i thin until big gamebreaking custom stuff is not implemented/stay custom (old ras, no buffbots allowed, etc), we should accept we play on a custom server with a goal of beeing as livelike as possible giving the circumstances. so i dont mind custom changes at all as long as they are benefiting the server and not beeing implemented purly because "its livelike" (envenom on non infis for example).

i dont mind custom changes as long as they are benefical to the server/ overall players. so i dont mind stuff like tinders or barrels, or wyvern horseroutes back then (didnt hurt anyone, made life easier for everyone) . hell i could even see buffbot npcs on every keep to avoid buffbot problematics / help players without perfect equipment. Custom changes are fine with me as long as they dont break game balance.

edit : Tajendi is another great example. totaly custom, the best pve map / modification of daoc ever. Mythic could just buy the ting, change the drops to livelike standarts and sell it as another addon.
Custom stuff like that should be enbraced by Uthgard Staff, not trying to remove it.

Deleted my original post. Not worth the drama.

Thanks for sharing your opinions on the subject.

Really... they don't bother me because I can adapt one way or the other, and have. Watching you all argue with Zack just proves to me that you all just can't stand seeing someone having fun or doing well not playing the way you think they should. I don't think it has anything to do with balance or live-like.

Please don't shift the focus from the topic to a specific user, threads do not exist to allow users to fight each others.
If you think that someone else opinion is made for deceiving the audience, or that the whole thread is pointless or an hoax, write about it and then leave it.
If the confrontation keep on going in this way, thread will be closed.

You're right, better to solve any personal vendettas on the battlefield, it's more satisfying anyway :!:

Fix the f**king battlegrounds. OF is a joke. Either getting gang raped by grouped stealthers or steamrolled by a high rr group with all the tools. The casual or low rr player has no fun on this server since BGs are messed up. Make them livelike

you mean livelike to our patch limit? So the last BG ends at 44 (or was it even 39 at 1.69?), have no fear they are working on :D

I'll try to get my two cents in before the poopstorm hits the fan. I'll try to minimize the wall (doubt it'll work).

Uthgard aims to be livelike but it'll never be 100% live simply because it lacks the population.
Because of that fact we're plagued with plenty of issues like empty RvR zones and inflation.
For the sake of an enjoyable experience some custom changes are necessary.
Money sinks that don't impact gameplay like the shoulderpads are a great way to keep the money levels low.
Any way to get people into RvR faster is amazing, be it shorter teleporter timers, battlegrounds or horses, just get those soldiers on the field.

Besides that there's the stuff like no buffbotting or poisoning which seems only fair to me.
I don't even want to imagine the RvR scene where the people that can be bothered enough to buffbot/poison dominate the scene. You'd just end up leaving the low RR sods to be crushed and demoralized instead of getting them into the RvR loop.

But then there's the Tajendi items which I wasn't too happy about when I found out.
They're incredibly powerful custom content. I wouldn't mind as much if they had reasonable stats.

IMHO keep the cosmetic money sinks as long as they're reasonable and balance the custom mobility based on server population.
Don't want Emain to turn into Star Wars nor do we want people teleporting back into your low hp face right after you wiped the floor with them.

TL;DR
There are custom changes that are an enormous boost to the server. There are some who aren't that helpful at all.
Wanting to get rid of every single custom change just for the sake of being 100% livelike is just blind purist hatred.
As a server we'll just have to find a balance between live and custom.

I don't see how fixing the BGs would change anything. People would just reroll earlier.
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt
[3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

There are also "tournament" items with 100+ utility out there. Think cloak with 5(!) X 11% resists.

I have one of those tournament cloaks on my dusty old infiltrator.
Think I got second place (maybe third?). 4x 7% resists. Think first place cloaks were 9% if I remember correctly. (If one of the old dogs can correct me, please do.)
That's 40 spellcraft points on a cloak, which is a bit high (comparing this to Cloak of Earth here).
Still not as high as some Taj items, taking a quick look at the drop list, and those can be farmed.

Even though I'm the proud owner of an old event item, custom items are really dodgy for me.
I'm torn between my nostalgia and my wariness for custom items on this one.
Seeing that cloak just takes me back to that tournament, wearing my oversized 'mushroom' leather hat, not even level 50, getting all the lucky kills on the archer classes. Ahh.. :')
