X-Zone Kill Spam - How did you know where people were?

I remember seeing Yggdra spam while inside Raumarik. I dont ever remember seeing spam from Emain, Savauge, etc when in Mid frontier though.

Or just do what I suggested, and add a "feature" to this "bug", so people don't even have to ask. They can just take their group and go hunting without ever notifying or inquiring about anything! ![]() Severian, RR5 Skald

You guys seem to have forgotten the other way to find a fight.
If the zone is empty, pull some guards (especially from a keep owned by a large guild) and wait a few minutes. Someone will be along. |
|
It works depending on the guild and who is online at the time. We have a fairly large Alb guild and sometimes we simply don't have people on to defend, or we are busy elsewhere and have to let it go. Other times we come out with 4FG+ coming to cause chaos. /who victim /as callouts system killspam messages those are the main ways I found the action, two of those just went poof with this change, unless i'm already in the zone of course. |

My guild certainly hasn't forgotten this at all. We've been doing it every night in Alb lands for the past week. Has worked every night to varying degrees, except for last night. Ghost town in alb. Still doesn't negate the "bug" that was "fixed" to the detriment of frontier action. Severian, RR5 Skald

to be fair
NA Primetime - action has been consolidated only into emain |

Same, I remember seeing kill spams in current zone and adjacent zones. Three months of intense Uthgard playing, and I'm still very confused by the absence of range limit on kill logs actually. I don't remember when that appeared in official servers, and am not saying it didn't, but I know it gets me confused and spams so much that I don't actually read it much now. I, as a soloer, don't see many advantages in it. Of course it can help finding a guy you know would not be in a FG, but then most of the time you would only be interested in areas near you (i.e., current and adjacent), since you don't try to get where most the action is when you are solo. If you already are in that zone, you don't need kill logs to notice it (plus you will not survive long anyway). On the other hand, there are costs from the soloer's point of view if his little actions can be seen in the logs by everyone everywhere, since more people will ask where he is and try to catch him, even if not nearby at the moment. Plus logs really easily reveal if the killer was solo, smallman or grouped in a FG. I have no opinion about giving the location in the logs, but from a personal perspective, I would pefer killspam to only show up in current and adjacent zones. However, I do understand the game and the server are not specifically made for solo and smallman, and even if they were, it would still not be the vast majority of people. I won't mind this much if the majority thinks otherwise about killspams and gets satisfaction. [Mid] Koubiak, Krafilnaavith

It actually makes me wonder why Uthgards are focusing on making the RVR situation worse instead of fixing things that would actually improve the server situation such as fixing quests and other things that are missing.
First they removed the DF 15 minute timer which spawned alot of RVR action in DF because people had a chance to get in before it closed. Now they remove kill spam which helped people find out where the already limited action is currently taking place. Excuse my bluntness but it seems like Uthgard staff are kinda stupid considering how they fail to see how these tiny bugs actually help the server pvp situation. The devs seem to suffer from tunnel vision, seeing only the 1.65 target and nothing else despite numerous complaints and posts about the benefits. |
|
The devs refuse to make the server better if it's not 1.65.
That right there is the main reason for a declining population. <Bushido>

Yea, like I said, as long as they have 600-800 players logged in at Euro Primetime, nothing will ever change. NA population is hanging by a thread, they could care less, and it's obvious. |

This sums it up so well. The 15 minute timer for DF made the transition very exciting. Now DF just exchanges and eventually the zerg builds up and rushes the other side. The xrealm kill spam opened up roaming to all 3 realms, because you could gauge where the action was. Guess where our group has been roaming the past week since the change because we have spent too many dead runs in mid/alb? Emain. Over and over. Odins used to be just as popular as emain, now it is just emain, night after night. |
|
I say we switch it up just for variety. One night Odin's, next night Hadrian's, next night Emain etc....
I'm also a big propenent of having deisgnated areas if possible, like "oh your group just all hit 50 and got Temped?" Ok you go to Hadrians to fight similar groups if you don't want to fight the RR 6 Albs/Mids/Hibs etc.... But all of this is moot, all of our ideas mean nothing, if the GM's do not make any changes to stimulate RVR. Instant stimulation would be giving 400 RPS for Keep takes, RPS for Guard tasks, RVR is just not the same without the "realm zergs". I know we joke about zergs, but imo they are crucial to what DAoC RvR is all about, and Uthgard has no zerg action unless it's planned or scheduled. |
|
So the game, gameplay and mechanic is the same for EU and NA. dont blame the devs if NA dont like daoc enough or want insta 50. |

From a personal (and selfish) point of view, this is actually good news. Emain drawing more attention from full groups means better life for smaller groups, and does not necessarily mean that other areas are of no interest anymore for FGs. Now I can roam around alone in Odin's while this could not even be remotely considered over the past few weeks. I still encounter FGs quite often there, meaning the area is not dead inactive for FGs, but at least now there are reasons to try going there alone/in smallman. I don't think this is particularly bad news for RVR diversity and everyone's experience overall. However, I do understand how what may be an improvement for my playstyle can be seen as a regression from another perspective. [Mid] Koubiak, Krafilnaavith

The last 3 hours have been pretty good evidence for me that at least Mids don't want to improve their ability to find fights. I spent that time running around RvR zones with a public, named /cg going, spamming /as and /b about it, so that people could join and provide/read intel about where enemies were. In those 3 hours, I was never able to get more than 10 people to join, despite the fact that there were always multiple groups in the zones where I broadcasted that it was open. I even sent tells to numerous Mids in Odin's, Emain, and Hadrian's and very very few joined the /cg.
The only reason losing x-realm spam makes it harder to find fights is because people aren't using the tools available to them to find fights. I personally don't want x-realm spam, in part because I think being able to organize your realm is part of how realms compete in DAoC, but the need to do so disappears when automated systems make active organization unnecessary (e.g. not just x-realm spam, but NF features like crosses on your maps). I would suggest that people start using /cg's to communicate where fights are happening, where enemies are, etc. I don't know what the issue was today, maybe 8-man groups are too l33t for intel or something, but this was a regular activity in 2003 that needs to come back. |
