Are there new incidents? Or still talking about stuff that happened 8 months ago, with a GM that is no longer on staff?

No, nothing. For an almost one year old server everything is fine. Just checked the last posts of this news section from 2006/2007 and these posts sounds pretty like Genesis atm :D

So be fair to a new server. If Uthgard comes back ofc Uthgard will take over because so many mechanics are still broken. Think UThgard have 3 years time to come back and will still be better than Genesis.
Hope GMs are fine with what they have stated, that they are fine with just 80 people (300ppl was Trishin Statement long time ago) playing the game under their vision.
Its important to leave this server running doesn't matter how low the numbers will be. The other servers can fail but Uthgard still will be there, thats Uthgards only chance.

Edit 19/09/21: Well Uthgards chance has come.

Genesis has improved a lot compared to its humble beginnings, but the staff has really lost it atm. Damage formulas change so often and so extremely that every other day one class becomes almost godlike while others are a sad joke. Currently it seems archers are in the first group. I played my reaver in Lion's Den the other day, and while I hit a stealther for ~17 styled dmg I got hit by an archer for 153 + 41. Non critshot obviously since I was in combat. Mages around you just drop like flies because with this kind of dmg they just get oneshot killed. Poison dots seem to be another major source of unbalanced gameplay. I fought a SB with my reaver - I had the initiative, so no PA or something - and I was dead while he was still at ~80% health. I'm talking about Lion's Den here though, don't know if this evens out in later levels.

All you can do is shrug and log to another toon, hoping he has not been severly gimped by the latest patch.

Another big problem in my opinion are hackers. It happens so many times that enemies just kind of warp out of melee range. You chase them with sprint (perma sprint ftw!), and suddenly they teleport 1 or 2 yards ahead. Sure, the server is always kind of laggy, but this is definitly on purpose.

I think the devs and gms at genesis are really trying hard and they are obviously spending a lot of time to improve the server, but there's still a long way to go, especially in terms of balancing.

You're right. Once Uthgard is back Genesis willl be dead in the water. Population has already dropped to <400 players although it's in fact the only decent daoc freeshard available. I already feel pretty sad for the devs and gms at genesis because they really don't deserve to see all their work go to waste, but it will happen. It's a bit absurd that people who spend their free time voluntarily to provide a free daoc experience to us players end up in such a very competetive situation. :?

plus old RA suck a lot... I always said so, but even I forgot how bad designed they were.

Even if they would be without the thousand bugs on genesis... but this is something Uthgard 2.0 will also have to cope with.

A lot of the stuff that is bugged on Genesis like melee damage, etc. worked fine on Uthgard before and I'm sure they're testing old RAs to make sure they're working correctly before relaunching the server. I just don't see a bunch of bugs just cropping up for some reason when/if they relaunch.
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc

y, every week there is a new patch that mess something up. They got a running test server that seems not to be a real mirror of the main server.

Hackers I never have experienced I think its a lions den thing cuz who cares If your level 9 char gets banned.

as if... we are the low rr on genesis, and guess what: old RA help a ****** against the 14 points I-win RA's from high rr groups from alb and hib... ok against mids it would help, as they have no I-win RA's :D

As much as I am looking forward to Uthgard 2.0... but I can't think of how they are going to test old RA

As far as I know, it sounds like there will be an alpha test phase for Uth 2.0 where people will be able to test all aspects of the game, including high lvl RVR (much like on Live's Pen server where you can basically i50, equip in MP gear, and get RR5L5 all within about 15 minutes).

This will assuredly not be as broad an alpha test as any triple A-game might get, but IF it is still going to happen, we, the people should be ready to put the server under duress, and test the ****** out of everything, including the new (i.e. old) ra's for damage/effects/bugs/etc. Would be good if people prepare themselves with tools to document before hand (video, photos, etc), if you don't already have them available.

As always, I am not a GM, and I have no idea if/when this will happen...just saying I have heard this option is definitely in play.

LLU2.0,

Alpha

Regarding my former posting about damage changing wildly all the time at genesis:

Some guy at the genesis forums just posted this:

Was checking my lvl 45 arms melee dps on oj, red mobs.

on the excact same mob with same weap and style i did 92dam, then 146dam, then 90 dam then 132 dam with a 1hander crush.

With polearm, i did 100-120dam

With xbow i did 150-160

and im 39crush, 44pole, 10xbow

Stuff like this happens like every 2 or 3 days. They've put so much work into their server, and now they seem to carelessly ruin it by patching code with a "well I wonder what will happen if I change this now ..." mentality. Balance is completely messed up. You log in either as a god or as free rp delivery. I wonder what might cause this. Maybe some important dev has left the team or something?

Makes uthgard's decision to do thorough coding and testing instead of early release look like a decent thing to do.

This is just rude. Its been so long. With no word, ever. I'm done Donating. I will literally pay people to put up a server, Classic. to my specifications(Classic + Barrels). Is there any one here who has the skills required to do this? i've posted on several other sites looking for scriptwriters as well. I am a rich man. This needs to happen BEFORE I grow old and die.

This is what I want. - In 3 months time. to have a server up and running. With minimal bugs. I will pay for as many Live account subscriptions that are need'd to gather what ever data is required.

I will give $2,000 USD to every person who help's with this goal.

That ´s the point, I think it ´s not a problem of money, but without the scripted code you have to do the same like on Genesis, start from the scratch and try to improve your gamecode step by step and that needs much time. Even if you would get Mark Jacobs and friends on your side they won ´t make it in 3 Months, mission impossible.

Someone from mythic development once said the scripting for daoc is terrible, they had no clue and experience with a project like this and started with bad knowledge what to do. They made formulas they didn ´t understand on their own and how they work out.
So I understand and appreciate the work of the staff here very much, must be hard work and I hope they come along.

We have to be patient and wait, it ´s hard I ´m really missing to play here, I tried to play on Genesis but it made me upset so I stopped long time ago.

@ Alpha
It would be nice if that Uthgard Alpha 2.0 thang would be confirmed by staff. I think it woulde be a good way to test the server and we would have time to make commercials for the relaunch Baman for example applied to make a decent video :-) .

@ Genesis and Uthgard
I think Genesis would stand a chance to survive if they make it a pvp server when Uthgard is back or they aim at TOA and new frontiers/new RA´s but then their current work so far would be mostly in vain. There is not enough room for 2 classic servers with the same setup and the majority will play on Uthgard.

regards
Megrim
