Blue asked a question, and then decided to lock the thread. Do you want an answer or not?

The answer to your question on how I knew where people were with X-Zone kill spam was pretty simple.

/who victim

If they are anon, I could /tell "where?" and 99.9% of people would respond.

Now I don't see the spam, so I don't know who died or where.

No need to be so sassy. I figured the answer would be pretty obvious.

Again, something that doesn't matter when you have 3000 players on during Euro time, but is a big pain in the ass during my playtime when we only have a few solos, few smallman, and at best 2FGs running around.

I try to avoid just stating in IRC or on Twitch where I am, as I'd rather see more organic action. I've already seen people just telling others which zone they are in, so that might just be the player made solution during these hours.

According to the bug report, it sounds like the devs are talking about adding it back, but have the locations. Apparently there is some confusion on what was actually in 1.65?

Honestly, I would love it go back to the way it was where you could see all the spam in the border keep.

We all want to RvR.. its nice to know where the action is.

Adding a location would be even better. "Joe was just killed by Bob in Brefine"

More knowledge of where fights are = more fun factor. I know 1.65 is the goal, but shouldn't -fun- be the goal too? That's why we are all here.

It should be, but it isn't. The only goal is recreating 1.65. Anything else is irrelevant.

Im pretty sure any non troll who actually RvRs on this server would agree that removing the spam from outside zones was a terrible idea.

RvR has suffered greatly in just a few days, if this stays the way we will be able to get population proof on this matter as well.

Sidenote, theres so many bugs and missing features and this is what they decide to change. Sad, almost like they wanna see how much abuse the population will take before most just quit.

I really dont get the logic in trying to make the server 100% 1.65, I get it as a goal, but lets face it there are a lot of features that were changed FOR A REASON. Why undo positive features?

It is comparable with having a house party based on the 1950's but all women and african americans lose all their rights and are treated like ****** again because thats the way it was then and we are trying to throw a 1950's based party in 2017.

I love this analogy as much as I hate Trishin's vegetable/cake at the dinner table analogy

100% agree. I'll spare everyone the wall of text, statements usually get picked apart or taken out of context here anyway...... limiting kill-spam SUCKS, 1.65 or not. That is all.

1.65 Should be the framework, with features changed around that to create the most fun and enjoyable experience based on majority sentiment.

To do anything otherwise is just senseless.

There are different opinions out there about showing locations it seems.
https://www2.uthgard.net/tracker/issue/2935/

As Budikah pointed out there is a way to find the location, so there is not much sense to hide it imo. Its also not clear if that information wasn't there in 1.65 already. I think the 1.70 change added the area information like "at AMG". That is how I remember it but am not sure.

Reasoning for introducing zone information into kill messages opposed to #2935 has been given by Budikah.

As far as I remember, you got the information of who was killed, by who and where (zone). You got the information if you were in the adjacent zone and the zone itself. But nowhere else.

Like:

PlayerX was killed by PlayerY in Emain Macha.

Visible in Emain Macha and Breifine.

1.65 was just "X got killed by Y" and it only showed kills in the zone you're in and any adjacent zone(s). If you were in Breifine, you could see spam for all 4 hib frontier zones, but if you were in Emain, you could only see Emain + Breifine. So even the patched system as it stands now is not "true 1.65".

If you want to know where ppl died, send them a tell or do a /who. If a person is anon and/or doesn't respond, it's not an issue with game mechanics.

@Blue @Eviniac
its not an issue of what was it at 1.65, its an issue of why roll back this update?

Basically... Other than 'not 1.65' what positive affect or reason does not seeing RvR spam across ALL RvR zones have on the server?

Its probably just radius based on live servers.

Can't really think of anything, so I'm going to respond with one of my favorite emotes ever: daoc's /shrug.

(And i'm usually completely indifferent to fluff like emotes, but /shrug in this game really captures... something)

Looking at https://unixgeek.com/uthgard.html and from anecdotal conversations with friends and /as this change has negatively impacted the server pop.

I, personally, like the change but it seems to me that it's not a good move for the server as it REALLY is much harder to find action now. People can only run around an empty frontier so long before they give up and log out.

I would say it should be re-added even if it wasn't 100% in line with 1.65.
