I am not very high in AA, just trying out all the races and classes til I find what I like. So far I like the game but you pretty much have to do a sub to get the good stuff at all. Even gathering you can only do when you have labor points which you get 5 every 5 minutes but gathering seems to take 10 points per. With the patron sub you still have that but at least when your offline they recharge. All that being said the graphics are beautiful, I like the game play. They invested way more in story than most MMOs do and I love to craft and while I haven't tried it on AA from what I can tell it seems pretty detailed and involved. Darkage has an ok crafting system but you can't gather that mats yourself you have to buy them. I will certainly still come back to Uthgard when it is released... why? because before EA(Evil Aholes) took over Mythic darkage was the best MMO ever made and the good folks here did an awesome job the first time around so I am guessing it will only be better the second time.

Well I would say it's about 200x worse than DaoC's crafting. Cause at least making mp armor is just a time-sink/plat-sink and when you finally hear the ding, you're done. The crafting system in archeage is designed to squeeze as much real-life money from people as possible in the form of labor. You can get an ultimate suit of armor but be prepared to drop probably about $500. Or more.

When you craft armor you have a random chance of even getting what you want in the stats. So you're throwing away your money/labor trying to get lucky on that. Then you have to upgrade it which has a super high failure rate, costs money and labor. So there's more money/labor down the drain. Then when you upgrade it, the stats can change! So the item you just spent tons of time/money/labor on could change to something you don't even want! They limit your labor but not to worry, there's a potion to give you more labor...but it costs real life money. Also, literally every single way of making gold in the game costs labor. You can't even farm money from mobs without spending labor to open coin pouches. It's hard to get past how much of a cynical con-artist economic system this game has.

They think that because they've made the pay-to-win system more convoluted through labor, maybe people won't catch on; but the population of the game seems to be dropping steadily each week cause people aren't that dumb. I was suspicious from the beginning when I saw how great the game looked initially...if something is a free download and looks that nice, there's gotta be a catch. I seriously doubt they're gonna manage to scam enough people to make profit on that $200 million budget but they sure are trying as hard as possible.

I had fun running around ganking people even just in my crap quest gear but it doesn't take long for the fun to wear off cause it suffers from that WoW-like pvp problem where dying is just a 5 second minor inconvenience. I liked the idea of trade runs and being able to steal people's packs but because of the respawn system and the enemy-zone PvP flagging system that I talked about in my previous post, it's just annoying. Basically the best you can hope for most times if you steal someone's trade pack in enemy territory is to go drop it in the river just to be a dick... which is cool and all but I'd rather be able to try to go turn it in for a profit.

Naval combat could have been great and I love the ships. However, there's pretty much no reason to ever do it because why roam around a huge ocean when you can just camp the landing beaches with a huge zerg at the quest/trade pack turn-in island? I almost never saw anyone doing naval combat...which was what the game was so heavily marketed on. It's an ocean pirate pvp game with no pirates on the oceans.

People on other forums keep saying that DaoC wasn't perfect. The more MMO's I try, the more I think it's as close to perfection as we're ever going to see.

I totally agree with your last point, mainly because I haven't gotten to high level in AA and might not. After Darkage there has been no other MMO that I have enjoyed more and I have played most that have come out. I did like EVE but it got old fast. I have hope for Camelot unchained but I am sure that as long as this server doesn't die I will be playing on it for years and years to come.

I logged in on Genesis the other day, just to check if my house was still standing, it was.
Thought about playing some, decided against it and logged out.

First tried LotRO, Uthgard, then Live, then Uthgard again, then Genesis, then LotRO again. And none of them gives me the nostalgic feeling of when I first started playing DaoC some 13 years ago. LotRO is mainly for that Tolkien feel, but no one levels low levels anymore, because they enabled spending coins on insta lvl50.
PvP means fighting the same 10 people over and over, PvE has no raid element left (I miss ToA :(), and everyone rushes through the content.

I know this is how it will always be, because people now know what is best/fastest/easiest, but still feels kinda empty.
What happened to leveling in Muspelheim/Vanern?
Hopefully the longer Uthgard takes to launch, I have forgotten that it wont be my old DaoC experience.

I hear you about missing the feeling of when I first started playing DAoC. I had been playing EQ and jumped immediately, even had to build a new computer to run it. I have compared every MMO that came after it to DAoC and all have fallen short which is not to say I didn't have some fun playing them.

I wish I had known about Uthgard a long time ago but I just found out about it in 2013 I think. Partly because of how long it had been since I played DAoC it did feel like nostalgic and I had a great time just like I did all those years ago. Sadly we live in an instant gratification world now. Everyone now wants instant max levels or really fast xp to level and can't just enjoy the journey. It does feel empty to just play for a day and hit max level without even trying or get awesome gear just by spending a few RL dollars.

That is why I want this server back so badly, or at least for them not to give up. The awesome people working this server seem to as far as I can tell said no to pay-to-play crap or the instant gratification. I worry though that there are many on the forums that are instant gratification people. I will not be raging at people that ask for the servers release I feel the need for it myself but we have to have patience. Do we want them to put out something that isn't where they want it to be and then risk having another reboot? I understand many people lost a lot of characters but for me it has always been the journey and I am excited to once again get my toons to 50.
