So Ceamma, what you are suggesting is that you would have to go and take a keep defense task. Then if and when another realms group took a keep take task the NPC would tell the defenders where a "possible attack" may be incoming from the people who got the keep take task. I think it could work, but it still seems like there would have to be a very out of the box way of doing this.

Not saying its a bad idea, just saying that its not something that could be implemented over night.

What about either little rewards for taking a keep and holding it for 30 (60) Minutes for the attackers or also a reward for retake this keep within 30 (60) Minutes (or when in time prevent the keep-take)?

Bledmer Faste: Claimed by Midgard Guild XYZ.

Attacked by a Group of Albs

1.) Albs successfull take and hold keep - rewarded after 30 (60) Minutes: Value X
2.) as above - keep succesfull defended: Value 1,5 X
3.) Mids prevent keep-take or retake it within 30 (60) Minutes: Value 1,5 X
4.) (Formerly) Claiming Mid-Guild XYZ prevents keep take or retakes it within 30 (60) Minutes: Value 2 X

Yes, thats custom... but maybe this will people focus for raiding/deffing? And the reward should be attracting without giving benefits (Gold? Seals? Uthalis ^^?)

Or maybe you use this thought an idea for an event (from time to time) - once a month for EU and for US primetime each.

Play and have fun...

I'd bet the guy who designed the Ranger read too much Salvatore, which is why the class is the special snow flake of DAoC archers.

The main problem is why ppl cant compete in RvR is, due to lack of RA skills they need. It is as important as your class skills, but if just one of 8 has a ****** RA skill you can loose just due to this. And in a PuG u can be sure that at least 1-2 dont get crucial RAs, since they think they dont need it due to whatever.
It s not that daoc is a hard game to play, the hardest part is finding 8 players with correct skills and some basic knowlege about RvR.
How many ppl do u see using DD charges at inc, almost none. Easiest thing in the world, but ppl just dont do it and wipe because of it.

Thats why you need another measure to notice that a keep is under siege and a keep take is going on. There could be special message when the door is harmed a certain amount.

Like we do with the Relic Keep doors? Now, I am not a programmer, not even close, and my memory fails at times, but on live when I played Classics, I remember getting a bonus for defending a tower or keep owned by your Guild. I don't remember how long it had to be "not hit" before you got the bonus, is something like this possible? And yes, I know it was NF, not OF like here (which I prefer anyway).

Its not that difficult to give bonuses to defenders of an attacked keep.

Here's an honest question: why should we care about defending keeps at all?

Thats a complete different topic which Zarkor tries to address too. It depends how the keeps are bound into tactical options.

Because it might draw out folks to RvR who usually don't. Defending is really much easier than open field RvR, requires less skill, so some folks who may be a bit shy of open field RvR might come out. Kill the enemy who attacks your keep, get a bit of learning in then maybe they would venture out there more?

A bit like they know it from BG's.

I'm kind of skeptical of this. Defending OF keeps is a pain in the butt due to numerous LOS issues, the absence of burning oil (so Mr. Tank has something to contribute besides throwing axes from the wall), and the bad design of the keeps in general. I think most players avoid keep defense because it isn't fun. Most keep "sieges" are really just 8v8s outside the wall or in the courtyard.
