What about keeping the items (name/skin) but just knocking the stats down so they're at least somewhat balanced?
It'd stay a special item with the nostalgia factor plus it wouldn't be horribly broken anymore.
I don't think there'd be many people willing to part with event items like that voluntarily, I wouldn't and mine doesn't even have uber h4x0r stats.
