It's cool to see that this is still running but as cool as daoc was in its day I can say that as a casual player (and by casual I mean someone who can go for days to weeks on end without logging on) who knows what the community here is like and what the population will be like, my desire to return here is almost nil. I'm willing to bet most casual players feel the same way and I think it will just end up like uthgard 1.0
![]() Sadly, nothing the staff can do will affect any of the above factors Speeros/Aten |

There is nothing that comes close to DAoC RvR, one of the few games that actually have an in depth engame for every class(RA's). Once you are 50 and get a decent temp you can just focus on RvR if you wanted. Heck even before then you have the BG's so those who are new can get accustomed to it. The population should should explode and Origins is the proof of that. Many people silently waiting for Uthgard because It will have less problems since already before the shutdown it was great. The problem with Uthgard 1.0 was it slowly increased in population since at the time mostly everyone was playing live or WoW. This meant you had large RvR gaps between players. When Uthgard reopens there will be a massive amount of people day 1, possibly over 1.5k. This means in a year or two after relaunch the population of high RvR and those who RvR frequently will be much higher. |
|
After six month ish we will have the same 8vs8 only RvR we had on Uthgard 1.0.
![]() There are not enough players on freeshards + DAoC is no casual game, no matter how awesome relaunch will be. ![]() <<< This avatar is handmade by Inotor Wurzelbert : ) Check out the Mampfer-Threads for more. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25079 viewtopic.php?f=10&t=26934 |

This is some wishful thinking in my opinion. Like someone else pointed out, rvr is inherently casual unfriendly. Factor in a hyper competitive community that knows every nook and cranny of daoc andthat ostracises those who don't and you have a recipe for dwindling population |
|
The population will decrease over time obviously, but will probably be higher then uthgard 1.0. It's a shame but DAoC isn't casual friendly and this is an example why I advocate custom changes like charged pots. The hole idea Of uthgard 2.0 is having a classic 1.65 experience, but we can improve it while keeping what makes it challenging and fun. Reducing unnecessary time sinks is a step in the right direction. |
|
Charged pots? ![]() Custom changes need things like Battlegrounds, Bonuses to 'group' xp, SI with relevant equipment and increased spawn rates, Those things are "social" and create community. Decreasing travel time in PVE zones/porters, incentives to rvr: keep bonuses(it helped uth 1.0), rvr titles, aesthetic equipment, promoting "red is dead"
I would expect not everyone will return and with the inceased amount of population most groups will be forced to meet new players and group randoms to compete with the zergish style at launch. |
|
Its just not true. DAoC is very casual friendly. The reason is that DAoC is playable in so many many ways IF the population is high enough. Thats why im preaching the staff since years to pay a little more emphasis on keeping the population as high as possible and don't do changes that only have the purpose of being livelike and reduce the fun to play the game, make it harder/more of a timesink (no barrels, long ports, no hastener in pve zones, no reskins, no fast travel for keepdefence (Keeps have been rp whores all those years on Uthgard) and many many more things. Those changes are what will drive the people away, not some elitist 8man. If the population is high enough DAoC is a "self runner", you can zerg you can play stealthers you can raid keeps you can do PvE, you can Pug it up with people and run in 12/16 slots to fight other 8man, you can defend keeps and relics etc etc. DAoC is not casual unfriendly at all, DAoC is just newcomer unfriendly. But you dont need to get people that have never ever played DAoC, theres enough casuals out there that are rather familiar with the game just not as competetive as some. |
|
The casual groups don't really have a way to get away from Strong 8man groups. No matter where they go they risk facing a group which they have no chance in winning. They are forced to take keeps even when there is lots of action in Emain. They travel to different zones just to try and avoid them. In the end everyone wants to RvR and have fun, but we all know that's not how it always is. This is why I hope, with the relaunch, that new blood will join Uthgard, and we will have more good groups to compete with.
I don't quite understand what you mean, so I guess you mean that we need charged pots to compete? You need pots in general to compete it doesn't matter if it's charged or single. My hole reason behind charged pots was that it made life easier for everyone and allows for more time doing RvR and PVE without having to restock on potions. An 8man group doing RvR without potions is at a huge disadvantage vs one who does. Maybe the staff thought that making single pots would be more challenging RvR, but the only thing that happen was that people left RvR zones sooner then they would normally. If someone solo still wants to be fully buffed they can, but they will be forced to leave after 45mins if they want to continue being fully buffed. If a group has constant inc then they will be forced to leave as well for Power and Endurance pots. Being in one of if not best 8man guild(TI) I can tell you that we always ran with pots and soon as we needed to we left to restock. Charged pots just make everything better because instead of being forced to take a break you can decide when you want to break. Whether you want to admit it or not potions play a huge roll in DAoC, they where implemented 1.54, and where in at 1.65. Since potions play such an important roll in Everything we do, I will keep preaching why it's so important to bring some form of charged pots until people start realizing it's a good idea. Amen my brothers. |

Exactly. And I know a lot of people who literally quit Uthgard over that change alone. The question you have to ask yourself is who or what were barrels hurting that made it worth it to lose players? ![]() |

same, too many ![]() ![]() http://i.imgur.com/2mhdzsu.jpg RR5 Ownage!

It took them Two minutes to remove the ability to make barrels and yet with such a negative response to it, they just turned their heads. They should have left that at the bottom of the list of things to do or removed it.
Single, charged, and barrel pots are all the same. The only difference is how long before your done..... |
|
I hope staff read this and bring back the barrels or charged bottles/pots at least. |
|
hey, daoc old school in not easy mode party
if it is too hard for you go play wow that damn barrels are like all simplification of the game that done actual daoc on live, just ![]() a better idea for you is probly to have a npc following you in rvr and selling giving you pots when you need ? or maybe perma full buff can be better than better ? oh i know that you want ! you want a npc irl playing your char for you ? THAT COULD MAKE THE GAME VERY EASYER ![]() the simplification of the videogames gameplay is not a daoc problem, is the actual problem of generation who want to still play better with still less skill one day, whiners will kill me |
