Do us all a fover and keep your piehole shut if you don't have a clue what you're talking about. I played on live when daoc started and I know whats bearable. I also played during SI. Even there I needed 3 weeks to get my char up to 50 with SC and stuff. First Char on classic to 50 with an epic armor (there was no SC back then) took mit 50 days played. Before you disucc the difficulty of leveling with me get some live server expirience. I'am sick of all the whining and better knowing. If it doesnt suit you, you know where the exit is. Uthgard is getting harder and there is no way stopping it. |

Getting harder? For me is hard enough already...

Yeah, thats the generation of post-NF players who only got to know the easy
way of DAoC ^^ My very first char needed around the same amount as Prestos char and I'm pretty sure that if he is talking about a monster-work-around he will not only make monsters harder, but will implement also the weaknesses of monsters. The only interesting question I still have got is group-exp bonus. As far as I can remember you leveled faster in groups, but also received some exp-boni. Thats a thing I will test on live-servers in the upcoming week. With regards Sethor Characters:

i dont know what you have done wrong presto, but my first char (armsman) took me about 18 days /played (release). my second (pala) took me about 16 days /played ,6 month after release. and finally my shadowblade (1 year after release) took me about 11 days /played time
![]() so there is no easy mode in here, only the group bonus is not live like. u do better with small grps. |
|
second thing, did you have 40% exp boonus on live then like we have in emain? i guess no ...

I still think daoc is more RvR/PvP then PvE, no matter what live is like, and uthgard is not live, right?
|
|
my first char (scout) took me 24 days /played...but of these 24 ive been like 10+ days in yggdra and uppland hunting lil kobolds ^^
2nd char 5 days for lvl 50 + 2 friends pushed to lvl 50 + tailor 900 and some farming (necromancer ^^) |

I think that its not entirely fair to compare the pve experience to what we had when the game first launched. Back then, we didn't know why high quality player armor was better; we thought look, that junk doesn't even have stats! My twilight armor does! Now we know how much less damage we take, how much more we do with high quality weapons, etc. Part of why its easier to level now is because we know and understand more. We didn't know what monsters to fight, we just looked for something that seemed to be a good level, and started killing them. We died alot more then because we didn't know our limitations as much.
All of these things took valuable time back in the old days, that we don't have to spend now. We can kill faster and safer because we know more. I'm not trying to say things should be harder or easier, just saying that time investment shouldn't be the only thing that's looked at. Now if you wanted to really make Uthgard harder (and better imo) would be to remove /assist and see who can really play and who is only as good as their /assist macro and anytime style spamming skills. Just want to make it clear. My first char that took around 50days played until
he reached level 50 was a Shadowblade. So, to exactly compare the situation now and then: -> As a rogue no one wanted to party with you due to low defense meaning you drain the mana out of healers -> Back in the old days you ran around with grey to blue con equipment and sometimes after a quest or OTD you had one yellow item -> You had absolutely no idea how to exp properly. I remember Malmohus very well, when around 50-100players zerged down the Drakulv-spot! It's somehow what Aerewyn told. You had crappy equipment and absolutely no knowledge on how to exp fast. The knowledge came around the time when ShroudedIsles expansion was released and reached the maximum wide-spread wisdom on powerleveling shortly before ToA was released. If you compare these facts to the situation on Uthgard you can only say that the currently needed time to lvl50 is ok, but still too long. This has something to do with the missing group-cap-exp which usually is raised when you group. However, I must agree to Presto that some of the monsters are just to weak. Have you ever mentioned that the growth in dmg-output of NPCs is raised almost every 10levels by a slight amount? You can easily engage 2 orange monsters without being killed. On live servers you got a hard time to even beat an orange con monster. The only way to raise the difficulty is to give monsters some special abilities which they do not spam, but use from time to time. The list of monster-abilities goes from styles to simple DD nukes up to buff-heal type monsters which buff and heal their allied monsters. Unluckily this isn't that easy to implement. I'm quite new to uthgard, on live I was an oldschool albplayer and indeed me very first char (inf) took me ages to get to 50..(no one wanted to group an inf at pygmys tanglers in those days..ggrr).
I started an alb sorc again..cause that was my main rvr char on live. But when I noticed people complaining about hibs and braemar was kinda hibless. I stopped playing alb and am now a fullpool Hibernian. My main hibernian toon is atm a lvl 30 eldricht. Exping sucks indeed..but I get to know many people that way..cause I hate solo leveling, I group all the time. Braemar is very amusing, but a lvl 50 char is imo much more amusing..cause it has more abilities and it can fullfill it's highest potential. On such a small server it is important to have a lot of people on the same place....emain for instance and not BG....cause why should I level me char if BG is the endgame. Emain is the best option..cause the chars are at their best then and that can make some of the best rvr. Braemar is fun because it's easy...but in my experience the most rewarding experiences do not come easy. I do not want to enforce anybody to come to emain. But I make an appeal on reason and common sense to try and make emain reach it's full potential. Teach newbies in rvr, group people you don't know very well and learn them the tricks of the trade. In rvr more is always better, cause you can pick your fights more easily then. Is there a zerg?...make your own..or get out of the zergy way and pick some fight on the edge. (like in braemar..if there is a FG albs in CK and your the only hib...hide behind trees and such and attack loners in the woods around CK.) well enough ramble, I go and lvl me toon to 50..and I hope to see my friends from my own lvl there and you oldtimers who already have 50 chars in emain. So we can all have a jolly good time:P |

wow, wish i could get a char 50 on uthgard in 3 weeks.. making uthgard harder? wow you guys need to take some medicin, its hard already I agree that we need to keep it tough to get to 50 on uthgard but making it harder will just make 2/3 of new players quit before they get lvl 10 its hard already (true, i see people lvl fast but i have yet to get a char 50 on uthgard and seeing it made harder to lvl would not get me to emain) average 1-50 should imo be 4 weeks, some should take longer (healers, assasins etc) and some should be faster (strong solo classes) all of this should ofcouse be 1-50 lvling only, no BG, Farming etc but dont make it harder to lvl fix grp xp, mob dmg (dmg increase comes in jumps atm, yellow can at lvl x be 5-10 and then at lvl x+1 it can be 10-15 or more, this needs a fix for a more smooth lvling experience, killing blues for 3 lvls because the next lvl mob is to hard hitting is a pain) and then i think we would have a good lvling expericence.. + (more quests would be nice to) 2x, 3x etc xp should not be seen on uthgard just my 2 cp edit: I GOT live experience I played since a bit before US SI and up until patch 1.89 so dont tell me I dont know anything about lvling and that I need to stop whining, imo atm its great, but dont make it freaking harder. |

if u have good tema for leveling its easy .. but having such team is pain

That's true, most people either guild only or real friends. And some ask which spec your going. Say wrong spec they say no thank you. Really a drag when that happens.
Not every class can xp well. And at least on Hibernia side it's quite hard to get a group . Dunno bout you but I enjoy the experience more when you level as a team not just solo forever. Perhaps more quests where team effort is required would make it more interesting. I remember live those task dungeons were good for items and experience. And more people would group for bonus and lets face it then fun. Not saying make exp easy, cause the PL'ing on live was just pathetic but to make it more fun would stop people just going up to brae maximum. Just an idea. ![]() |
