So just a random question/interesting discussion I was curious thoughts about.

Warrior/hero/arms and zerker/bm/merc are pretty similar from what ive seen across the realms. Not identical, but similar. I know this can seem like putting things in a vacuum, but out of curiosity if you had to rank these how would you rank them and why?

Depends on what role you want them/what situation we talking about.

I.e.
Arms, is the best peeler (anytime snare + slam that all 3 main tanks get anyway) + plate armor = good vs melee damage.
But Warrior has highest damage output (and decent snare for peels) and the fact that they can easily train 50 shield makes them better guard-bots than arms.
But Hero has most survivabilty of all 3 due to moose/elk form (but his snare sucks/are hard to pull off compared to the other 2 and Heroes damage isnt really top notch).

the heavy tanks and light tanks were always the most balanced across the realms imo. they have their similarities, but subtle differences that make them each better in certain situations. really hard to rank them imo. all are great and fill their roles well

I agree with this.

Imo until the merc is high enough RR to get prevent flight its the weakest of the 3 but after that they're just as strong if not stronger than BMs and zerkers.

The 3 heavy tanks are all so close that its hard for me to pick, but my preference has always been Warrior = Arms > Hero. Moose mode is nice for 1v1 and can sometimes bail you out of a jam if you're being targetted by debuff nukers, but usually the Hero is one of the last targets to die in 8v8 so it doesn't impress me much. I'd much rather have the snares + dmg from the warrior/arms over the survivability of the hero.

zerk is only dw class with no shieldspecc and no thrust weapons. he also have advantages like vendo but that doesn't make him always 'better'. same goes for merc who isnt always the weakest. dirty tricks doesn't deal damage but it makes you harder to peel and give more survivability for overextension etc + chain armor.

we arent playing on pvp server. (sadly) when comparing classes like that you gotta include the environment they are working in. trust me, zerk wins.
however, this comparison serves no real purpose anyway. again....no pvp server : /

Are you talking about melee classes? There are way more melee classes available than those you all mentioned

Maybe are you talking only about melee classes who gain access to DETERMINATION ?

If so it not a melee classes post, its a DETERMINATION post

Non-Determination Melee Classes are non-factors this patch level.
Siege - Warrior
Envoy - Bard
Aegis - Blademaster
Ethical - Mentalist

are you saying lower thrust armor resists, having slam, more survivability and being harder to peeled off isnt important in the environment offtanks are working in (far in enemy backlines) ?

how many slams do you need in your AT? also having access to proper endu, cele and vendo beats the minor flexibility advantages merc has. for me at least. but im glad that theres people who dont feel that way.

oh well if you want to make a realm discussion out of it, 1x slam atleast would be nice in the at which isn't the case with zerkers. so you need a def tank for slams who will find himself something better to do from time to time and if you consider buffs from other classes like cele from healer, which is great, you might want consider some group ra's as well. i assume bof and soldiers barricade are just some 'unimportant gimmicks' for you too but you can't denie the impact of sos, unbreakable speed5, in times there is not even a proper charge. . and yes bm's have there advsantages too so i think they are pretty balanced if you consider more as just the pure dps.
