Unfortunately i am start thinking that before uth releases is most likely more probable that alternatives (valid) will pop up.. maybe not as good as uth but surely better than existing servers.. not hard though^^

and finally....

Anyone see the French Military Rifle on eBay? It's never been shot and only dropped once!

OK, I can't resist chiming in...my personal favorite quote regarding France is as follows:

"Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion.

Norman Schwarzkopf"

Disclaimer: I have nothing against France, French people, Orihiime, or any people for that matter (unless they are dicks). I just remember the first time I saw this quote though, I thought "Wow, that was really creative and descriptive of that persons viewpoint".

But seriously, knocking on someone because of their country of origin is not cool. This is the Country of Uthgard, and all are welcome here (even if currently we only have a forum as our method of interacting with one another).

I am still hoping that Uthgard returns. I am still playing on Genesis but at least for me here in the US the server is very unstable. I get dc'd every few hours and sometimes at times that are very unhelpful. Still Genesis has allowed me to play DAoC so I am more happy than I was.

Not hard? I have to disagree with that statement. There is nothing simple about putting together a freeshard. Also, making one that most people will like and has little to no bugs. DoL out of the box comes with nothing (which is fine, they take you to the 5 yard line, it's up to the developers to bring it the rest of the way) but to make one that's worth a damn? At minimum it requires writing custom database implementations (if you go sql-LIte localDB, you're just lazy and will have a very unmaintainable final product), geometrical path finding algorithms, fixing numerous bugs in a giant sea of code (code that was not written by yourself), deploying to a server and configuring the firewall, creating custom tools, and configuring actual zoning points. I know I'm missing numerous things but those are just items I've encountered and taken on in the passed couple months and that's just the development end of things. Running the in-game commands and building the world sounds so daunting, I have only re-created a corner of Mithra, and the moment I got a mob to agro/follow me around a corner was the biggest achievement of my entire DoL development experience, granted I only have so much time in a day to play around with DoL. But I'm to assume most people who work on freeshards (I only do it for fun on a private sever) are similar to me: married, kids, salaried based Development job that demands 50+ hour work weeks and tight deadlines developing business applications, very little time to devote to a hobby project. DoL is no business application even though it works with the same technologies, there's always going to be a learning curve. I know I pop in in here time after time and defend the developers even though they're showing no progress, but when people act like building a freeshard is "Easy" or in your case "Making a freeshard better than the existing ones wouldn't be hard) THEN GO MAKE ONE YOURSELF! The people at Genesis are doing good, I only play a couple times a month and I look at it as a very fine piece of art that's a work in progress. To the point, don't say making one better than what's existing wouldn't be hard. Something better may come along, absolutely, but it wouldn't be "easy" to make that happen.

I wish they would have kept the server running with Uthgard 1.0 as long as Uth2 isn't finished.

It's not like we don't know that patches/feature-requests on Uthgard take their time (Old RAs *cough*) and that's completely legit as you're doing it in your freetime for the community. But I've really no idea why they had to take the server down to "work" on Uthgard 2.

common sense and reasonable ideas, thats a good one .... sure everyone has lying spare server hardware around and their ISP won't charge them extra for hosting/bandwith

Lol, I've been writing financial software for the same company for 6 years. Trust me, I'm no college drop out nor do I work at Mcdonalds... I'll drop off the thread, just trying to defend the development teams and that's clearly not a popular thing to do.

yup, that is what you do. but without any substantial argument its called "sucking up" mr financial software programmer.
again, i wont go into all the bull$hit of your crap dump since its obvious that you have no idea what dol does aside of being a "daoc server".
