problem is it's much more difficult to play successfully in an alb 8man than hib or mid. This is because the classes in alb are typically harder to play and have more things to do throughout the fight. Hib casters spam 2-3 spells. Mid tanks are... tanks with tunnel vision. Albs need more team coordination, and so when you have one weak class or one weak player, the effects are exaggerated, and this is why you typically see alb groups doing either very well or very bad.

Lasastard wrote:There isn't much point to suggesting switching this or that when the Server hasn't even opened. Maybe they will consider tweaking certain things down the line, but doing that would open a flood gate that may be difficult to close again. Once they set a precedence, people will request all kinds of custom changes.

Perhaps there are a lot of changes that would be better for the server. Too many of you have become accustomed to equating "custom" with "bad", when it's simply not the case.

Ask the guys who don't invite the pallys. It's not the fault of the server when people are behaving like dicks.

Just because someone refuses to invite a class that's horrible for 8v8 doesn't mean they're dicks, it means they actually want a chance of winning. This is smart. Want to 8v8? Don't roll a pally.

We would know exactly what to expect. We aren't talking about making gigantic changes to the game. We're talking about making minor tweaks (that were already implemented in later patches) that fix imbalance issues between realms.

Fixing small imbalance issues isn't only about 8v8... Something like giving pallys det would affect casuals and zergers too.

As I said, in order for the server to thrive you need a good population of casuals and hardcore players. I really don't see what casuals have to lose by allowing certain custom changes that promote balance.

To be honest its the groups fault if a Paladin is stuck there in root.
You should be running towards your Pala peeler, you know the one with glowy chants above his head. At this point the Pala puts intercept on you, gets hit, and is free.

Just leaving this here: Black Adders were the first guild to add a scout in their set group, and one of the first guilds to start using minstrels in groups successfully during uth 1.0. So no, there are no '3 classes' to pick from. You can do whatever you want if you wish to (and you apply for it).
