Once upon a time in a land far far away,
a strange unknown land made up of one's and zero's, a Giant called Uthgerd roamed the landscape. But it was no ordinairy Giant. No. It was a Giant who had troubles with his own body. No, he wasn't anorexic, he wasn't handicapped or misformed. The troubles he had originated from his brain. His brain thought it was superior to all other parts of the body because it could control these parts at will. Whenever the brain felt it had to turn or go forward.. eh, I mean backward, the brain simply ordered its body and it would move. Now there were times when the brain ordered the body to plow through thornfields, climb mountains or simply jump higher than the body could possibly do. But not only that. The body grew old and tired of being bossed around. The body lost all its virility from its early days and grew worn out by constantly having to followup orders which the body opposed against with all its might. Only the parts of the body that would give in and follow the brain like a slave would remain active. Even though the body had a lot of potential, this was never considered by the brain who thought every part of the body that couldn't decide for itself was merely a weak tool to be used by the vastly superior brain. In fact, the brain figured that the body should be grateful for having the chance to serve this masterful brain. A brain so bright and glorious that none on this planet could match its wisdom and power. And so the Giant strolled along the countryside, looking for a good time. A good time in the brain's perception that is, as all other parts of the body were being dictated by the brain and had no say in anything of significance. Sure, once in a while the body would endure hardships that were beyond its limits, which caused them to send an emergency stress singal to the brain. Whenever this situation occured, the brain did receive the singal, but it still refused to listen to the body. One day, the Giant was plowing through a thronfield, when a major thorn, you could almost say the mother of all thorns, planted itself into the Giant's side. The Giant moaned and gritted its teeth because of the pain that radiated from his side. Normal, healthy Giants would take this sign in and deal with it accordingly. Their body would yell "Get the hell out of here and recover your wounds!", and the brain, flooded by all the stress and pain signals, would use the adrenaline made by the body to find the best and most efficient way to get out and recover in a safe place. However, as we know, Uthgerd was not a normal Giant. Even with the massive pain and significant bloodloss he suffered from this evil thorn, his brain stood firm and regarded the feelings which originated from the body as another symptom of its weakness. It was sure of the direction it had ordered the body to move to and it would make sure the body would get there, whatever the cost. And so, the Giant made his was through the thornfield, battered and bruised, and with a gaping wound in his side. But the brain was not satisfied yet. The body had no clue why the brain wanted to move to this specific place it had in mind, because there was nothing to be won for the body. Quite the contrary, the body had to sacrifice itself for the brain to achieve its precious destination. The brain did not give in. The journey was still very much relevant to the brain's goals. And so Uthgerd continued his way along a lonely path. Because lonely it was indeed. Not only was there no love, compassion or even acknowledgement between body and mind, there was no other Giant to be seen anywhere! In every direction the Giant could look far and wide and see nothing but landscape and vegetation. Yes, the Giant had sometimes encountered Midgets, or other irrelevant creatures, which he usually ignored completely. His brain was sure to be superior to every life form he ever saw, so why bother caring about any of these? The only things that fascinated the Giant came from the sky. Sometimes, when he looked up, he could see faint images of other Giants appear before his eyes, or, at least he thought it were Giants, because they looked like huge living things. But these images never lasted long and the Giant knew that they would not have any real power in his world, so while he was intrigued, he was also confident in his own power. Because after all, the brain wanted power, because it had known to be powerful almost his entire life. One day however, a day which the Giant would remember for all of his time to come, the Giant encountered another living being on his path which he could not ignore. It was... another Giant. This time, a real Giant, it looked very identical to Uthgerd in appearance. Uthgerd was surprised by this creature, even though it was still smaller than him. However, he did as he always did and decided to ignore it. Even though there was something remarkable about this small Giant. The Giant had remarkable energy that radiated from the synergy of his body and mind. You could see that both of these were happy to live together. They had a healthy relation which enabled them to achieve things not even Uthgerd could achieve. It could jump higher, walk longer, take more beatings and never would there be a complaint from either mind or body, because both knew that they had chosen a path for the good of both. Even though Uthgerd decided to ignore Borigins, which was the name of the smaller Giant, Borigins, in his remarkable way, noticed the internal struggle in Uthgerd's body and it couldn't pass by without mentioning this unhealthy situation to Uthgerd. Yes Uthgerd was stronger and taller, but Borigins knew that it was not healthy. It stood right in front of Uthgerd and said: "Why don't you listen to your body? It has given you all the ability you could have ever wanted, it is the source of your power! Why do you act like you do not need it?" Uthgerd, slightly surprised by the courage of this young Giant, smiled and replied: "Get out of my way you worthless Midget, my brain is superior to everything and everyone, I don't even need a body! So I do to my body what I want, whenever I want. If you don't like what you're seeing, leave!" And so, the young Giant called Borigins continued along its path, joyful and full of vitality. Months and months had passed since that encounter, and Uthgerd was slowly but surely growing older, which went hand in hand with shrinking in size, if