Suggestion to Devs: Zerg-Day

Hi fellow players and staff,
I have a suggestion and it has to do with zerg. But hear me out first, before you lighten the torches and sharpen the pitch forks.. Uthgard's RvR is very polarized right now. You have stealth gangbang at AMG and small number of 8vs8 die-hards but very little in between. I think it is a safe bet that a large percentage of the players at any given night do not engage in end-game RvR despite having one or several lvl 50 toons. Why is that? Many factors contribute to this, I'm sure. But one is that there is no room for the average casual player in the FZ right now, because we don't have the after-work Zerging that live servers had. Some players are happy about that, many others however are not (if numbers of RvR-active vs RvR-inactive players are any indication). My suggestion: The Uthgard staff should host a weekly RvR event. One possible scenario: - Warriors of each realm that want to participate are teleported into a designated zone (either FZ or a battle ground) and take turns in defending a keep (e.g. 20mins). The realm winning the most rounds gets a prize (to be decided by Devs, such as 20k RP for each participant or access to a special BP merchant for 5mins). To keep the momentum up, you'd need to have special event teleporters set up that allow fallen fighters to get back into the action in a reasonably short amount of time. But there are probably other things we could come up with. Most importantly, it should be something that mobilizes as many people as possible. So whatever the layout, it should be something that is only available during this event (like the afore mentioned special merchant or whatever), so that it gives people additional incentive to take part and win (maybe a prize for second and third place, just so the other realms get at least something for showing up). At the same time, the event should be something reasonably regular and in a consistent format - the latter to make sure that dev-time required for hosting it is kept to a minimum after the first time. Anyway, /discuss Last edited by Lasastard on Apr 09, 2011 15:05, edited 1 time in total.

better make more relic raids it's a kind of zerg but much more interesting

The thing with relic raids is that it rarely happens (lack of incentive - and no, 2% more XP is NOT motiviation enough to go through all the trouble...) and that it is quite random and really is a gamble with respect to participation. The event suggested by me would be something that people could anticipate and would ensure that enough show up to make it fun.

I think it's a very nice idea. As you can see every Sunday in Hibernia there are alot of people joining the Weekly Dragon Raid. Most of them want drops, but you also get a lot of input that they do it since it's fun to raid something with a zerg =)

the GMs should just port every player from every realm to a relic keep at 7pm GMT every sunday. you must form groups in the heat of battle, last realm standing wins

Relic raiding is best suited for being a Zerg event. Players should be more aware of the influence relics have on anything with their strength/magic bonuses. But unfortunately this comes down to the point that X-realming exists on Uthgard and realm pride is something which most of the players dont know. So players see it easier to log into the realm which has the relics instead getting it back. This is the price for free accounts.
GM's dont need to "organize" zerg events. Zergs organize themself if a relic raid is made. It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

I don't wanne be mean, but actually the RvR active guildes like MB (Herald Rank#1) and some others give a [bunny and flowers] about relicts and this is actually not because of wrong realm pirde it's more because they can bash their opponents also without relict power. Another thing is, also if it's maybe just a feeling, when midgard got an relict the amount of inc is less than without having a relict, so most RvR active are not liked to have/raid the relic if Emain isn't empty. A started relic Raid in midgard is mostly only to provokate inc because there is no inc in the frontiers.... Actually i have no figures to give that feeling a prove, but at the last event on x-mas where the GMs had to remind the players very often that this event is not about having a big zerg war, there was funny RvR in a big Zerg on a small area. Indeed, that was not the aim of the event but it was a lot of fun. |

With reworked relic system the relics will be reset and propably the amount of bonus they give changed to live like. We will see whether some guilds can ignore relics.

Even on live the bonus from relics was not what motivated people to do such raids, I am guessing. It was more a consequence of zergs already being out and a different player mentality. You will not, no, you cannot recapture times long gone. And that is a different can of worms that warrants its own topic. But what I suggest would serve to goals.
1) Get more players into RvR and just have fun with it 2) Increase Staff-Player interaction and show players that there are cool things than can be done with the players for the players This hands-off approach is not working, obviously. And referring to miracle patches and soon-to-be released updates is not really helping. Also, what I suggest does not at all preclude any benefits a new relic system may have and these two things could happily co-exist and, together, create a more lively, healthy RvR atmosphere. ![]() |

The server has to run on itself without required Staff/Player interaction. The features the server offers should offer a interesting gameplay. I don't see the need for the staff to have to interact with players. When that is the case, then the concepts are not grown enough.
