Question about pets and bug abuse

So last night I was at AMG fighting when Nerzal showed up. He said that it was potentially bug abuse by putting my pet in the wall and hiding him because then people couldnt target him to kill it. I know that the GM's are working on the pathing issue on this to not allow it, but it was like this on live for awhile as well until they fixxed the pathing issue. Nerzal said he was waiting to hear from other GM's on whether or not this counted as bug abuse. He told me not to do it again until he heard back from another GM on this issue. So, now I'm asking all the GM's, is that bug abuse or not?
I'm not using it to attack people with the pet, i'm only using it to hide the pet which I can do at other places as well, but lets say I put my pet in the corner of AMG or in the box up top, then call the pet when I get in a fight. Is it not also bug abuse to have the pet run threw that same wall and directly to me which they do automatically? This is all around the same pathing issue. If this is truly bug abuse then I would say a forum post should be put out warning ALL pet classes about this since I see people use this every single night I'm on. |

as long as ani can put the mush on places without los it should be ok to send ur pet in a wall without los ^^

Potential is the word to look at.
Hiding a pet out of LoS of the person being attacked is only really considered abuse if you can draw an advantage from it. This being an animist hiding shrooms somewhere (extremely common, never punished, only warned if someone report and a gm is there right at the moment to check it out), or a minstrel/mentalist hiding a buffer/healer out of LoS. However to hide a pure melee pet I honestly can not see the harm in (you can do it on live too). For the pet to be of any assistance to you (hunter pet, so even that assistance is laughable...) he have to come out of his hiding place, and will be attackable by the person he is assisting on. If you want to see obvious bug abuse, look at what happens at 2:04 ![]() |

I agree with both of you, but I would really like a comment from a GM on this. I was basically told not to do it again because it "could" be bug abuse. If it is bug abuse then fine, I won't do it again, but if its not bug abuse then I would like to continue doing it.
BTW, what happened at 2:04? I looked and didnt see anything that stood out at me, other then I had to watch myself die. |

You double hit it looks like but it seems accidental bug abuse since he was the one running through you.
![]() [3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt [3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck

Intentionally parking your pet inside something that it normally would path around to gain an advantage would be considered abuse, yes.

good to know abydos, this mean if i see mush on a wall next time (without los of caster and so on), as example, i can make a screen and u will punish that abuse ?

also it happened, when you have your pet in box above, with you standing outside the window and getting hit by arrow your pet defends you standing on emain ground, but its not attackeable from there, cause it has its origin above in amg box > bug
|

So i am clear. Is it bug abuse to park your shrooms ( i.e. pet) in the box at amg and hit someone with no (zero) LOS? I was hit and killed directly under the box ... not off to the side,... not in view of any window at all... directly under the box |
|
AFAIK Pet LOS is determined by player. My statement was specifically for being *INSIDE* the wall, not in a valid room
|
|
Ok , so i should create my own bug report, and in that report explain how i was hit under the box (directly under) by shrooms that were inside the box

Dully noted then that from now on putting a pet inside a wall or anyplace that hides it is considered bug abuse. I understand that this is due to a pathing issue, but as I pointed out above and as Sumosan also pointed out, ANY time a pet goes threw a wall to come to its owner it is also abusing the same bug, but I understand the difference. The pet running threw a wall to get to the owner is still attackable when its on the other side of the wall.
I also realise that the mushrooms in the box are not related to this same topic, but I agree with Mee that it is EXTREMELY unfair that they can park shrooms in the box, have ZERO LOS on a target, and still hit people. Not to mention that the 2nd LOS check is also messed up. If I walk in the box and the pets hit me, once I move out of line of sight they should quit attacking but they dont. Nerzal has witnessed the bahaviour of the shrooms attacking w/out LOS. |

if u didnt ve any advantage of hiding it, why would u do it? =)

Who said it didnt provide an advantage? I can tell you exactly why I did it and what advantage it provided, allthough I honestly never thought of it as bug abuse. As I said before, this was perfectly acceptable practice on live before they fixxed the pathing issue so necro's couldnt abuse it. There is a 1:30 sec recast timer on the hunter pet. If I call mine out and leave it out in the open then a person can come along and kill it at will. If I place it in the wall then I can decide when to call it to me and help out, and if it gets mezzed/rooted etc then I can release it and call a new one out. There is your advantage, but I will not be doing that anymore as this is now apparently bug abuse.
What I was not happy about was being told not to do it again because it "might" be bug abuse. Either it is or it isnt bug abuse and if it is then I was simply recommending the GM's tell people this so they know that they are bug abusing. Instead I was told not to do it again because it "might" have been bug abuse. Then I was told to pass the information along to my fellow hunters. If this is bug abuse then say it is, and if it is then announce it on the forums and in the game. Maybe i'm now expected to be the squire for the GM's heralding all the changes and rules for others. you gain an advantage with hiding ur pet, i cant see how that should not be bug abuse. and wether or not this was tolerated noone knows or anyone can tell anything-^
and u didnt mention u can buff it s/c for more dmg, which is not possible if u call it infight. just hide it in the box, problem solved =) |
