There is a certain amount of credibility loss as we approach the second year of downtime. The term vanity project comes to mind.

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them. Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs. |

I think it is imperative to acknowledge the problem here. For one, despite everybody coming off as aggressive, unworthy, and entitled, most of--if not ALL--of these players are in fact grateful, myself included. That said, we are mad. Mad because this has been a secret stream of income (DONATIONS) with little to no indication of the end in sight.
Take for example the Grab Bag. It's been a few days since Trishin said she/he was "working on it." It would take any passionate Uthgard player about 10 minutes (at most) to type up some sentences concerning big issues that everybody here wants answered. But it takes Trishin as much time as it takes a surgical practice to recover a patient from frontal lobe lebotomy. Come on guys. It's just getting ridiciulous. I'm not suggesting you ignore your families IRL or quit your jobs, but it would be really fair to say: "here is a list of the problems we are still working on: 1- Mob Pathing -- the boulderlings in Camelot Hills are bugged and need to be fixed 2- RA implementation -- still gathering data from proper patch level 3- Bonedancer Healer Pets not working etc. etc. etc. and we expect this to take about another 6 months given our current trajectory, subject to change." Everybody appreciates your work and wants the server up. Nobody is expecting you to cut your arm off for this project. Everybody ONLY wants an estimate of the problems and time so that we can stop checking this forum everyday before work, stop looking for updates, and start getting a realistic idea of what our donation money has done. Saying you wont provide those estimates because they are subject to change is like taking somebodys money for a product you sell, but then refusing to give them the product because you might introduce a new product somewhere down the line. this is frustrating. please correct this. Lastly, thank you, of course, but it is more infuriating for a player base when there is a sarcastic GM response with "when it's done, it's done." That makes me feel like you don't care about the players at all, and everybody left Uthgard when Genesis launched for just that reason. It would be prudent to NOT repeat history when you have the most passionate DAoC fanbase imo in the world. That is all. Thank you guys, good luck on the server and hopefully she's up soon ![]() |

Summer is coming!
Do something else. If there would be an ETA everyone would go crazy if the server would not be up on this date. Different people work on different sub-projects so you often can't measure an exact time when things are done and ready. Uthgard till 2003!

Here is how grab bags are done, and hopefully this will clear up why it isn't just "10 minutes and it's done". 1. I find some questions (5-10 minutes work) 2. I try to answer these questions (5-20 minutes of work depending on the questions) 3. I post these internally so everyone can have a saying in the answers (1-2 minutes of work) 4. I discuss the answers and wording with every staff member in that thread (1 hour - 14 days of work depending on the wording, questions, how quickly it gets cleared by the rest of the staff - Obviously some questions require more discussion than others) 5. I rewrite the post to fit the grab bag format (5-10 minutes of work) 6. I post the grab bag on our forum and facebook page (5 minutes of work) Some of you might question why my estimates are so big, but take them as guidelines more than anything on how long it takes to do each step. Obviously some questions are easy to answer, some actually take a long time to get the wording right. What many of you forget is that in order to answer these questions, we have to choose our wordings carefully. Or they will be misunderstood / used by trolls / questioned / (you get the picture now). We also have to remember what the answers are, as some of these questions refer to decisions made almost 2 years ago and frankly we sometimes forget what we decided on a specific topic since the job is already done. So while it might seem like it takes 10 minutes for me to do a grab bag, it often takes much longer because we need as a team to agree with the information we are passing onto you all. Add the fact that this is a spare time project which means that you won't always get people to respond to grab bag questions within a couple of minutes. And finally: @What donations money are used for? Your donations are used for one thing only, which is server cost. So if you want to make sure Blue doesn't have to pay for the server himself, you can donate some money. If not, Blue will pay this out of his own pocket. P.S. This is exactly why we don't give out ETAs. We give you a hint on what we are working on, and what the goal is. And suddenly we have to spend 10-20 minutes defending why it isn't done as fast as you wanted it to be. Got any questions? Submit them to me and I will try to get them answered in our grab bag !

To be honest Trish, I do not understand why it all has to be secretive but oh well. If someone is working on a project, great, tell us and we are happy. If said project doesn't come to fruition, oh well, all we want is to play in some manner again (and Lord knows it will be light years better then Origins). If no one is working on things, tell us and then as was suggested above we will stop waiting and go do something else, check back in 6 months, etc.
I really am baffled sometimes why that short list of problems/projects you GM's have referred to that need to be resolved/implemented for relaunch, at least at a broad level, hasn't been made public. At this point, no, there is probably not a lot the community can do to help. But just even having an idea of what is left will dispel the uncertainty and allow us to make a determination of how plugged in we want to be on the forums, IRC, donating, etc. I personally told Blue the other day that I was going to have to suspend my donations, even though I know he is paying out of his own pocket (and believe me people, it sounds like Blue makes a lot more IRL then he ever could from Uth donations), because I need an end goal to justify contributing. As soon as that end goal and the path to it are made even semi-clear, even at a broad level, I will begin donating the same amount each month. But without it, I am saddened to say that I just can't do it anymore, even though I know it is an imposition on Blue. I want to do everything I can to support Uth, but the secrecy (intentional or inadvertent) and lack of communication (though Kudos to you Trish for making great strides in the past several months) on a project that I personally have invested a significant amount time (though obviously there are a lot others who have invested tons more) and $$$ into makes me really sad. It doesn't have to be this way, but it is. Maybe that can change with time, but that is out of my hands. So I just hope to see the server up soon. Maybe September, but my experience and intuition tell me a more likely bet is December or the 2-year demarcation when you account for the alpha and beta testing the server will have to go through, inevitable bugs creeping up, repairs having to be made, peoples busy schedules in the summer and through the holidays, etc etc. To everyone who reads this, sorry to be such a downer. I want nothing more than to see Uth 2.0 rise from the ashes of Uth 1.0 like a Phoenix (and dominate Origins though hats off to them at least trying). Guess we will just have to wait and see. In the meantime, summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere, so enjoy summer people and LLU2.0, Alpha |
