Jeez, can't believe someone truly believed to my picture lol Glad that Blue undestood that it was a funny joke (actually its even from my work svn ) Anyway beware, TheUthgardFaith™ is rapidly going down, people starting to believe everything they see.. others started throwing hateposts after a year of the opposite... haters/yellers started to be nice and finally left the forum for some fresh air pauses (yes, kidlich im mainly talking about you lol), Galandriel (hansi for friends) posting two funny jokes/post in a row in the same topic... i mean, woah, this is escalating quickly! You better put that server back up before 2017

Is anyone planning to run Uthgard with a Linux machine? If so, which version of wine do you have the best luck with?
Yes, I was and I am still running Daoc on Linux via Wine. You will not be able to run it on stable wine binaries from your distro's repo tho. They will trigger a graphical bug when trying to create vertex shaders, so you will crash after the character selection screen. To avoid this you have to apply a patch/hack on the sourcecode before compiling it on your own, or if you use a wine version manager like playonlinux (which i highly recommend), select a custom precompiled version from a database. Look for the information "vertex-shader" or "vertex-blending" in the name, the most recent one currently being "1.7.4-vertex-blending". Don't forget that you will need Portal in order to connect to Uthgard. For this you have to install mono210 and gdiplus (within playonlinux, or if you don't use it via winetricks). Then create a shortcut within PoL to mono.exe and add launching parameters to run the connect.exe from the Portal client, then more parameters to connect to the server with your login information. I will provide a step by step guide on the Uthgard forums once the server is (about to be) online again. Zetetic wrote:Does anyone plan to use any special hardware to run Uthgard? It is an old game so I am tempted to just leave my older system alone, but surely something could improve things. Maybe as simple as a special mouse or keyboard?
You are allowed to use any mouse or keyboard as long as you dont issue multiple commands with pressing only one key. As this is usually only software-sided, the hardware itself in this case is free to use for ergonomic reasons (like a 12 button mouse for using things on your qbar, or qbinding buttons to a custom onehand keyboard). As for myself, I used the additional buttons on the Logitech G600 mouse for several assistbuttons, guard, endu/healpots, item charges and shortbow draw. My left side of my keyboard had melee styles and class abilities qbinded.
Be aware that we have made quite some changes to our connect flow, and while I was trying to watch out for Linux users, I'm not 100% convinced that everything there will work smoothly or at all, and I'm not sure how much spare resources we'll have to get things working there. Just something to keep in mind.
Be nice. :)

Just something to keep in mind.
Interesting to know, but as far as i know, the way the connection is managed shouldn't interfere with the client graphic bugs and/or compatibility, therefore if the client worked previously, so should even now/then