only just a little. He didn't used to spent much time thinking about things, but more and more, the short conversation with Borigins sprung up into his mind, allthough it never really got the chance to sink in. He decided he should ignore it as much as possible and continue along his path the next day. Morning came and he slowly woke up to meet the first sunlight. When he set out he still felt a little tired, but he decided he had to keep on pushing, as he always did. He walked through a forest all day, until he got to an open place where only tall gras and flowers would grow. He thought this was a good place to rest for a bit. Lying with his body stretched out he enjoyed the rest and started to fall asleep. It wasn't a good sleep though, he was having the nightmare about dying again, an old ache which he used to have in his sleep. He woke up staring at the sky, sweating and breathing heavily, however he was relieved it was over. He tried to get up... But he couldn't. He didnt know why until he looked down from the heavens and looked at his body. Or what was left of it. All he could see was a massive thumb, attached to a massive hand, attached to the largest body ever seen in the history of Giants. He could not believe his eyes. Was he still dreaming? His body got completely crushed under just one finger of this Giant, was this even possible?! Blood everywhere, he barely had the strength left to breath. His heart was close to shutting down, he didn't have a lot of time left. He screamed: "Who are you? Why did you do this to my body?" The big Giant removed his thumb and rotated his massive body in a somewhat clumsy way towards Uthgerds face. Uthgerd turned pale. He recognised that it was Borigins, the small Giant from his memory. Is this reaility? That small Giant became larger and more powerful than anything or anyone he had ever encountered! Borigins replied: "I thought you said you didn't need your body?" He smiled as he picked up Uthgerd's legs and dropped them on his tongue, visibly enjoying the entire scene. Uthgerd screamed in pure agony and fear: "AAAAAARHHHGGGRHHHHHH!! PLEASE! STOP! HAVE MERCY! SOMEONE HELP ME! I'LL DO ANYTHING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER! I'M SORRY I IGNORED MY BODY, I'M SORRY! I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN, JUST PLEASE, LET ME LIVE!!! PLEEEEAAAAAASEE, AARGHGH, I BEG OF YOU!!!" The once so arrogant and overly confident Giant had shown his true self. A scared, fragile and immature brain trying to deny losing the power he always took for granted. Desperateley trying to escape the reality of losing his body. It became clear how utterly childish this Giant's brain had behaved itself, as it never realised how miserable it really was without the body that he viewed as inferior. The body he thought should be grateful to be able to dance to his every wish. "I'LL DO ANYTHING TO LISTEN TO MY BODY FROM NOW ON, ANYTHING, YOU HEAR ME?! I'LL TRY TREATING MY BODY WITH THE BEST LUXURY EVER KNOWN!! I'LL LISTEN TO EVEN THE SILLIEST AND NASTIEST SIGNALS!! I'LL EVEN TRY SHUTTING DOWN MY BRAIN!! I'LL DO ANYTHING ANYTHING Anything...Whilst yelling and screaming he saw his legs starting to melt and glow on Borigins tongue, radiating long lost vitality and strength, vitality and strength they never knew they held when they were part of Uthgerd's body. Borigins enjoyed this and grew larger as he ate more of Uthgerd's body. Uthgerd was about to pass out right then and there, and Borigins didn't care. Borigins didn't care one bit, he was neutral to all Giants he had absorbed, he just did what felt natural to him and he knew his body and the body of the other giants would benefit from this. Uthgerd finally passed out. He was still alive, but he was completely and utterly wrecked. The only chance on survival ceased to lie in Uthgerd's hands, or what remained of his hands. Uthgerd lost his body and with that all his might to recover from hardships on himself. The only one who could still save Uthgerd, was Borigins. Uthgerd needed Borigins' bodycells to recover his own. As of now it is still unknown whether Uthgerd ever recovered from his wounds, or whether Borigins would ever lose the clumsiness of his massive body. Only time can unravel this mystery. ----------------------- The players have always been your body. Sending signals, sometimes mixed, sometimes honest, sometimes nasty, sometimes stupid, sometimes smart, sometimes insightful, sometimes hateful, sometimes grateful. You've had years and years to listen and take your destiny in your own hands. You refused to do so. Only Origins' failure can now save you from your deserved doom. I already said what I think about a possibly/likely wipe. Just want to add that I find it very odd that most veteran high RR players continue to blame alleged "QQers" for this decision. Which "QQers"? The server is almost empty, dead, done with. The "QQers" already left, leaving the few elitists in their thinking that the long gone QQers for some reason still spam the forum just to be annoying and that everything would been no problem anyways if staff had only listened to the veterans.
Let me say this again: I am a non-pro low RR player who did his best to try to participate in rvr ... and it sucked!!! Either I was part of a 3-4 player grp trying to get keeps noone cared about or we got wiped by rr10 players. There undeniably is a problem with both RR gap and gear gap. You don't want to accept that? Fine, but you simply cannot expect the staff to run a freeshard which is enjoyable for high RR players mostly/only when this results in a population of max 180 players at weekend primetime and well below 100 players else. You're welcome to call me a "QQer" if that makes you happy, but if the staff hadnt done anything about this (not necessarily a wipe, I never called for that) I would have been next to try something else. Yea, I know ... "Bye bye, wouldnt have missed you etc etc", but I wonder, if it wasnt players like me participating in low RR groups trying to contribute some rvr action, who would be left for the high RRs to kill? Was it really that hilarious to stand around at AMG, always the same few people, either doing duels or desperatly waiting for a low rr zerg that would never come simply because it wasnt possible anymore with so few players? I kinda doubt that, but if you say it was, then I wonder if this really resembles the spirit of DAOC anymore. |

