Question about Leviathan

I have a question that I think I allready have an answer to. For starters, let me say that I play a ranger as my main toon so not only do I fully understand how the "run threw" method of landing positional styles works, but I also understand how to counteract this at a fairly decent level.
Now in saying all that, over the last 2 weeks I have noticed more and more reavers landing leviathan styles on myself and others in which they are clearly in front of a player. I know there has been times that I have landed my side stun while clearly in front of a player, but its pretty rare and usually happened near a lag spike of some sort. In one fight alone I had Nubrina land 4 leviathans on me when he was clearly in front of me. I only use this as an example because he got 4 off and I had a witness watching the fight. Sleepwel seen it all and said on his screen he was also clearly in front of me. I've had similiar happen vs Maelle and Arcangel. Let me state, this is not an attack on them. I dont think they are bug abusing or doing anything on purpose, I just wanted to hear from others on this to see if I was going crazy or what. I was told by another player last night that it might be because of the people upgrading to 1.113 and that it caps people at 60 FPS which allows for alot more leeway to perform positionals. Fighting a reaver is tough enough, but when they dont even have to remotely be in position to land a VERY powerful style on you then it doesnt really give you much of a chance. I would also like to stress that this wasnt the player entering the middle of my character and yet still in front of me. What I mean is that they were not only in front of me, but there was significant space between me and the reaver. He was nowhere near what is normally used as the "run through" method should be. When using this method on my ranger the key is to time the weapons going off as you are in the middle of the toon you are attacking. Magico proved that this is livelike, but you are not supposed to be getting these off when you are not in the middle of that toon. I do see it happen from time to time Chikane, Nubrina, Birnalb have all done this to me so far, and like you said, I don't think it's them cheating in any way, on their screen for all I know maybe I am behind them.. however on my screen not only are they infront of me but with a tiny bit of distance to spare on top of that. Arcangel isn't on that list because i personally haven't seen him do it so far, makes me wonder if a Valewalker would do better out here in Emain now

i believe its server lag spikes in the form of ghosts. its impossible to detect and seems to happen randomly, when the server gets the spike i can treat a player like his previous position for aproxx 0.5 second.
i was chasing a skald the other day, i was out of melee range and only just out of asp range, and for 40 seconds i spammed asp and randomly i landed 2 in a row. and i confirmed my enemy did not lagg or do any direction change, i also put this to server lagg and creates a ghost. but thats just first thoughts, could be something else http://i.imgur.com/2mhdzsu.jpg RR5 Ownage!

Positional style system is totally broken, you can make positional style from crazy direction here ^^
(Dunno if on live is the same..) Ah, of course lag can help this mechanic, but tecnically you should not base your gameplay on "occasional lag", till is occasional ![]() There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

If ur chars overlap u can land any style any time and espacially back styles.
Welcome to Daoc/Uthgard ![]() They just run into u and press levi. moonwalking is quiet efficient against it ![]() Last edited by pweet on Apr 25, 2013 01:06, edited 1 time in total.

There was no overlap. For the whole fight the ones i watched they were facing and 2 or 3 units apart when the levi hit. I understand the mechanics behind straffing for positionals, but it surprised me that they landed. I will fraps the next 2 or 3 nights to see if i can grab a video of it happening. Not sure if it is livelike or if the lag is just that bad.

may i quote a reaver

That would be a reasonable answer if the people in question were up on my junk (at the center of me) but as stated earlier they are some units infront of their targets when the back styles are landing, NOT IN THE CENTER, to clarify ![]() |

In the center for them, not for you, it's different.. your client have a different position than your enemy, due to lag issues.. There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

Aye Pweet, that is why I stated VERY clearly in my original post that this is not the walk threw method where when in the center of an opponent you are landing a positional. This is multiple times in which a player was in front of me and there was space between me and the opponent. He was not even touching me in my screen or on Sleepwels screen. I'm sure that some of them could have been lag, as I have been known to do the same on my ranger on occasion, but this isnt a rare occasion anymore. I've seen it almost every night on multiple occasions. Something has made it so you can land positionals with even greater ease than before, or at least leviathan.
Once again, THIS CHARACTER WAS NOT INSIDE OR EVEN TOUCHING MY TOON. HE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND ON 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLES COMPUTERS THERE WAS SPACE BETWEEN US. Sorry for the caps, but I thought I was pretty clear on this in my original post and then I seen pweets reply... ![]() |

I understand this as well, as was referenced in a previous post in which Seyha was side stunned by me on my ranger while i was in front of him. He had a screen shot and asked why that happened. It was pretty much determined that it was lag that caused it. Do you know how many times I've had that happen on my ranger? Maybe 10 or 20 at the most in over a 3 year period. This happened 4 times in a single fight with other people watching. If this was lag then I could see it happening once, twice, hell maybe even 3 times over the course of an entire night. This happened 4 times in a single fight and is a daily occurance now when before it almost never, if ever, happened. Now, to explain the lag issue a lil more closely, another player said that on the later client versions they hard cap you to 60 frames per second, whereas on the older versions you could get much higher frames per second. He claimed that this cap in FPS is what is causing this to happen. My 2 questions are: 1. Is the FPS capped in later client versions and if so could it cause this. 2. Is anyone else noticing this. (thanks Razor for making me feel a lil less crazy) Last edited by RonELuvv on Apr 25, 2013 01:48, edited 1 time in total.

Also, so you mean to tell me even though I have been playing here for 3+ years and have been fighting reavers for all of that time that just now I picked the moment to bring this up? In other words, if everything pweet and you are saying was true then why has this only been happening in the last couple of weeks? Might I add that a couple of weeks ago many people were told in game they had to upgrade clients to 1.113. Prior to this getting levi'd in the face might happen to me a couple times a month, not a couple times a night or even a few times in one fight... |

No you aren't crazy and I'm not sure specifically what causes it, but I sure didn't see as many people getting leviathan off in my face at a distance before the client transitioning. Sure hope this is given a serious look over, this is a very powerful style to be just getting it off whenever you please because it's impossible for the other person to know if the reaver is anywhere but where his screen says he is. If he's infront of me on my screen and behind me on his, and nobody is lagging, there's a problem somewhere

Right. The part that surprised me the most is that when i see the run through method , the leviathan lands pretty soon after the reaver has ran through and turned. In these cases, it may be 3 seconds after the reaver has made a move either through or to Zack ... 3 units away and facing Zack... and the levi lands... thats 3-5 seconds of lag. I'm not saying it cant happen. I just notice it happens a lot more since the client upgrade to me also. I thought of rolling back my client to 1.109 to see if that makes a difference.

Were you "Sticking" your opponent? Standing still and facing your target? Did your opponent constantly walk back n' forth, like a push n' pull of a shoreline wave? Was your opponent "Dancing" ? (Are you keyboard turning?)