Then before Wipeing why not put it at a vote? let the people deside. |

Only a very tiny part of the community uses the forum regularly and check it for updates. Most of my guildmates never use the forum but they all disagree with this server revamp. If this decision came after months of crisis I would've accepted it without any doubt, but this is coming after only ONE WEEK of underpopulation! The timing of this decision is also very poor considering the fact that your main rival, the Origin server, is struggling with various issues like heavy lags and major bugs. Those issues can make that project fail completely if they are not corrected soon enough. People is asking for a wipe because they say they can't compete in the endgame RvR. I certainly agree with the fact that there is a "gap" between old players with high RR and newcomers but this gap could have been reduced pretty much simply by implementing old RAs. As you know old RAs have a longer rut and they are less expensive so a char needs less realm ranks to be ready and performant in RvR. Blue stated that old RAs would have come in February. Why didn't you gave it a try? I think that old RAs alone would have brought back many many players, at least for the curiosity to try them on their char. Now with this wipe maybe you can attract some newcomers but you will lose a big part of the solid playerbase you had. For example me and my entire guild will not consider to come back on Uthgard after this reset. Biggio <Rinnegati>, RR9 Blademaster

If there would be an option for a wipe, id vote for it without hesitation. The reason why so many moved to Daoc Origins is a fresh start. The server is laggy as hell and full of bugs and issues. Yet all still stay and will stay there, because it a fresh start and chances are more or less equalized (really just more or less).
Uthgard is far superior in all areas except the very uneven balance of wealth and so on. All it needs is a fresh restart. |

Thank you for all the time and dedication put into this server. You failed a lot, but you did good things as well. Can't wait for the server to return!

Come on guys - get over it.
For real there isn't anything else that offers us such a RVR experience - and tbh you all just will reroll. |
|
If you are even thinking about a wipe of the server, I state here very clear the Ordine dei Dragoni guild will never come back again.
-We want tears from players- GO ON this is the right lane!!!!! |

We're Arguing and arguing here everyone got his personal opinion, we flame, we agree, disagree and make more confusion than before between players and staff.
I say: Let's open a Community Poll and let players decides. The only certain thing is that the server will be shutdown and for long time (at least some month, but i think more). So in this long period why don't you profit (to the staff) to open community polls about important matters, for example: - Wiping all or not - And still what kind of wipe do we want? Full wipe or rr wipe? - Let the server being totally loyal to the livelike or adding some nice custom feature wich don't affect too much the classic style Remember that not everyone log the forum often, but the period required to fix the server looks long so every player have the chance to decide about Uthgard destiny. Only community polls can let us decide orderly and in objective way I would keep my characters and their rr but i could accept also a total wipe on condition that player choosed democratically the server's destiny and this means that population is guarantee to be the highest possible. |

I wouldn't return even if they didn't do a wipe. I realized yesterday I will never agree with their robot mentality and the way they think. It's not a matter of server being good or bad, uthgard is an awesome server. Thing is, if someone ass ****** me, cums all over my face and slaps me like a ******, I am supposed to cuddle with them? No way bro ![]() "He was concerned only with the naked fundamentals of life. The warm intimacies of small, kindly things, the sentiments and delicious trivialities that make up so much of civilized men's lives were meaningless to him. A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs. Bloodshed and violence and savagery were the natural elements of the life Conan knew; he could not, and would never, understand the little things that are so dear to civilized men and women." |

I've been a player here off and on sense 2004-2005 i think this would be a GOOD THING!!!!! BUT you guys need to UP!! the xp slightly also. I don't think people that work or have kids have lots of time to grind like the no lifers that in the long run is what made a big imbalance in a group of rr 2 and rr 3 vs a group of rr 10-11 and 12 made r.v.r suck.. people simply hate grinding so hard for xp when you guys come back online why would people wanna come back if they can play somewhere else where you have a really nice grp bonus to xp like on origins that makes people wanna group for xp and it don't take 5 years to lvl to 50.. People like having a multiple char to choose from to rvr not a 50 every few months or year depending on their work / responsibilitys that gives a bunch of people way less time to play idk just a though this was a one thing i notice thru the years that made a big imbalance with new and old player with no time to play most people with little time to play when they did reach the fronteirs they really had a small chance to get realm points... This was a issue with alote of people.... if you up the xp cap and made a good full group bonus to xp alote of people would wanna play just because of that reason alone..... But server wipe is a good idea imo ...

I like the decision, to keep things interesting a complete reboot is necessary, similar to ladder resets in PoE or D3 for example.
I would not mind to have a complete wipe every 6 months or so, this will neglect the gap that will ALWAYS occur which is the main problem as the staff already saw. There is absolutely no reason to start on Uthgard as new player when this gap exists with all those wealthy elitist players that have been here since the beginning. This is the right thing to do, Uthgard Staff. |
